Brazilian tour groups??

You haven't lived until you are on your honeymoon on a small cruise ship that was sold to us as very romantic and for couples. Of the 800 people on board, 500 were Brazilian teenagers. The other 300 of us were not happy. It took me 8 years to get my wife to go on a cruise again.

Were were there June 20-July 4 and saw them. Red, green, yellow, and blue shirts were swarming the parks! It didn't matter which park as each park we hopped to had them. While the chanting can get annoying they aren't too bad, but the clogging of walkways did me in. That is where I have found them to be rude, but that's just my opinion.

We were also there late June (June 23-July 3). They were numerous, but not rude. The only time I was "inconvenienced" was when we went to ride dinosaur standby (the wait time was 20 minutes), and about 150 red shirts got in FP line. Needless to say, we got out of line!

My wife and I had the same thing happen but the boat was full of cabinet makers. They closed the pool 2 times for a party for them only!!! Closed all sorts of stuff for them only during the cruise. It was like the other 200 people on the boat where not even there.

That was our first and last Carnival cruise. We have been on at least 15 cruises since then but never Carnival.

Ours was with NCL, and we have never been on one of their ships after that.

Last time we went down to WDW in July, our flight from JFK in NY was almost all a tour group, just a few families. My son was sitting with two of the girls. They were a group from Argentina, all were 15, and they told us a lot of them go at that age. Their school holidays were July and January. A few of them spoke English, most did not. The few who did seemed to act as translators. The chaperones were all in their early 20's.

We were just there June 24- July2. We saw tour groups in each park, but not that many. The end of July when we normally go is a lot worse. They were much better chaperones in the parks this year. At least the groups we saw. All were actually being led by adults and they were actually telling them what to do.

We have gone the past 4 summers in July switching from the 2nd, 3rd and last week. Each time the parks were full of flags and brightly colored shirts.

We were at WDW June 3-18. We did see South American tour groups, BUT they were adults, not teenagers. And they didn't cause any problems. I have always read that the teens are there in July.

DS did choose to get in the FP line for Space Mtn. behind a HUGE group of kids, but they appeared to be American kids on some kind of end-of-school field trip. I told him it would take a long time to get through the line, but he went anyway. And it DID take a long time! :rotfl2:

These were from last July (16-23).... as other PP mentioned, I didn't find any groups to be really obnoxious-there were just LARGE groups everywhere and we'd get to a park before rope drop, but there were already hundreds and hundreds of kids/teens w/ matching shirts that beat us there :rotfl: :rotfl:

We were there the same time last year. Too funny about rushing to rope drop they always beat us as well.

is it really as bad as it sounds?

YES! they are loud, they are many!! they are teens away from their parents... do the math...

I AM brazilian and when I go to WDW with my family I run as far as possible from them.

As mentioned before, their maners improved a lot in the past years. I don´t know if it because of fast pass or they have been advised not to cut lines anymore... It was AWFUL ten years ago...

which hotels (resorts) should we avoid? we were planning to visit WDW in December, possibly the first week of December 2012 to see all the Christmas decorations
We hope to book our stay at the Coronado Springs Resort or Port Orleans Riverside.

You should be safe at these hotels. Usually they go for moderates ones. All Star Music (followed close by others all star seem to have some special deal with brazilian travel agencies, because almost any travel ad I see is mentioning All Star Stay.
Not sure about other resorts, but the All star ones is almost sure you will be next door to these groups.

We don't care much about the tour groups while in the parks but we want to be able to sleep lol

thanks in advance for any comment/suggestion :D

These groups travel year round lately, but you have 100% chance to hit one from mid June-Mid august (July being the hell on earth). Also from Mid Nov-Mid February (December (after the 15th and January being the peak)

Also the week that hold Oct 12 will have a significant improve in the amount of brazilian groups.

All those periods above are school out periods.

I´ll be in the World from Dec, 10- Dec 17 2011 and I´ll let you know how it was...

Hint: Most groups follow a schedule so it´s a great idea ask the group guide (one with the flag and talk-about radios) about their plans for the day (and even for the week... Most brazilians love to chat and I think they will share
this info with pleasure.

