Brazilian Tour Groups?

They were pretty much gone for a while now they're back. Blame the weak dollar.

I've always fantasized about grabbing the flag from the leader and running all over the park with a hoard of screaming Brazilians chasing after me.

BTW to the poster who asked about teams getting kicked out of AS Sports, it was a fight between two Pop Warner teams. All the kids and their parents were kicked out of the resort in the early morning hours. If the search function was working you could search for the threads, but....

I was right in front of a large Brazil group at Big Thunder Mt. on Thursday. They were singing too loudly in my ear but were just having fun. It didn't bother me (except for my eardrums) as much as strollers nipping at my heels.

We've had the pleasure of spending our last two WDW vacations with the South American tour groups. I think most are from Brazil, but I remember one with shirts saying they were from Argentina. Some are nice, some are rude, but all are loud and disruptive when they travel in packs. Our Brazilian waiter at Mama Melrose told us he was embarrassed by them. Anyway, in 2006 and 2007, we were in WDW in July. We're going in August this year because I've heard they'll be gone. We just decided we don't need the extra hassle on top of the heat and crowds, so I'm hoping they're gone by about August 3.

I did some googling and found some interesting stuff for you guys;)

In Brazil, due to the Law of Directives and Bases of Brazilian Education, the academic year must have 200 days, both at schools and at universities. The school year usually begins during the first week of February. There is a 3-week long winter break in July. The Brazilian school year ends in December, summer in Brazil.

In Brazilian universities academic terms are defined as periods or semesters (período, semestre). The majority of undergraduate courses are 8 semesters (four-year) long or 10 semesters (five-year) long.

Scroll down to find Brazil ... as it does list the academic terms for most major countries. It looks like Jan was prime time for the Brazilian teens.

As to the debate about teens being disruptive VS the culure thing...
Let me tell you something :rotfl: :rotfl:
I made a huge mistake last spring break by taking a cruise with my DH to <GASP> Mexico.... our (meaning Americans) Teenagers are HORRID HORRID down there!!!!!!!!!! those poor people in Mexico must think some pretty nasty things about OUR parenting :rotfl: :rotfl: I saw things teenagers were doing in costa Maya that I couldn't type on ANY BOARD let alone this board:rotfl:
I am not talking about a handful of teenagers either... we are talking an entire town of American teenagers doing what most would consider immoral/ illegal or both :rotfl:

I am by no means a prude (just look where I live :rotfl: ) but to compare a little chanting, yelling and cutting into lines as the worst offenses these Brazilian teens do on their spring break? It sure beats what "our teens" are doing down in Mexico!
I think teens will be teens no matter where they come from. Not all teens, of course, but for many teens the lack of a parent to pop them in the back of the head means ITS PARTY TIME :rotfl:

I bet those American teens were in Mexico for some Pop Warner event.. :rotfl2:

Most of the teens I saw couldn't walk let alone throw a football at that particular time :rotfl:

Nothing like watching a group of 16 year old girls in bikinis doing a strip tease at the pool bar in the center of the "town" ... for those who have been to Costa Maya, you know the pool bar I am talking about :rotfl:

Now, for a teenage boy who may read that it might sound "fun" but for us parents ... it was a nightmare to see.. I will just leave it at that.

I see similar things when it comes to Mardi Gras (in my hometown). Mardi gras used to be a really fun time ...meant for "adults only" to cut up and get silly.
now it has become a mecca for teenagers and college kids. it has sadly gone down hill .... you can't go to Mardi Gras without seeing someone throwing up in the street, using the bathroom in the middle of the street (and I don't mean just going #1 here....) I used to LOVE Mardi Gras, the crowds, the having a little too much wine at Bacchus and laughing and giggling at other people. As I said, I am by far not a prude but the way the teenagers carry on is just way over the top. It is one of the reasons you see so much talk on "this board" about locals getting away from the crowds at mardi gras to go to Disney. To someone who has never been to mardi Gras this may sound hysterical .... going to Disney to get away from crowds....
What we are NICELY trying to say is we are trying to get away from all the kids whose parents send them alone to New Orleans for Mardi Gras without supervision...

