Brazilian Teenagers????

90% of Brazilians give the other 10% a bad name.

We have run into the groups a few times but have never had any serious problems with them. If we see them approaching, we just to the other way. Except my DS, he tought the girls were really hot and was searching the groups out big time! :goodvibes

Does anyone know the reason for singing & clapping so loudly through the parks? Just curious. I mean, I'm excited to be at WDW too...I occasionally squeal when I see a character but, what's with drawing SO much attention to themselves?

I think they chanting because they are are so proud of their nation and want to flaunt it to America!

Oh, and I for one haven't heard any BTG I've seen in past trips chant!

Is this whole thread even real? I'm surprised by this.

Here's a newsflash. While the Brazilian teens may be out of control (have never seen them), we were at Disney last week and there were hundreds of white teens there for some cheerleading competition who felt they needed to cheer, yell, scream, etc. on every ride they were on. They cut in front of us on numerous rides claiming their friends were up front and they needed to catch up. They yelled and screamed late into the night by the pool at BWV's keeping us awake.
All that said, we had a great vacation and didn't let these minor irritations ruin our day. My point is that while these specific Brazillian kids may be unruly, rude, etc., they do not hold exclusive rights to that club.

I agree with others that say American teens would be (and are) just as bad half the time. They give the rest of us a bad name. If I'm with a group of friends (and they're all responsible and respectful people), we still get followed at the mall by security guards, or get nothing but eye rolls from some sales people.

Besides, I think the tour groups make Fantasmic! just that much a better experience, when they manage to get an entire crowd of people unified to do the wave before the show starts!

We were married at WDW in July of 2007 and went again in July of 2008 for our one year anniversary. Two years in a row of this obnoxiousness is why we've changed our dates for this year (which means not being there on our actual anniversary. :sad2:)

I agree that it is NOT anything against Brazilians (I have some very amazing Brazilian friends,) and I TOTALLY agree that perhaps the ratios of any underaged tour group needs to be more closely monitored, as well as there being an age requirement for what is considered to be a chaperone.

We have had some very negative experiences.
Here are some examples:

We've seen groups of 20-30 traveling together all linked arm in arm, spread all the way across walk ways so no one can get around them.

We saw a group of about 20 of them, shoeless in the fountain at the entrance to EPCOT, splashing and playing, and soaking anyone passing by while a few CMs just stood there watching and rolling their eyes.

We've tried to go to the MK for Wishes and Spectro only to not be able to get down Main St. because 4-5 groups each consisting of 20-30 kids each all converged together to watch. They got there 1 1/2 hours early, sat down on the sidewalks & street of Main Street, and proceeded to chant and yell at the top of their lungs. In and of themselves, I have no problems with any of these things, but there was no physical way to get through without literally stepping over each of them, I don't know how people with strollers and small kids got through except to go through the stores and Casey's. The sound of 200+ people cheering and screaming all at once was deafening. My DH and I literally could not hear each other speaking and we were right beside each other.

The line jumping is the other major issue. We had multiple experiences, where we would see that a line wasn't very long and decided to wait rather than fast pass. We'd wait about 10 minutes and then suddenly 20 people would run up and join the 1 line holder that was in line a few people ahead of us. Now a 10-15 minute wait turns into a 30-40 minute wait!

I will also say that we've seen some of the Brazilian teens behaving kindly, politely, etc... But unfortunately, like a PP mentioned, the 10% ruins it for the other 90%.

One piece of advice, DO NOT try to eat at any counter service places between 11-1. We went to the ABC Commissary around 10:30 and my DH waited in line to order for 45 minutes (the line was short, but each person in line was ordering for 10-15 people,) and I felt like I was fighting a war trying to get a table. They were pushing people (and children!) out of the way to get open tables, and were running up to tables that people were saving and grabbing the empty chairs away. When people tried to tell them their family was in line and they were holding the table, they would say 'No English' and laugh and run away. When I was finally able to snag a small 2 person table it was in between 2 other 2 person tables that each had 7 Brazillian teens at them who then proceeded to put their food on our table because they didn't have enough room :scared1:

our trip in July of 1997 had these groups EVERYWHERE, no matter where we went, WDW, Universal, etc, they were there and they were OBNOXIOUS!! We have never been back in the summer since!

I teach middle school chorus and have taken my groups for Magic Music Days, and have also experienced the joys of large groups of other teenagers. If my students acted the way I have seen other large groups, they would be sent home at their parents' expense. No discussion, no debate, no questions asked. We also make sure we have a 1 chaperone per 8 student ratio.

I am 28 years old and I am brazilian. I love Disneyworld and I´ve been there several times. I fact, I have to admit that I avoid brazilian groups while I am in the USA. I just hate the way they behave in theme parks, airports, malls, restaurants, etc.

When I was a teenager, I used to be part of those groups. Let me try to explain what I feel:

In Brazil, we have a lot of wonderful places to go, especially beaches, but nothing like WDW. Our themeparks are very poor or almost non-existant. The dream of most brazilian teenagers, since they are little kids is visiting WDW. Usually, at the age of 15, their parents give them this present, a trip to WDW. They become very excited because it is their first international trip, to a magical place, without their parents. Since everything is happening for the first time, sometimes they lose their minds, they think they are conquering the world, that nothing else matters. These explain all the excitment, the singing, the happiness, and also all the bad things that were mentioned in this tread. They feel free to do whatever they want, because they speak a language that nobody understand, they don´t have their parents and they have money to spend.

