Is anyone else here bothered that some signatures/pictures are blantant political statements either bashing the President of the United States or his opponent?

Things like "Worst President Ever" or "War hero when convenient" seem out of place (IMHO) on a vacation club message board. Why would someone want to offend half the population. To me, this is uglier than the OKW v. BWV room size debates.

Can't we all just get along?

I have to agree with you! Does everything have to be about politics? It does change my opinion of someone when I see that they are so opposed to things that I firmly believe in, OKW vs. whoever is controversy enough for me (I own at BCV!)

Add me to the bandwagon here. Most of us were fortunate enough to be raised to understand that religion and politics are best left out of social discussions.

Again, most of us.....

Yep, religion is another one of them. One of the reasons I don't visit the community board quite as much as I used to is that there is so much discussion that has nothing to do with Disney, and I have moral issues with a lot that is being discussed, so I just stick to the "mostly Disney talk" forums. I understand freedom of speech and the like, but I don't want to feel angry after dissing!

I totally agree! It's one thing when a poster includes a political banner in their signature showing their party affiliation but quite another when it gets downright nasty and rude, which some of these have.

I've expressed my concern to the moderators on several occasions.

I feel very strongly about my political view, but this is not the place to express them. I just want to have fun writing and reading without having it be an issue.

It bothers me too. I have very strong political leanings but I leave them off of the boards. I hope the moderators are watching this thread.

That's why I disable the display of signatures, avatars and images in user posts - saves bandwidth and aggravation!

Honestly, they don't bother me because I just ignore them. I do have a problem with the fact that the moderators strip posts out of threads due to political content yet allow all of these signatures to stay. That is just plain silly. Either political comments are allowed or not - it shouldn't depend on where they are in your post.

I can't stand politics so you won't see any from me.

I'm only annoyed by those that differ from my own opinion. Can we remove those please? LOL

Seriously, I don't like many of them, but I'd hate for the boards to have to regulate those even more. It is a way of expressing things we feel strongly about. Isn't freedom of speech kind of what America, and these boards, is about. (As long as it's not obscene, etc.) Do I have less respect fro the adviceof some people after seeing their sig? yeah. But, they put it out there knowing that risk.

If you really get that worked up over signatures, you can always turn them off.

I agree, I'm not bashful about posting my opinions, but I'm so tired of politics, and obviously no one is changing the mind of anyone else.

I'll be the first to disagree. As you can see I don't have a political signature or any signature at all for that matter. My political beliefs don't matter one bit to my contribution to this community.

This community is no different to me than my neighborhood or my workplace. Political, religious, my resort is better than you resort beliefs abound and I find signatures expressing a particular point of view reasonable. Whether it be a lawn sign, bumber sticker, etc...if I don't agree I move on.

Personal attacks leveled against individual posters on this board are another issue altogether. The personal attackers and disrespectful posters seem to have disappeared over that last few months or so. Good riddance. Thank you moderators.

Count me in on this one !!! I don't care about anyone's politics. I just want to share my Disney experiences with others that want to share theirs.

To me these boards are an excape from the politics, now it seems to be creeping in. Get rid of ALL political banners is what I say !!!

Aloha!:wave2:

Some of the negativity is extreme...

BUT....as a history teacher, I am thrilled to see this much interest in our political process after so many years of apathy! Please ask your kids to get involved, too!::yes::

Remember, it's government 'OF the people, BY the people and FOR THE PEOPLE'!::yes:: THAT's US, even if we are DVC neighbors!!!:teeth:

Just try to ignore the signatures if they are bothersome...or try to realize this is our DEMOCRACY in action...a BEAUTIFUL thing!:sunny:

Yes, add me to the list! ITA mikeymars!

TheBellhop...I love your signature...huge Tori fan here!

 Hi Luckymommyx2! Not many Tori fans on the DIS so I'm happy to see a fellow Tori lover!

I do not agree.

First of all, I disagree with the implication that it's patriotic to support President Bush and unpatriotic to fail to support him. The idea that it's patriotic to take either position safely is central to what makes us a free country.

Second of all, I don't think there is any forum on the planet where political expression is inappropriate. I think, for example, that Linda Ronstadt's comments at that Las Vegas casino were tacky and witless. But I'm sure the casino would not have come down on her for "making political statements during the show" if she'd said something that supported the Republican party. She should not have been escorted out, and the people who rioted in the lobby should have been. She exercised free speech, while they destroyed property.

We cannot hope to defend freedom elsewhere in the world if we fail to defend it here, and that includes postings on the DIS board.
