Alright!

Take into consideration I'm pretty excited about all this...just getting a DVC and now booking a bunch of stays, but I learned something today.

So, MS is looking at my account(new!!!) as I'm booking these stays and notices I have 250 points that are going to expire end of November. I acknowledge and pretty much say, "yeah, not much I can do with them. Guess they'll just expire." Figured not much chance of being able to book much in 90 days with all the stuff going on in the parks in the fall, and with a December 10 day trip coming, don't want to get burned out! Anyway he said I can bank 160 with RCI and get a week with them that I would have two years to use!!!! That was news to me! I thought the points, banked from 2008, would either have to be used or would just go away!

Now I know it's not a great use of DVC points, but something is better than nothing! I've read other people on here with similar issues...sooooo...I figured this could be news for them or for those considering the worth of a loaded contract in resale with limited time to use those points!

Good reminder. You can give 160 points to RCI as trade for a week stay and have two years to do so. What's available is another question...

When we were in Cabo this past spring we checked out the resorts that were available to trade for DVC points. They were all fabulous-we only saw the one downtown-I forget the name now, but Rentayenta stayed there and she posted a report and pictures when she returned. The others we asked our friends about and they said they were also beautiful and showed us some pictures in a real estate magazine. Good luck with your search-I'm sure you'll be able to put the points to good use!

You can only bank 160 into RCI? What if you Wanted to stay in a High/Red 2 bedroom? You would need 270 points! Couldn't you bank your entire 250 into RCI?

I was thinking the same and curious on the answer. I am thinking maybe you can bank all 250 as well. If possible, let us know if you end up banking entire 250.

You could offer them for rental, at between $10-$13 a point. Some resorts still have limited availability that may suit some vacationers. Personally I always run short so I've never had points to sell, Having to make arrangements for people does look like it's time consuming but it would be a shame to just let them expire and it could get you quite a bit of cash for your trouble. Take a peak at the rent/trade boards!

you guys are right about "banking" all the points with RCI MS said I could do all of them....160 would give me a week ...any week red or otherwise. So if I wanted, I could bank all 250. Trying to hook some friends up...tough with such short notice!

As for rentlng...never done it ..just read about....don't know if I want to step into that right of the bat! Anyway...new rent/trade board rules...I can't make a post...too new...so...no big deal.

Overall...doesn't look like too bad of a deal

If you have a Dec UY I dont think you can even give those points to someone.....wouldnt those points now fall under the Rule of 4. You can not Book and Travel in the last 4 months of your UY

You can book and travel inside that time period at a DVC resort...just not outside of the actual DVC resorts. With an exception of PPH and DLH at Disneyland; you can book and travel inside 4 months at those hotels, too.

160 will only give you the option of a week in a 1 BR. If you bank 270, add 20 more) you can have a 2 BR deposit and the option of a 2 Br. Or you could bank a 1 BR and a studio but you'd still have to add extra points to complete both.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of renting them yourself you can always sell them to a rental website. There one run by a guy named dave. His website is something like dave's dvc rental.