I agree that the respect to the limits and to other people should be part of everybody´s education and should be learned at home and at school, and nothing justifies rudeness and disrespect, especially when you are in other country, in other culture.

For those of you who want to avoid large brazilian groups, our winter vacation is on July. If you go to WDW in June or August you should be fine.

Our summer vacation is in December, January and first part of February. Also it is a tradition to take one week off in October, but it is only the second week of the month.

I have just visited WDW in early December and I have´t met any brazilian group.

Someone asked wich park they visit each day. I must answer all parks all days, because there are a lot of groups from different parts of the country.

If you have any questions about Brazil or about Brazilians, feel free to contact me at my e-mail address: silvio.luis@editora-atlas.com.br

I hope we can change the bad image of our country in a near future.

Thanks everybody,

Silvio Luis.

When in December? We are going Dec 10-18, 2009 & my son has ASD, so these type of kids would ruin our trip. Please advise when in Dec 2009 they will be visiting. Thank you for your information & honesty. :santa::santa::santa:

So I assume you have experienced this first hand?

My suggestion is to avoid the value resorts. We have experienced this event. We were at the All Stars in July 2001 and so where the kids (no more values in the summer for us). We are pretty easy going and tried to avoid the stampede as much as possible. We avoided the buses, but it was hard to avoid the food courts. The only time I lost it was while standing in line to get an autograph with my then 6 year old grandson. (Back when the characters visited the resorts). When his turn arrived, several of the girls just shoved my little grandson out of their way and pounced on the character. I walked up to them and told them to move and where the line was. They huffed and stomped off. BTW, we did go to the front desk and complained and the CMs shared our concern, but apparently was nothing that could be done. The behavior of this group of young people was to monitored by their chaperons---which I rarely never saw and when I did, they were outnumbered 30 to 1. I don't intend to sterotype any group, but have to say I have been to the value resorts in the spring every year for 12 years and we are there during Music Days and end of school trips. We have never had one problem out of any of the groups of kids during our stays then. As you say, kids are kids, and we expect a lot of excitment, especially at the pool. Most of them are a delight and very respectful. We often enjoy asking them where they are from and what school they attend. But until you actually experience this July group of young people yourself, you will not know what we have gone through, this is something you will never forget.

Amen! I was there 20 years ago and experienced this. They were incredibly rude, even the adult chaperones that were with them. One lady knocked me out of the way to get in the toilet!

I treat the hordes of Brazilian kids just like I treated the Gypsy kid swarms in Rome. You have to stop them in their tracks from the start and they won't bother you. It's the mob mentality and you have to deal with that appropriately. They just will move on to the path of least resistance, but at least they won't bother you.

I don't mind the singing and yelling, kids will be kids, but as soon as one tries to cut in front of me or run through people near me, it's bad news for them. I know enough Spanish and Portuguese to put them in their place as they get a closeline trying to get by me. One should always be proficient at put downs and insults in multiple languages.

They truly have no manners...I know people are thinking we are over exaggerating their behavior but were not.

I have to add my story because it was funny to me. This was back in the mid 80s when they had the double decker buses in EPCOT. There were four of us that got on an empty bus. We were followed by one of these groups. They got everyone on except for 8 people. Since the driver wouldn't allow the last 8 on the bus due to no more space, they all got off the bus and waited for the next one. We watched as they got everyone on that bus except for 4 people. That driver wouldn't let all of them on either I guess because they all got off that bus too. I wondered how long it took for them to realize that there just wasn't enough seats for their entire group on one bus? It was funny to watch. :lmao:

It probably really depends what your luck is like should you run across them. We went late June/early July '08 and, while we did see a few of these groups, the worst they did was chant loudly. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention and/or have to experience them first hand, but it didn't seem like they were being rude or anything more serious than just being obnoxious. We also stayed at Pop Century and not once did I see or hear a Brazilian tour group while there.

If you're not staying at a value resort, you can at least avoid the herds of kids in the lobby using every single phone and them yelling in the courtyard at all hours of the night. One good thing was the ability to get in a different park's line than the ones that they lined up in.

Stand your ground and don't let them be rude to you. One good thing is that they do not use fastpass and use standby for their rides so by using that, you can minimize your exposure to the singing and clapping.

They were out in full force last summer. There were more tour groups last summer than I ever remember seeing before. Also, they aren't just at Value Resorts anymore. We saw them at Coronado Springs last Summer. Staying at a Deluxe Resort is about the only way to avoid them at your hotel.

A co-worker just went to WDW two weeks ago and, when he came back, he said "Hey, what's the deal with the kids in yellow shirts? I think they were from Brazil, but we saw all these groups following these people carrying flags." So, the economy hasn't kept them away at least so far.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with ANY tour group, so long as they were well mannered and not outright obnoxious. The Brazilians aren't the only groups that get rowdy at WDW. One summer there was some kind of Karate group staying at Coronado Springs and they weren't the best behaved bunch of young adults!

Well it sounds like you had better cancel your trip, because if certain kids are going to ruin it and you want things just perfect for you - you are SOL!! Any time of year you go, you cannot pick and choose who will be there as well.

We experienced them last July. Only once did we run into a rude group that cut lines in front of other guests just to get back with their groups. We wouldn't let some of them past us......meanies that we are! LOL! On another occassion they were chanting in the shallow end of the TL wave pool....taking up tons of space playing games.