We just got back from 10 days in Disney. The most Brazilian groups we saw were Wednesday - Saturday. They didnt cut in line in front of us, they just like to scream.. alot! We were in the first small room at the Haunted Mansion and I swear my ears were starting to bleed! There was a huge group of Brazilian Teenage girls pretending to be scared, it was way over the top. Everyone told them to shut up, it was insane. We avoided them like the plague the rest of the trip. Same thing happend last year in the boiler room at the Tower of Terror, just alot of screaming for no reason.

hey these Brazilian teens may be on to something the Dis'ers haven't figured out yet :lmao:

If you scream really loud everyone avoids you and you get to go to the front of the line :rotfl2:

I think the problem is large groups of young people without their parents there are going to act up. Doesn't matter if their from Brazil, Alabama or wherever. The guides and chaperones should be the ones to make sure they act accordingly whether it's a tour group from Brazil or a church youth group.

I agree!!:thumbsup2

We encountered a Brazilian teen tour group on Dinosaur. As I passed one of the queue CMs I commented "This isn't going to be an enjoyable time." She told me when we reached the load platform, tell the CM doing the loading that we didn't want to be in the same car with them, which I did.

Word had already gotten out about that group (they talked loudly through the pre-show), and the CM at the load platform did as we requested.

This is hilarious! We need to get some of our DIS'ers together and keep them going on a ride that is not one of the popular ones. This is how it could work: One of us leads them on to Stitch. When the ride is over, they lead the TG out and hand the flag off to another DIS'er and promptly lead them back in to the Stitch line again. We can keep repeating this, thus freeing up the other attractions.

Or...........we can go with your fantasy and start a new event. We can call it the Tour Group Marathon.:lmao:

If in Epcot I would lead thm over to Journey into Imagination with Figment. It's got a large capacity and no one else ever rides it.

I was at WDW from January 12th until the 24th, and saw these groups of teens I was observing their moves since I have read a lot about all the yelling and rude behavior. I really did not encounter any problems, except how they affected the lines. I have to point out however that teenagers are teenagers anywhere (saw an american kid jumping from vehicle to vehicle at TLTA, the groups from my observation divide themselves into mini groups, the troublemakers, the cool crowd, the shy and the outsiders. I was stuck in the middle of one of these groups at POTC and while the first boat that left was loud and yelling from the starting point, the second one was quiet, the thrid boat we were stuck in with them and they were well behave, exept one decided to lay down on the boat, but quickly got up when a castmember called his attention. In all I think that I was more worried about what was going to happen with these teens than what actually happened. Maybe we were lucky.

I've been reading so many of these stories, and I wonder if the yelling is a behavior from Brazilian's national pass time- Soccer? Maybe they do a lot of yelling in the soccer stadium??? So they bring the screaming to Disney ??:confused3

This is yet another recent story from another Disney web site, seems like the same story each time- (what would you do if you were Disney?)

"The group leaders are the worst! We were at Indy when a couple of tour groups came in. They were getting ready for the pre-show, and the groups were chanting as loud as they could, everybody in my area was mad. I was upset, but at least I can go see the show anytime I want. At one point somebody tried to throw a stack of FPs to another group member and hit a British guest who was sitting next to us in the head. She picked them up to see what they were and got yelled at by the tour guide to give them back. During the pre-show, the group kept yelling and chanting, everybody in our area was asking why CMs weren't doing anything. When they went to pick somebody from the section we were in, the tour guide jumped on stage. Poor Marion, you could tell she let him do it just so they wouldn't create a scene. He started to conduct his group from the stage. I finally got up and left, and when we got outside I asked to speak to a GSM. Trying to remain calm I explained what happened and asked why no CMs had intervened. He gave us a No-Strings even though we said that's not what we were looking for, that we were more concerned about the guests. He said stage management had called him and told him to keep an eye on the group and they were going to talk to the CMs about how to handle this type of behavior. It's just disappointing that the show was ruined for all of the guests, not just in our section, but in the show because of this one group with a bad guide."

I don't remember all the details, but a few months ago there were news reports about a group at ASSports (I believe) staying there for a sporting event (either Pop Warner or LIttle League) got into a fight--two different teams or states--and they were escorted off the grounds. Sorry I don't remember details.

Here is the discussion link.

Pop Warner and Brazilian tourists always gets an active discussion thread. Now if there was a way we could include Healies in the same thread it would a Trifecta! :surfweb:
