Boycott EMM or...

If you're staying on property there's no need to pay for this ...it's included . If you're staying off property the extra money you spend to get this benefit you could have used towards a WDW resort and had all the other benefits that come with it as well .

We are local with no AP's, so if we visit Disney then we are looking at a one day ticket. So it was a little easier for us to rationalize the ticket cost. It was something very special and my eight year old still talks about it. To be honest we would do it again if they extended it to the other parks (at a lower price point since the other parks have fewer attractions).

I saw they were including meet & greets at DHS, but didn't think they did in the MK. Did that change?
I don't believe that EMM at Magic Kingdom "officially" includes characters, but some were present when we were there. I think some also might have also passed through on their way to rope drop M&G, as a few popped up briefly and then magically disappeared.

Trying to compare EMM and EMH is comparing apples to oranges, IMO. EMM is for a very, very small number of people and includes breakfast. From what I can tell, you can basically ride the rides as many times as you care to during the EMM. Also, only a couple of things are open. During EMH, many more attractions are open, but many more people are there as well. I always stay onsite, and I always stay far, far away from whatever park is having EMH on any given day. EMH is crowded and causes the park holding it to be more crowded for the rest of the day as well. I don't even see EMH as a benefit, TBH.

We just really like these types of events and don't mind paying for them...so while some will "boycott", there will be lots of families who will find EMM beneficial. It makes mornings with 3 toddlers VERY enjoyable so we can spend the days at our resort. Then we save our fast passes to use in another park.
Would your mornings be less enjoyable if they opened up the park at 7:45 as part of your admission price and allowed you to buy breakfast for your 3 toddlers for around $10 per child? I don't think the OP was discounting the benefits to arriving early. I got the sense that the focus of the post was that for the price we already pay for admission, is opening up one "land" at the MK on a rotational basis twice a week unworkable? Or opening a few rides at DHS at 7:45 twice a week along with some QS food option? I assume that the crowds would be larger than they are now with the pricey hard ticket. But crowds at 7:45-8:30 will always be low enough to satisfy all but the "I want the park to myself" crowd. I don't know if a boycott is feasible, but if people didn't open their wallets so willingly, Disney would have to come up with a different plan.

We will never pay for EMM. Not because we are joining a boycott, but because the limited number of attractions at that unholy hour just doesn't fit with our vacation strategy. But if my not going will be looked upon by some as making me part of a "movement", I'm happy to be included.

as well as the evening extra hours opportunities (if they bring that back as well ) because if we don't , if Disney can get people to pay for extra time in the parks in any kind of significant numbers you will see them phase out EMH for resort guests . They already cut the evening EMH from 3 hours to 2 a couple of years ago . This is them testing the waters so it is important that this test FAILS so we can keep EMH for WDW resort guests . I know nothing is guarenteed and nothing is forever but if this program is a success I fear EMH will in a year or so be nothing but a memory .

Why stop there? They could start putting a premium on certain hours of the day if they wanted to. Pay extra for night time tickets so you can see Wishes or Fantasmic.

(From the rookie bench)
Here's the thing I simply don't get- I read all of these threads that encapsulate " Should I spend $1600 a week instead of $1400 a week to stay at X instead of Y because my family has outgrown ____/I am going to shove a $60 character breakfast down my 5 person family's throat so we can ride Frozen/ 6 people for a dinner (x$60) so we get a seat at JungleBookFantasmicWishes and don't burn a fastpass/going to WDW isn't quite special enough for my 8 year old daughter- how can I hire Mickey to come wake her up in the morning and wish her a happy birthday/I'm going to spend $200 for a princess outfit and hair and shoes but don't tell my husband but we'll bring a change of clothes for 4 hours later/$69 a head for a StarWarsWishesOsbourneLights dessert party for a 13 minute event that will ruin the rest of grandma's life is she doesn't see it/ the family needs matching shirts for each of the 6 days we are there so I am buying 36 $30 shirts from Etsy/the stuff I buy the kids in the park isn't special enough, I need Tinkerbell gifts for them for each morning...

but then in another thread, many of these same posters are talking about how Disney has gotten too expensive and how they're eating granola bars in the room.
I don't get it.

I don't necessarily agree or disagree. I just thought what you wrote was a hilarious summary of some of what I read on here.

Btw, I'm guilty of trying to buy tickets to the Star Wars dessert thing. Not because it's super special. I'm hoping to get my kids somewhat out of the crowds and my son is a crazy star wars fanatic. I simultaneously think all the upsell stuff is out of hand.

