We were there on May 15th for lunch at Whispering Canyon and we took a walk to the construction area.
"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. . ." Losing the beach is perhaps my biggest sadness with the new build as that's where I first met my wife and where we, too, often went to unwind.Looks like my quiet area behind the Trout Bar will be gone
; loved watching the sunrise from here.

A.MEN.I would die of happiness if any new studios had 2 beds - even doubles - instead of one! I'd love to stay at a DVC property but refuse to sleep on a pull-out couch, dangit, and OKW doesn't appeal to me.
We are thinking of staying at WL the week prior to Christmas. To avoid a view of the construction is there a certain type of room we should reserve over another - standard vs. courtyard? When we last stayed at WL our view was of the villas. I'm going to guess this view is of cranes etc. now?
Based on your brief description of a "view of the villas," I would hazard a guess you were staying in a room in the south wing of the WL. If so, then none of those rooms will be available as those are the ones currently being renovated to DVC suites. Currently, there is a great deal of scaffolding and work happening on the south wing, so if you were to stay in a courtyard room view in the north wing, you'll see it. Of course, come December, the scaffolding may be gone. Regardless, the construction noise is minimal and the Lodge at Christmas is gorgeous. We are thinking of staying at WL the week prior to Christmas. Yes. Sigh. Just looked at our wedding pics, several of which were taken on this beach and in the nearby woods where the current staging site sits.Like this?

Beautiful... I'm assuming this was the VWL beach. I didn't have the pleasure of seeing it before vacationing at WL. So sad that this beautiful site will be gone.Like this?

New VWL (or Boulder Ridge Villas at WL, if you will) owner here... True, the sales force is not informed of the decisions... My DFamily & I were just at a Kiosk in Frontierland and the sales person wasn't aware that the new WLV and cabins were named CCVC or that the original villas are being renamed BRV. The sales person also advised me that I was buying a car without a motor when I told him my resale was submitted on 03/31/16, before the announcement by DVC that there would be a change to member benefits. When I advised him that my contract was grandfathered in, he insisted over and over again that it was not and that I was doing myself a disservice by buying resale, that I should rethink it before closing on the property. I don't blame the sales people, but I agree that they are not brought up to speed until all of the legalities have been settled.
Here now in WL courtyard room. Construction side interior is clearly gutted. (No interior walls are visible) It appears that they are just beginning to add new interior stud walls beginning nearest Bear Face end. Still handing out Pardon our Dust pins. Elevator traffic is very manageable (rarely a wait). We haven't gone looking for construction and haven't seen / heard any that is readily noticeable. Pool traffic is about normal. I assume because there is only 1 now. Questions?

As far as we know the beach will be back once the cabin construction is done
One can only hope; however, it's not the cabins which are taking over the beach but rather the new QS and patio area which can already be seen in many pics. I'm hoping there'll be some small swatches of sand when all is said and done.As far as we know the beach will be back once the cabin construction is done
~Entire bank of lobby elevators near The Mercantile are closed.
~Balcony viewing areas that face Bay Lake closed on fourth floor and fifth floors.
~Sitting area above front doors on fifth floor closed off.
Disney hasn't officially stated that the south wing will be DVC rooms which, as I understand, has to do with some timeshare legality regarding when the rooms are released. I'm sure someone will correct me if I misspoke. However, there is no known, specific timetable for when the rooms will be finished. While construction is slated to be complete in mid- to late 2017 for the entire project (AKA Copper Creek)--and I think that's being optimistic--rooms in the south wing of the Lodge may be done a bit sooner. Truly, no one knows for sure.Does anyone know how long these parts of the main building will be closed? The sitting area on the 5th floor is one of our favorite areas. Also I have not heard anything officially from Disney that anything was happening inside the main building, which is really disappointing to find out from an outside party.
We are traveling 9/30 - 10/7.
Thank you

Yes, it is frustrating, especially given how long they worked on PVB. You're welcome. That makes sense, it is just really frustrating that they are openly talking about the construction but failing to mention that anything is happening IN the building. I'm sure we will have a wonderful time, as WL is our favorite resort. Just bummed at the prospect of losing our favorite lounge space. Thank you for answering, btw![]()
