Brazilian Tour Groups?

I'm at Disney right now, and I seen many tour groups, but none were heading where I was (whew!). Today I did see a group screaming exhuberantly on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority when their train car passed mine. Wow - so even the TTA has some wild fans! Who knew? :)

My wife heard a funny discussion at the Backlot Express.

A tour group arrived just after we ordered. As my wife was waiting for the food, the tour guide asked to see the manager and asked if he could get anything for free for bringing 55 people to the restaurant. The manager said that Disney used to give the tour guide free food but not anymore.

One of the big changes this year is that many of the BTGs (Brazilian Tour Groups) are using former Disney CMs as group guides. They know what behavior is acceptable and what is not. They tend to keep their groups in line better than "civilians".

It's a little offensive to see that other think the groups are bad because they are teens. I have two teens that are just awesome!!! I was dreading the teen years because of all the dreaded teen stories, but now they are 17 and 16 and I've had so much fun with them!!! So, no, it really doesn't have to do with being a teenager. It has to do with ignoring rules and ignoring common courtesy!!!

When we were there in the summer, we encountered pushing, shoving, shouting, moving others over, and over-all rudeness. One group was the parents of the teens breaking in line for the slides at BB. They were way older than me(actually not teens!!) and certainly should have known better!! It doesn't matter to me where they are from or how old they are. It does matter how they treat other guests and the CMs.

Cast members report many problems...because these kids are mostly upper-class and taught from birth that the working class, and anyone that isn't upper-class is not to be respected or listened to... just a cultural thing...not really the teens fault :confused3

Some light on this subject:
Brazilian upper-class does use tour-groups agencies, all these TGs are middle-class;
Check your sources, you're right regarding the cultural thing :) but absolutely wrong about "taught from birth that...." thing (again, consider they are middle-class) :hippie:

We were touring the parks with them last July. The thing I didn't like was when you get inline for your fastpasses and the girl infront of me was getting a billion passes. OK maybe not a billion but a lot. She emptied the machine and her friend in the line next to her that was helping emptied that one out too. The CM tried to help them but it seemed like we were in line forever. I feel bad sometimes when people have to wait behind me and I'm only getting 6.

I remember my experience with a Group from Argentina .... The whole trip all you heard was hundred's of people yelling...Argentina-ya-ya-ya....over and over and over again...they just wouldn't stop yelling no matter where they were....ugh...

Not having anything to do with WDW, but we encountered a group of Spanish (I assume it was Spanish they were speaking) teens at the Gatwick airport in England last August. They were doing that same annoying chanting/shouting right in the airport. :confused3

One thing is for sure, I'd never send my kids to Brazil for a vacation. So retribuition to the kids parents that come here is out of the question. :rotfl: But the chanting shouldn't be allowed. It's annoying and not necessary, something I'm sure they don't do in their own country. Maybe Disney should send a "How to act on your Disneyworld vacation" to these kids.

Skipperkim: A few years back Disney actually made some effort to "educate" these Brazilian Tour groups in proper behavior.
Obviously, it didn't work--.

we were at the world last week 1/16-1/24. We stayed at POR and there were at least 3 tour groups. 2 that were Brazilian, 1 Columbian. We also saw many more tour groups in the parks. The only problem we encountered at the parks was when the paths narrowed and they took up the whole area. Now if a family of 5 did that, you can usually scootch by. You could not with this group. But we never heard the chanting, very little yelling. Yes, there was some running, but not much. And they were very good at our resort. I saw no problems. And even though they were teens (boys and girls mixed together) you did not see any kissing etc... My own 14 year old was with us and I never have many problems with teens.

My problems come from the strollers and parents who think their small children (babies to about six) should get royal treatment before and above everyone else.

I have nothing against Brazilians. They are probably very nice folks ( they seem to be very laid back on Anthony Bourdain's show).

At WDW the tour groups are HUGE! As they walk through the park they yell at the top of their lungs. At Fantasmic the different groups yell at each other to see who is loudest, they do this for at least 10 min straight, it is beyond annyoying, if you are seated next to them I'm sure it is painful.

If they would make the groups smaller or let the kids explore the park on their own it would not be so bad. I just don't understand why they have to tour in groups of 100.

Things may be different now, the last time I saw the groups was in 2005.

Well, it was a good idea. Maybe banning them for the day might be of more use for education purpose. Thus telling them their behavior will not be tolerated.

What are you talking about with this? What's the scoup?

I don't remember all the details, but a few months ago there were news reports about a group at ASSports (I believe) staying there for a sporting event (either Pop Warner or LIttle League) got into a fight--two different teams or states--and they were escorted off the grounds. Sorry I don't remember details.

I think the problem is large groups of young people without their parents there are going to act up. Doesn't matter if their from Brazil, Alabama or wherever. The guides and chaperones should be the ones to make sure they act accordingly whether it's a tour group from Brazil or a church youth group.

Thanks, toocherie, appreciate the response!

I am tolerant of a parent taking a child to the restroom or for whatever reason a person joining their group in line.....but a group pushing past me is not going to happen in this lifetime. I have encountered groups of rude kids trying to push their way past me......not happening. I will remind them in English or Spanish....the line starts here or la linea empieza aqui! Yes, I know portuguese is the official language in Brazil, but I think they still get the message.

Amen to that! There is no way on God's green earth a huge group of teenagers is going to muscle in on MY place in line, no matter what language they speak or don't speak. "No!" in a loud, angry voice is fairly universally understood.
