Brazilian Tour Groups?

We were there last July and did experience some issues with Brazilian tour groups. The biggest problem was they way groups of 25 or more would run (literally) through the crowds mowing down anyone who got in their way, chanting and clapping all the while. We had the most problems with this one day at EPCOT. During a less crowded time it would not have been that big of a deal, other than being annoying, but in July crowds it was downright dangerous.

Also, the group leaders would take all of their group's park tickets and go and get fastpasses for the entire group. This caused HUGE back-ups at the machines, as sometimes they would be inserting tickets for 20 minutes straight. And you couldn't just get in line for another machine because there would be a group leader in that line as well.

Personally, I couldn't care less where you come from, because bad behavior is the same in any language. All groups should be made to comply with certain rules for the safety and courtesy of every park guest.

Don't worry about the Brazilians. "Come on in, the Parks are fine!" Brazilians offer no more of a challenge than any other group of folks. They aren't wild animals.

I respectfully disagree.

There were a bunch of them staying at All Star Movies last July. That's my favorite resort. We're staying at Port Orleans this July. I assure you, it's not because we wanted to spend the extra money.

I'm not going to feel bad about it. It's not racist or predjudice. It's the truth. The tour groups last year were absolutely obnoxious, rude, and uncourteuos. They run in front of you, cut in line, chant at the top of their lungs through the parks like they're at the finals of the World Cup.

The only time we could go this summer is in July and my wife and I have already decided, we're not staying for Wishes or Spectromagic. We'll watch the fireworks from outside the park. We literally felt as though we were in danger of being injured last year at the Magic Kingdom at night.

On the other hand, we were speaking to a manager at All Stars following a fight that broke out between a father and 5 Brazillian tour group members who were drinking and playing soccer in the hallway at about 2:00AM, and he said that Disney received so many complaints this year that in the future stricter rules are going to be enforced before they arrive that they "must adhere to".

I respectfully disagree.

I'm Brazilian, I live in Brazil (Sao Paulo), I'm in this forum since a long time (just to see news, tips, never had posted before... popcorn:: ) and I'm going to WDW again (July 2nd) for a 25 days trip (BCV). I have to agree with you. I always try to avoid large Brazilian teenager groups without supervision (even here in Brazil).

100% exactly what we experienced.

there was a huge group of them at the parks when we were there last dec
they didnt bother me
they were yelling and clapping and chanting as they walked up and down the steets at MGM

I know it sounds petty and silly, but that bothers me. I think it's being disrespectful of other guests.

2nd week of last December we had two LARGE groups of Brazilian teen girls. They all wore bright yellow shirts. They made a slow day at Epcot into a busy day for us due to dodging them. However, besides an occasional chant they were pretty darned good girls.

I told our group it was like being in that old sci-fi horror flick 'The Blob' with each big yellow group a monster. You knew you were going to be in trouble if it caught up with you (lines, crowds etc.) so you just had to avoid them all day. Group size dynamics dictate group travelling speeds however and we could always beat them somewhere or head the opposite direction.

If any of us saw them coming we yell, "The Blob! Nine o'clock!"

Annoying but not unavoidable.

Well, now, this thread really scares me. If I were walking through the Parks and a group RAN over my DGD(2), I would be enraged!!!!!!
Pushing and shoving of people in wheelchairs!!!! Moving children from their CS table!!! Charging the rides!!!! Knocking a child off of a bench!!! AND Disney allows this?????????? Scary, very scary!!!

Disney allows just about anything as long as they see $$$$$$$$$.

Ok... my 2nd post, just because it worked for me...
When you see a rude attitude (for any group), pay attention at their t-shirt and/or that darned "flag". Always has a name (travel agency). With that name, go to a CM (or GR) and present your complain. It worked for me (much better than say "shut up" in Portuguese... trust me.

Or, if you prefer the more polite "be quiet, please"....

Seja quieto, por favor

:thumbsup2

Unfortunately the only time we can go this year is the end of July. 2 years ago during the 4th of July Illuminations at EPCOT they had the nerve to sing the Brazilian national anthem in unison while our national anthem was playing.:sad2:

This is true disrespect for the US and it's people:mad: ...if they have no more respect than this, they should not be allowed to enter the US in my opinion...if they want to "play" here, they should at least not be such "animals" when our National Anthem is playing...again, it seems as though a Disney official should have stepped in and at least calmed the situation...:sad2:

Sadly, as is the case with many foreigners, they feel as though they are our guest and therefore should have free reign to act however they want and be treated with special attention.

I agree....kind of like speaking in their native language rather than speaking English while in public...I find this VERY disrespectful myself...no matter what the nationality. AND...before everyone jumps my case....I think the same is true when a US citizen visits a country where another language is spoken...to me it is just common-courtesy....:confused3 Respect for the country you are VISITING not a citizen of!

All, what can be done to mitigate this situation? IMHO, specifically for the Brazilian case, formalize complain against "travel agencies" (as mentioned before) not only to Disney but to Brazilian embassy too. There are formal mechanisms and they work (again... worked for me).
and please, do not generalize the "disrespect thing"... do not forget that not only bestialized tourist groups go to WDW, (good and "normal" :) ) families goes too.

Well they must have won that year!!!My mother who was in her seventies at the time was almost mowed over by thongs of Brazilians teens chanting"Brazil, Brazil"

Ok, that part wasnt so bad ;)

That's a little harsh, don't you think? You can't expect people, if they don't know the language, to be entirely silent in public. :)
There are obviously tourists that can speak English, but people just visiting a country can't be expected to know the native language. I feel bad for people who travel a lot if this is the case! :rotfl:

We will be in Epcot on July 4th and I am so looking forward to IllumiNations and the special red, white and blue fireworks afterwards. I hope I am no where near any group singing something else while this is going on.

A few years ago we were in Epcot for NYE and after all the NYE celebrations there was a large group singing a song in their native language (not sure what it was). We actually enjoyed this but it was after our song and everyone clapped when it was over (not because they were finished but because it seemed they were having so much fun and adding to the celebration).
