as well as the evening extra hours opportunities (if they bring that back as well ) because if we don't , if Disney can get people to pay for extra time in the parks in any kind of significant numbers you will see them phase out EMH for resort guests . They already cut the evening EMH from 3 hours to 2 a couple of years ago . This is them testing the waters so it is important that this test FAILS so we can keep EMH for WDW resort guests . I know nothing is guarenteed and nothing is forever but if this program is a success I fear EMH will in a year or so be nothing but a memory .

I believe you are probably right and I admire your spirit, but I doubt folks would participate. People like me who never would have bought EMM won't be noticed as "boycotting", and all of us are always trying to maximize our own personal trips (whatever that means to each of us individually). Anyone who thinks this benefits them will spend the money on it for themselves and likely be uninterested in making any long-term statement for the "greater good."

We just really like these types of events and don't mind paying for them...so while some will "boycott", there will be lots of families who will find EMM beneficial. It makes mornings with 3 toddlers VERY enjoyable so we can spend the days at our resort. Then we save our fast passes to use in another park.

I honestly thought these pay-to-play extra ours events were a flop, no? Either way, no need to boycott something I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole anyway.
I believe the night event was a flop but the morning magic was successful at MK (extended dates) and has been added to DHS. I personally also consider the dessert parties pay-to-play and those are a pretty big seller as well.

You're probably right but I'm hoping my post might open some eyes and get people to think twice before buying extra time that you can get free by staying on property . If enough people just say no to this money grab program we just might stop this from happening .

I was referring to the extra hours events only. I know the dessert parties are successful (but I ain't paying for those either LOL)

Only thing I'd like to see change with emh is to allow AP's to take part whether their staying on site or not.

I was just wondering if AP got EMH whilst reading this thread so thanks for answering my question before I even asked it ;)

The premiere parking is still going (last I heard) and may people have reported it to be largely empty - not sure boycotting anything will 'help'. Good news is we will not pay extra for 'better' parking or for extra hours

If you're staying on property there's no need to pay for this ...it's included . If you're staying off property the extra money you spend to get this benefit you could have used towards a WDW resort and had all the other benefits that come with it as well .

Not everyone wants to stay on property but might still like to do extra hours which I'm guessing is who they are targeting. For some, it might be more cost-effective to stay off property and just pay for one day of extra hours. If the park that's offering EMM wasn't going to be offering EMH anyway or wasn't going to be open at that time for regular hours, it makes sense to me to allow those who wouldn't be able to take advantage of EMH to come in for an additional fee. Personally we prefer to stay on-site but not everyone wants to pay admittedly higher rates to stay in a Disney resort. I don't necessarily believe that this will lead to the removal of EMH for people who stay on-site as it was never every day anyway.

Then how would they incentivize APs to stay onsite?

Still have AP room discounts. The emh is not a big draw.

We've had AP's for 3 years or so and have only stayed on site once. The hotel prices are far to high for the rooms they have. Shelling out money for the AP's, imo, should warrant being able to take part in EMH as well. I know it won't happen, but I would enjoy it.

I did EMM in June. I walked up a near empty Main Street. I rode 7DMT 14 times before 9 am. Please name the resort that I can stay at that will get me that same experience for free.

I just wouldn't hold your breath. EMH is meant to fill their more than 25K rooms. People pay those high prices for things like EMH. And honestly EMH is busy enough already. They can't afford to open it to more people or it will cease to be any sort of a benefit.

I think this is misguided. Most estimates for EMM is 500 tickets. Disney is only getting about 35,000 dollars per event without taking into account overheard. If EMH account for 1% hotel occupancy, that is 75,000 dollars per day (at a ballpark average nightly rate of 250). Not including overhead. So even if Disney had 7 days a week of EMM, it still would't come close to the benefits Disney gets by EMH being the primary driver for hotel occupancy.

Is Disney making money of off EMM? You betcha. Is Disney making more from EMH being a driver for hotel room occupancy, you betcha.

It's actually not at all like EMH, so it's not included. Early morning magic gives you access to the park with only about 300 other people present. The park feels like your private playground during the time the event is going on until rope drop. Does your little one want to ride the same ride over and over? No problem at EMM. The character M&G have short if any lines and the characters spend a lot more time interacting with each guest since there is not a line of people waiting to get multiple pictures and autographs. The CMs are a lot more relaxed and friendlier too dealing with a much smaller group of people.

In addition, there's an all you care to eat buffet that runs during the event. You can even go to the buffet more than once during the event. Grab a quick juice, coffee and pastry, go ride the rides. Come back later and eat a pretty good breakfast (for Disney) with all the bottled juice and water you can carry.

It gives one quite a jump on the rest of the crowds and frees up a Fastpass or two for either that park or a later park if you have park hoppers.

I'm not saying you should pay for the event if it doesn't interest you. But EMM and EMH are 2 totally different experiences at Disney.

I saw they were including meet & greets at DHS, but didn't think they did in the MK. Did that change?
