I know this will stir a few pots.

My pet hate in restaurants is at the end of the meal, we are always asked if we want boxes for food.
I have never taken food home from a restaurant (except Pizza Hut). I think it is awful to see people walk around with boxes of food in the parks.

My question is:

What do people do with the food? If you are on Disney property and not in a 1 or 2 bed villa, where are you keeping it? Do you take it to the food court the next day to reheat.

I would love restaurants on Disney property to stop this. I know some people will attack me on this point. Maybe I just need educated.

I have ordered food to go even at the parks and brought that back to our room...You would not know if it is leftovers from our meal or from another place...
I know that a lot of people warm up their foods or cook them at the food courts...it really doesnt bother me ..

No problems expressing your opinion...

almost forgot...The moderate resorts also have a fridge in their room...

I frequently took desserts to go the one time we were on the Deluxe dining plan because quite frankly there was just way we could have consumed them after apps and entrees. Now that we do the TIW I have no need to take anything home except for the occasional treat as we only have to order what we want and can eat. We always stay in a studio so we could refrigerate and reheat our food but I don't think that we would ever be in our room enough to do that, but it doesn't bother me if it works for other people.

Not attacking you, I just don't quite understand why it upsets you that the server asks if you want a box for the unfinshed food on your plate, to me that is just being a good server and I would much rather have them ask than just wisk my plate away when I am not finshed eating , which I have had happen before. :confused3

Many times we are heading back to our resort and since I rarely finsh my meal I take it back keeping it in the fridge to have as a snack later or the next day. I might add that I stayed in a studio my last visit so had a microwave and time before that although in a standard room at AKL I had a microwave.
I would not walk around the parks with the food for fear of it spoiling.

We always stay in a deluxe and have a fridge and usually a microwave (didn't request one this past trip, but it's always been available). Nice to have for a snack later or the next day (as PP mentioned). Also, we don't often eat a lot at TS meals and hate to waste, as well. Box it up, we'll make use of it later. The majority of our meals are character buffets, though, so it's not a usual thing for us to carry a box around.

Does it actually bother you to see people with leftovers or just something you've noticed?

Ha. Disney food is expensive so if we don't eat it all and we're going back to the room shortly (or if its cold enough the food is definitely in no danger of spoiling), our leftovers are going with us! We might snack on them later in the room, eat them for breakfast or another meal while we're in our rooms.

We've always had a fridge in our room. :)

I've always thought wasted food was wasted money, so we'll often take home leftovers from restaurants. (When we're at home, I'm able to reuse the leftovers in omelets, etc.) I'd imagine a lot of those people walking around with boxes of food are on the dining plan and don't want to waste their money, either.

While we have never taken boxes out before - we honestly might this time- probably just desserts. Between DD who has given up naps and a baby - we will not be out late at night (be suprised if we ever make it to 9pm). So after they go to bed DH will definitely want a little snack!

There was only 1 time we brought food back to the resort and that was from Tutto Italia and it was because I wasn't feeling well and maybe took 1 or 2 bites of my meal. It would've been a shame to just chuck it. We were staying at the Boardwalk so I heated it up for lunch another day - and I was glad I took it. It was really good, even reheated.

Why? I can't begin to imagine why this would bother anyone. What about those with a CS meal that they've taken to another area to eat? What about food from a vendor?

I put it in the fridge. Sometimes if dd doesn't come to a meal with us, I'll bring her back a favorite dessert for her to eat later. I don't usually bring back leftovers that need to be reheated unless we're in a villa but I think the food courts do have microwaves, don't they?

Yes, the food courts all have microwaves & toasters available for guests to use.

I haven't taken leftovers at Disney before (that I remember) but we were always morning-to-night park people so would not be going right back to our room after a meal. Next trip with DD2, I will have no problem taking our leftovers to go if we are going back to the room soon after eating. (We'll have a fridge in our room.)

I also don't understand why it would bothers OP to see people carrying their leftovers around the parks. Unless they are opening them up & eating during a show or something, how does a guest carrying leftovers affect anyone else?

The last time I boxed up some of our leftovers at a Disney restaurant, they gave us a Disney shopping bag to put it in. Very considerate of them!

Scratching my head over why anybody would find it awful. Maybe you could explain to help me understand? :confused3

Many other accomodations offer small refrigerators and microwaves. We now usually have a DVC studio which comes with both. I have taken leftovers with me to have for lunch the next day. Worst case, I can throw it away just as easily as the restaurant can.

No, I don't think you need educating, you just have an opinion, and well-reasoned opinions are neither right nor wrong, they just are. But maybe I need educating on what that reasoning is.

I've never seen people walking around with leftovers, but then again, how long could you stay in a park with food and be sure it's not going to spoil?

I would think that would probably dictate that most people will not take their food unless they were ready to go back to their resort.

Did you watch Dr. Oz this morning? He said don't do doggie bags or you'll end up overeating.

We usually have a cooler bag with us and will take food that won't spoil if we are going to be in the park for any prolonged period of time. If we are heading right home, I will take whatever we'd eat heated up. Usually what ends up going with us are either apple slices or grapes for ds6.

we've had multiple celebrations during our trips and the signatures tend to give you a celebration dessert on top of what you already ordered. there's no way we could eat that much--but the gestures are appreciated! most recently it was at california grill and we were headed back to the room afterwards so we got to put our boxed chocolate cake in the fridge. we shared it for breakfast the next morning and it was delish :)

Wasted food=Wasted money, and while I don't do it all the time, I do it often enough since the portions are so large. Not sure why you are so bothered by it, or why you think it is your buisness what others do, but you are entitled to your opinion.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Disney should stop the process. If I paid for my food, and I want to take it with me, that should be my right. (with the exception of buffetts). Now I don't see myself walking around all day with a half of hamburger, and heating it up hours later, to me that is gross, but I would take home a cookie, or if we were heading back to the resort take my food for later. I will put dd's uneaten grapes, or chips in my bag because she is hungry five minutes after we eat.

I guess I am not too worried about what other people do with their leftovers. I will not eat food that has been sitting out for too long, but who am I to judge others?

Man, if I had a nickel for each Ziploc of leftover grapes or carrots. :rotfl:

Ha.

I couldn't agree with this more. Sometimes when I go out to eat I will only eat half my meal and save the rest for lunch the next day (portion control for my waist line.) I don't see any problem at all with people who do not want to waste food as long as there is a place they can keep it and it won't go bad. It is also really sad when you think about how much food is wasted in this world and at the same time so many people are starving in this world makes you realize how fortunate we are that we can choose wether we want to take left overs or not. I don't mean to be preachy it is just what goes through my head.