Also If you feel a group is behaving in such a way that is inappropriate or even disturbing you (or your family), please talk to the tour guide. He/She should be able to handle the situation quiclky and let him/she know that you ARE going to complain with a WDW CM if nothing is done.

My 2 cents as brazilian is: they should behave or should be kicked out. PERIOD.

Oh and BTW... Most of brazilian are nice, educated and easy going people :hippie:
But teens... :scared1:

We were there in 07/2007 and 07/2010. Tons of tour groups, we just teneded to turn the opposite way, as to not get caught up in them.

I think the only time we had an issue with the groups is when it came to Fantasmic. The trip in 2007, I have never been pushed and shoved so much in my life, with all the groups trying to stand together, even if they got to the line 30 minutes after the leader. Would not have have been that bad, but I was with my mother and my son. It was hot, and we were not sure we even wanted to see the show, and that just ruined it for my mother and son.

Got smarter for 2010, we did the Fantasmic dining package. No pushing and shoving from anyone! :)

Do these groups stay for a month or does one group come in as one is leaving? We plan on being there next year from June 8-16. How busy are these groups during these dates?

We go every year in July. I honestly have no problem with the tour groups in the parks, I just avoid the ride that they are going to. However, their behavior in the hotels is an entirely different story. For years we stayed in the value resorts and we felt almost taken hostage by their behavior. Running and banging on the doors late at night, prank calling the rooms, sitting in front of the rooms and in the walkways screaming/singing was a nightly occurance. One night a few had been drinking and were take away by ambulance. 3 years ago their behavior was so bad that after the umpteenth call to secuirty ASMO actually switched our resort to POFQ in the very wee hours of the morning. A very nice CM drove us over in his van and helped us bring our luggage to our new room. SInce then POFQ has been our new home and I will return there next week. BUT, I've since read that they have been spotted staying at POFQ. I'm not exactly excited to run into them again.

These dates kids should be at school, so you may run into a group but it will be nothing to worry about. you should be safe.
As I said before Brazilian travel agencies offers group travels year round, but during school time there are very few groups traveling and most of them are adults or seniors.
Avoid July, December (after 15), January and February.

PW isn't that bad. It is seriously blown out of proportion on the Dis, IMO. We have been a few times during that week and pre Dis I didn't even notice them although I was at thier resort. The kids are busy during the day so mostly hit the parks in the evenings. They also don't stay together in large groups, they splinter off in smaller groups from each team alot. I don't know if thier resort has been released yet this year but they are usuaully at the All Stars, espically Sports, and one moderate as spill over resorts.

Not so sure about this one. I have read things here and also in the news about fights, expulsions, etc. for Pop Warner. A few years ago they kicked out 3 teams, I think, for a brawl that took place at their resort. We are going this year with 2 days overlap, not looking forward to it.

We go the second week of Aug. every summer and have never seen a tour group. We were always told that July is the big month.

The only time we ever went in July was 2009 and we will never go during that time again. We didn't witness a lot of bad behavior (bathroom line cutting, pushing and positioning issues a few times) and I didn't mind the chanting in the parks. What bothered me most was the leaders standing in the FP lines with 50 - 100 tickets and a huge amount of people showing up at one attraction all at once. Not saying it's wrong, I just choose to go at a time when this isn't happening. I know any large group can be at the parks at any given time, but if I know it in advance, I'll try to avoid it.:rolleyes1

pop warner... that takes place the first week of December right?

I believe POR is the one moderate resort they use, for overflow. they don't use pop.

last year, mid july, the brazilian groups were everywhere. we made the mistake of stating at sports for 2 nights, they took over the resortm the buses, with chating , screaming, soccer balls hitting our window, the coach of a soccer team starting a fight with my hubby becasue we were smoking in the dsa. boys would not move out of the way on the sidewalk, totally blocking it while we were walking with our luggage (when my boys were that age, they would have HELPED! with the luggage), tkaing our lounge chairs if we got up for ANY reason,e tc etc.
