I never thought I'd say this, but if they truly don't take any of the bailout money - I will buy Ford for our next vehicle. Anyone else feel this way?

Good for them! I wonder what would happen if American car makers joined forces, said we are not going to be duped into making cars that Americans don't want. We will do our best with "CAFE" standards, but if we don't make it, tough luck. Do you really think congress would PUT them out of business and not allow them to sell cars, after all of the money that they are willing to throw their way?

yes. We are in the market for a new car and were looking at American-made foreign cars. This may open Ford up to us.

And it has nothing to do with possible bankruptcy like they'd like you to think and every thing to do with the bailout fiasco. I'll already be supporting them involunatrily wiht my taxes. They don't deserve any more from me.

We had a Ford Explorer that we really loved, but we downsized to a Focus when gas got so pricey. DH would LOVE an F150, but there's really no need for us to have one. We recommend their products to everyone! Good American made vehicles!!!

I'm not in the market for a new car and probably won't be for a few years. That should give Ford, or the other two, plenty of time to get my attention with real results. If they can't come through, I'm sure Toyota will still be a good option.

What I get from this is that if Ford can work their way through this without a bailout, so can the other two. They just need to go back to the drawing board and start all over. If you wanted to start your own car company you wouldn't be getting billions of dollars from the taxpayers to do it. You would just have to roll up your sleeves and work hard, a good old concept long forgotten.

We always hear about how "profits are down" for big corporations. Too often, that doesn't mean they are in the red, just that they aren't making as much profit as they'd like to. My guess is that's it's a situation where multi-millionairs are fretting because they may not become billionairs this year. They would rather put the working class out of work than cut back on their own salaries and bonuses. That was made clear when all three top execs showed up at the first Congressional hearings in their private jets. They didn't even have the common sense to "jet-pool."

We also need to keep in mind that every cent the government spends is taxpayer money. That means your money and my money.
