I figured out how to remember why you bought DVC. Stay in a regular room for 5 nights., That will jog your memory! We didn't have enough points for our recent trip so we stayed 5 nights at WLV then checked into the lodge for 5 nights. I spent those 5 days looking at, and longing for the WLV room that we had stayed in the previous 5 nights. What made things worse is I could see it from our WL room.:( Oh well! Live and learn. I told DH I will never stay in a non DVC room again, even if it means NOT going to WDW.

I don't know, we stayed in an Inn room at Vero the night before we moved to a one bedroom for a week. It was very nice and served us great, expecially given our late arrival that day.

the only thing I would recommend is if you need to break a trip up in that way, *definitely* do the regular hotel room first, then you could spend the first 5 days in excited anticipation, and the next 5 utterly relaxing! :D

JonHM....that's exactly what I was thinking. Many of us stay in a hotel in Orlando the night before we check in to save points. I can't imagine spending that night in a hotel the last night!

And we've stayed in the WL before and loved it....isn't it amazing how DVC spoils you?

That's why when I do break-even analysis for DVC I compare to cash payment for villas. I used to compare to regular room rates but that just doesn't take into account the fact that you have a different vacation experience in the regular rooms.

msdis...hope you had a great trip anyway!

We use either a hotel room or a studio for those late first nt. arrivals. In fact, I just added a studio for the arrival nt. in HH. 99 pts. was just too much to spend for another nt. in a 2 BD, when we're probably going to arrive just in time to sleep. However, I booked us into an Inn rm. for 4 nts. a few yrs. ago. My 2 BD spoiled family hated it. I think it was alittle worse because VB is not a WDW resort & you spend alittle more time in the room. My 2 DSs hate sharing a bed so we start & end every nt. w/ complaints. They also said that they would go for a shorter vacation just to have more space. That's why DVC works so well for us.

I agree, stay in a non-DVC room upon arrival and move to the luxury of a DVC resort.:)

"never" say "never". I don't mind staying in a regular room, even the AllStars, it really makes me feel special when I finally get to DVC.

We stayed at one of the DD hotels last December-- DH's company sent him down for a seminar and that's where we ended up. It was horrible. But hey-- given the choice of going and staying there or NOT going... what do you think I'd choose??

We just decided to stay at POR for the Friday and Saturday night stay and then switch over to DVC. I hope we are not disappointed, but I just did not want to borrow points again. We have stayed at POR and the kids loved it. The kids actually like it better then OKW, because of the fishing (son) and funner pool (daughters). My kids would choose a fun resort over the lack of space. It is my husband and I who want the space. I am hoping by splitting the reservations, it will make eveyone happy.

We, too, stay at a non-DVC resort when we arrive late that first day. But we also love visiting the various WDW resorts, so very often for a longer stay, we will stay at a Mod or Deluxe resort for the first couple of nites and then move over to BWV. It lets us get a flavor for the other resorts first, then we spoil ourselves with DVC at the end. Best of both worlds!

I think your big mistake was going to DVC first! We often take a variety of accomodations during a trip but usually try to schedule the least luxurious first and sort of move up as the trip goes on.....once it was tent camping then CS, later it was a studio then a 1br.

On our last trip we had booked a BWV studio for our first 5 days then a 1br for the next 5. It would have worked out well except that before the trip we added points at VWL and decided to spend 2 nights at the beginning of the trip there...in a 1br. I'll admit I was kind of disappointed in the BVW studio because we got used to the 1br.

We also have a habit of adding a night at the end of our trips.....but that doesn't seem to bother us as much since its only one night and it means we get to stay just that much longer!

Ah, it sure would be nice to have enough points to use whenever we wanted to get away, or stay longer, or whatever...but somehow I think that would be some crazily outrageous number...like 1000!

Thanks for the posts everyone. It wasn't really THAT bad but I thought I would stress how much we appreciate our DVC compared to what we used to appreicate in the moderates, let alone a deluxe resort. It's true that it's hard to go back just as I'm sure the people who stay in 1-br and say they have a hard time going back to a studio. Things did get better as we went from the lodge to VB and had an inn room studio with an ocean view. WOW!!!! That room was hugh and had a million dollar view. Then we got the grand finale as we drove to HH and had a 2-br for the next night. Now I know how some of you live.;) Having only ever stayed in a studio before, this was REALLY like being "home". Everything is relative. And it was kind of good to go "back" for a minute just to remind ourselves:D why we bought DVC.

Absolutely. Everything is so relative!!! we stayed 3 nights at a suites hotel (Hawthorne) before our recent 7 nights at OKW.

I could not wait to get out of the suites hotel and into my 2BR at OKW. The girls said they never want to go to the Hawthorne again! We thought we were doing good to stay near universal. Problem now is, convincing them that not every vacation is going to be a little slice of heaven.

Yep. We are spoiled rotten. But as long as it's done first and not last, I think I can live with it!!! (Next year, it's going to be either Portifino or HRH for 2 nights before OKW, so there won't be any downtime.)

MsDis, sounds like your whole trip was well planned and a nice use of resorts!!!

Last year, after staying a week in our 1BR BWV on points, we switched over to WL for 3 nights...which we then extended to four, then five, then six. We loved it... so much that we bought a add-on at VWL! :D

I guess that's why there are add-on's. You never seem to have enough points.
