DH was concerned about the reports we heard one or two threads back about jeans no longer being accepted as apart of the cruise casual dress guidelines.

I called DCL and was told that "nice" jeans are fine. This was the case when we sailed in 2008. We all know that DCL can change their story at anytime, but this is the story I got today. For packing purposes, I think this is good news.

Has anyone heard an alternate story recently?

Wow...looks like we moved into a very exclusive neighborhood. Deck 6 port side will be ROCKING! :woohoo:

Yeah, it looks like we have a ton of passengers on deck 6. I'll be lonely on 8!!

We got our cruise docs!!:cool1::banana::yay:

And Don "Ducky" Williams will be on the cruise with us!!!!!:artist::hyper:party::donald: My husband will be the one fainting because Don taught him how to draw Mickey and is the reason he is an artist at the Studios today!!!:faint:

Yay for Ducky Williams! We saw him on the WB PA cruise, and he was inspirational. I still have my mickey drawing, which came out surprisingly well. I'm hoping we also get a lithograph of his like we did on the PA cruise. I LOVE the one we got last time and it's hanging in my hallway.

Ok here is my tattoo

So pretty!! I've been thinking I might like to get a tattoo, but I have to find one that I really love first.

I saw Alice in Wonderland last night. It was very good. My three (almost 4) year old would be terrified of it though, so I'll steer her clear of it if it's playing onboard. Visually though, it was stunning.

We got NO mail yesterday, but hopefully we'll see our cruise documents today :cloud9: I did get my magic express tags for our night at the Wilderness Lodge this week AND Jetblue moved our flight around, so they were willing to bump my morning fliers into an earlier flight without any charge. This way we'll get to MCO around 11 am and have extra pool time!

WOW...I'm new to this thread, but hey, that is such a unique & creative tattoo!!

:thumbsup2

Welcome to the thread!

Very nice! Love the shading :)

Eight cruises last year and plenty of people in jeans at dinner for cruise casual. My personal observation is that they have become even more prevalent in the last year and I don't think that Disney could reign it back in even if they tried, there are lots of people wearing them and none of my navigators from last year say "no jeans".

You aren't all alone, there will be a few of us! But we are no party floor, that's for sure! :

Thanks for the insight Jeanne.

Cool about Ducky Williams. I've heard great things about him and was hoping he would be on the cruise.

I've gone to the animation drawing classes at HS - best job I did was Pooh. So I think I might be ready for a drawing class with Ducky. Just as long as I get to have an eraser on my pencil! :goodvibes

Kristi

My husband says NO ERASER FOR YOU!!! (he is sitting right here reading this)By the way do you remember who taught your class? My husband teaches those classes.

Just a couple of questions:

I've heard several different answers to this : Does castaway Cay have regular swim vests for the younger kids or just the snorkle style vests? My 5 year old isnt the strongest swimmer so a regular vest would give us all a LITTLE bit of freedom in the water and make it more enjoyable. However with the one bag per person 44lb limit on this trip I was hoping to avoid lugging one. I 1st heard only snorkle vests were available, then heard Gill's may have the regualr vests. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Also for those of you booked on the 10:45a Aer Lingus from Barcelona ( or others on early flights ) are you using Disney transfers to the airport or taking cabs etc.? Where the flight is earlier than Disney recommends i wasn't sure if their transport would deliver us in time, although it appears Disney may have also booked people on early flights via their Air program.

Finally :) ...has anyone who has received their cruise documents been surprised with another ( or first ) upgrade??

Thank you all so much for your help !!!!

Can't wait to meet you in person!!! :yay:

FIVES WEEKS TIL EMBARKATION!!

Didn't know Disney still sent paper docs. Nice touch. Haven't had those in ages. Do they have lots of info in them?

Disney has gone to a spiral-bound notebook for its docs. Includes a pocket page for your luggage tags, a vacation checklist, a vacation summary, your flight info, ground trans. info, gratuity guidelines, and ship contact info (cards to be cut and handed out [3]). The spiral is bulky for carrying in a document case but otherwise very nice.:)

Wow, I'm up to 5 posts and someone finally asked something I knew about. The spiral-bound docs came for my 1/30 cruise on the Magic. Got the old fashion kind in Sept. when I was on the Wonder.

grlzmom, looks like we are going to be neighbors (at least for one of your cabins)

Mackeymouse, It was the same room that we were upgraded to when room assignments first came out.

Is there a 44lb one bag per person rule on all flights? I'm flying US Airways and don't see that kind of restriction. And was thinking of checking 2 bags and just paying the costs.

It all depends on your airline

Thanks. I'm always impressed and very much thankful for all the info I'm getting from Dissers. Glad to be one and will be proud to wear a Dis lanyard (although with my DVC lanyard and my Castaway Club lanyard I think things are getting heavy around my neck).

According to the US Airways site you have one free checked bag up to 50 lbs, $50 fee if it's overweight, and $50 for a second bag up to 50lbs if you check it in online $55 if you wait to check it in at the airport and $100 for the third bag. This is just for flights from Europe. Domestic flights are $23 for the first bag (if you checked it online otherwise $25 at the airport), $32 for the second ($35 at the airport) and $100 for the third.

I'm booked on a 10am Delta flight through DCL and am using their transportation so I would imagine that they will have all of us there on time.

That's great!! I was thinking that it might be just as easy to use Disney transfers, instead of waiting for the cab line but I will have to price it out and check departure times.. Does DCL assign you guys a bus time to go to the airport? or do they just start at a certain time and you go down and wait in line for the next available. I just wasn't sure how this would work in Barcelona.

Heather - your tatoo looks fabulous!!! :yay:

I have always followed their guidelines from when I was onboard in 1999 ... Casual - decent jeans are okay (no rips, cut-offs, etc). Cruise Casual - a step above Casual - dockers, collared polo shirt, etc. From my understanding, the only time jeans were acceptable was embarkation day (your mileage may vary). I think a lot of people use CASUAL and CRUISE CASUAL interchangeably, but the two are entirely different.

From my vantage point, I typically do not bring jeans, other than what I might be wearing on embarkation day. If it's warm our - I wear shorts ... otherwise, I wear Khakis & Dockers (to shows, and dinner).

Aw shucks, I'm honored. If I'm the cougar queen then ya'll are in TROUBLE ... You realize this would mean I'll have to get a tiara to wear for when we take our picture

Check with Terry, as I think HE was going to wear a Cougar tiara as well! :cutie:

On my 12/09 cruise, DCL provided a nice leather/leather-type travel document portfolio as past of their Castaway Club gift package. I was GOLD CC at the time - presume they will still offer this to at least Gold & Platinum. I have mine pre-stuffed with my airline information & travel docs ... also printed my excursion info and itinerary on card stock to fit neatly inside the portfolio, so I can read at-a-glance.

We pack jeans and wear them on pirate night with pirate shirts.

An advantage to khakis & dockers is they weigh less/take up less space than jeans if luggage weight is an issue.

Maybe cruise casual vs. casual and varies by cruise line. Currently DCL website: "Dinner attire is "cruise casual," meaning no shorts, swimwear or tank tops".

My dining experience is neither enhanced or diminished by someone elses dressing up or lack thereof, but boy it can become a hot topic on the DIS :) Now if I end up with a server or assistant who is less than magical, my dining experience can definately be diminished!
