Bought a Brick in 1996 at MK....

on our Honeymoon. When we bought it, they said that they were building a walkway around the entire lagoon, and the bricks were going on that. The next time we went down, we found our brick on the pathway from MK towards the GF. We realized then that they never connected up that walkway to the GF.......it just ends.

Does anyone know why they never went all the way around? It doesn't make any difference to us, because we know our brick won't ever get worn out :thumbsup2 . I don't think anyone (except maybe the others who have bricks out that way) uses that walkway, and it's kind of neat because we know that we will always have a nice, quiet walk down to our brick - away from whatever crowd is at MK that day.

Just curious!

From the MK entrance walking toward the GF there is a small creek that is used to store the floats for the Electric Water Pageant so there would need to be a bridge built that is tall enough for these floats to go under. I believe this is also one of the highest points on the monorail (going over the creek entrance). If you ever see an aerial view of the MK you will notice that this creek also feeds around to the MK so they may occasionally use the creek to get equipment in and out thereby making a bridge not feasible since it would need to be very high.

There would not necessarily need to be a TALL bridge (couldn't do that anyway, wouldn't be handicapped accessable due to the steep inclines).
But it COULD be a DRAW-BRIDGE (they have one in Epcot to move the IllumiNations barges into/out of the lagoon.)
But it would be very difficult and EXPENSIVE to build on that soft earth there.

The OTHER side of the "loop" would need to go UNDER the present "water bridge" and that is a very LOW, steep walk.
Also very narrow and constantly busy with MK resort buses, Contemporary transportaion buses, many types of service trucks and guests driving cars to/from Contemporary.

So the "lake problems" would make the full-walkway loop impractical (and it was just as impractical when they proposed it.)

I always asked how they would DO it.

They DIDN'T.

I have no idea why it is not "finished".

But I just wanted to say HI NEIGHBOR! DH & I bought out first brick in 1996 on our wedding planning trip to Disney. Our's is also on the pathway towards the GF. It is "beach front property". :thumbsup2

Wow - they must of stuck all us 96'ers down that end. I agree, ours is near the beach, and I like it down there! It always feels like we're sneaking behind the scenes or something when we start to walk down that path to the brick :rotfl2: - the sidewalk to nowhere!

Thanks to all of you who replied - I figured that it had something to do with that water way there. Our next trip to see the brick is two weeks away!!!!!!!!!!!