I think any early morning stuff or late extra stuff should be boycotted because it is NOT selling something special. It is selling what you should already get with your ticket: reasonable hours and reasonable lines. I realize that is not garunteed. It is just what I personally think an $105 ticket should buy you.

I truly cannot comprehend paying that much for 3 attractions. If there were more attractions available, I could maybe begin a cost justification process in my mind (though I would likely still fall short of approving it). We've only been to Disney once in the last three years, and I still would have no desire to ride Mine Train 8-10 times in an hour even if it was free.

Part of what makes Disney rides special for us is that we know we may only get to do it once or twice a trip. If I did something over and over in such a short time-frame, it would take away much of what makes it special to me in the first place.

i'm sorry but I've waited a lifetime to be the only one standing in the park...

I will be first in line buying tickets for multiple days anytime they bring the after hours event back... I have no problem with the price and it's a lot cheaper than renting the park myself.

You also get breakfast. I'm not saying whether or not that makes the event "worth it," just pointing out that you do get food in addition to the attractions.

I will boycott in a way simply because I believe it's a rip off. If others find value who am I to say that they shouldn't pay for it. I agree though that Disney will likely add more and more of the same if people pay for it. That could get painful.

I did EMM in June. I walked up a near empty Main Street. I rode 7DMT 14 times 9 am. Please name the resort that I can stay at that will get me that same experience for free.
Well , see , that's the genius of this from Disney's side . They make this "very limited" to start so everyone thinks "oh , this is so worth the money " and then they start selling more and more (kind of like they've done with MNSSHP and MVMCP) and before you know it no more EMH and the feeling of this is worth it is gone as well and it essentially becomes a paid EMH not EMM .

It's more of an event or an experience rather than 3 rides and a meal.

If you go to a major league ballpark, everyone watches the same game. Everyone has the ability to buy food and drink to watch the ballgame. It is a different experience to watch that game in a private box with a catered dinner than it is to sit in the bleacher seats eating a hot dog and drinking a beer. Both experiences involve watching the same baseball game in the same stadium but the event experience will be different depending on where one is sitting. Is it worth it to pay more for a box than a bleacher seat to watch the exact same ballgame? Some people think so, some people think not. That is why different experiences are offered at different price points. To each his own.

There's no comparison. Someone entering for EMH isn't going to ride 7DMT 14 times, no matter how hard they try.

Personally I wouldn't pay for the morning EMM due to the limited rides, but if I had the opportunity to add the evening event on a short trip, there would be no second guessing it for me, even at the $149 it was initially offered at.

Enjoy it while it lasts because Disney is counting on this positive word of mouth to sell this for them and then they will start selling more and more until ....it basically becomes the EMH we got for free , except with less for everyone to do and more money in Disney's pockets .

All this thread did was convince me to do both the MK and HS EMM on our trip the end of Aug/ early sept. I live in Pennsylvania and might make it once or twice a decade. Heck yes I'm doing them. I don't care what I'm doing to the local folks or people that get to go semi annually. I'm living in the now with my family, because who knows what tomorrow brings...

Exactly! My life doesn't revolve around my next trip to Disney. We swore our last (our then 5y/o's first) trip was our "once in a lifetime" but we are going back for a short trip in September 2017 for MNSSHP, but then that will be it for a very long time, probably until we move to Florida in the next 10 years or so. We have a long list of places to go, and Disney can't be one of them for a third time in a decade, so if there's an opportunity for my and my kid to ride 7D, or any ride, 14 times with only a few hundred other people in the park - Disney, take my money.

You're probably right but I'm hoping my post might open some eyes and get people to think twice before buying extra time that you can get free by staying on property . If enough people just say no to this money grab program we just might stop this from happening .

I asked you to name the resort that includes the experience of walking up a near empty Main Street and riding 7DMT 14 times in 75 minutes, which you (twice) claimed was included for free if one stays on property. Your response....

... fails to name a single resort.

I'm not boycotting - all boycotting does is draw attention to the situation and makes it more popular. But I don't have an incentive to pay for this particular event on our average vacations. However, on mine and my husband's couples only trip next year, I would consider something like this for just the two of us.

I think it's jumping the shark a bit to think EMH is being phased out. Disney is too savvy not to know that there are too many guests who stay on property for the specific reason of getting the benefit of EMH.

I wouldn't ever stay off property. That being said, it still isn't the same. These EMM events are really limited and have MUCH smaller crowds than EMH. And the included breakfast is just a bonus. We don't have to order 6am room service or hurry to eat at 7am in the club lounge. We like it and you aren't going to change my mind on that fact. It works better for our family dynamic.
