Bothered by Political Signatures

Im sure I'm the one that someone dislikes for having a picture of Bush in my signature. I don't think I would ever put a picture of just him in there but hey it's ME too in the picture. And it's been there long before this campaign heated up. At my age I'll take any picture of me that is halfway decent. (my birthday is tomorrow so I'm really feeling old).

Someone complained about your pic? I think it's a cool picture how many people actually have a picture with the President?! Happy Birthday!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned... Democracy is a wonderful thing, but this board is not ruled by Democracy. This is an international board. Yes, free speech still reigns, but it is a tad ethnocentric of us to believe that all of this matters to everyone on the boards.

As for me, I don't mind the political ads, as long as they're respectful. I caught heat on that ROFR board for complimenting someone's sig - saying "Nice sig"... that started the whole darn thing.

Oh well. Only a few months left and hopefully the right man for the job will win.

Sherri :)

While I personally would not put something in my signature that was negative about the other side, it doesn't really affect me that others do.

When people start foaming at the mouth and getting rabid (and often totally irrational) in their posts (and yes this doesn't just happen from one side) - I always picture that these people are the types who would go on the Jerry Springer show. So the next time you read of someone just going ballistic - just think of them as some total loser on Jerry Springer ripping off their clothes and throwing their ugly bodies around. (and laugh) Works for me!

As you can guess, I LOVE your picture, and wish I had one!
And, Happy Birthday to You!!!:D

God Bless America and President Bush!!

To be honest religion and politics don't have a place on boards like this, well since they closed the debate board that is. First of all everyone is on one side or the other and to them, the other side is always wrong so I think it's just a problem waiting to happen and second if those 2 subjects are so important to others to discuss then they should go to a board that enjoys such matters. After all, that is why these board were created, our love for all that is Disney.

I know this sounds very one sided but sometimes it's hard to have others shoving their thoughts about politics or about their religion when these board are about Disney and Vacations. When If I ever what to discuss those subjects, I'd go to those boards.

But then.... I could be wrong!!

Thank you VERY much for all of the compliments - I'll be 58 tomorrow. My sister is only 46 and she will give me a really hard time tomorrow!

I think one of the reasons that I am more tolerant than some is that I have very close friends and relatives who disagree with me politicially - and I still love them bunches.

Wow -- you look GREAT!!!!

And, since it's after midnight where I am now, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, arminnie!!

P.S. -- I've got to admite that GWB looks kinda good in that picture, too!

:D

Personally, and IMHO, peoples' signatures don't affect me whether I agree with them or not. I think their opinions/signatures are an extension and expression of who they are and I think everyone has every right to put what they want there. If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to read it and they can just scroll on by. That's freedom of speech. I understand that whatever someone has put on their sig might not matter to someone else, but it must matter enough to that individual for them to put it there. and I agree that sigs should be respectful and in good taste.

Most of the time, I just read what's on the thread :)

I just realized the downside of disabling the sigs; I can't see my own counter anymore!

Hmm, I'll have to debate the pros and cons awhile now.....

I have no problem with the Bush '04 or Kerry '04, pictures with the Prez, etc. I even have no problem with the slash over the W, or "worst President ever," and still wouldn't even if it was a Kerry pic that said worst candidate ever. Just as I have no problem with certain anti-Kerry things I've read, even though I've strongly disagreed. Those are opinions for or against candidates who put themselves up to lead us. We have a right to judge them and chose who we support and even who we will not support and thats fine. What gets me are the comments against people of certain parties. I am a democrat and I would certainly never make snide comments or presume to site (in a short tagline, nonetheless) the reasons behind anyones vote. My choice for President is based on my personal beliefs and life experience (and not that its easier then working!) and as much as I disagreed with it I would never, even as a joke, insinuate that another voters choice wasn't as equally thoughtful or personal to them.

...And I do not mean to call that person out about the not working line, thats just the one that stands out as bugging me. Its not something I'll dwell on or let get to me on any deep kind of level. Its just not something I'd do. I don't want to ignore all the sigs cause I love seeing all the happy pics and counters. :D

I feel most sorry for those who "lose respect" for the posts of others who have differing views from theirs politically. If you can't get along with people who don't agree with you 100%, you're really limiting your life. Just because someone likes a candidate that you don't, anything else he/she says is wrong? That's completely ridiculous.

I loved arminnie's point about how she has good friends that disagree with her, but she loves them bunches. That shows a class act.

As you can see however, I don't put politics in my sig (no bumper stickers on the car either), but that's a personal choice and I don't really care what others put in their sigs so long as they don't take up half a page which is kind of annoying.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chris Matthews: "Are you one of the anti-war candidates?"
Kerry: "I am - Yeah." (MSNBC’s "Hardball," 1/6/04)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post whatever you want but be accurate. I feel obligated to inform you that Chris Matthews is "fighting mad" over this as the RNC ( and you ) feel it's OK to take a three word snippet out of a detailed response and use it as fodder. Talk about manipulating a statement. "I am- yeah" was merely Kerrys lead in. Please view this link from MSNBC for the COMPLETE story and the COMPLETE quote. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5727982/

What about the rest of the quotes? I don't hear you disputing them. Anybody can find one quote taken out of context or some people like Michael Moore can make an entire movie based on snipets and misquotes.

Just wanted to re-post what Trinity says here....It's kinda nice to see someone with a little class about it ::yes:: It's a shame a few people on this thread couldn't learn something from you. I attack the president's performance, and they attack me personally  ...Like I said, it's a shame a few of them couldn't pick up on your classy statement and learn something.

That's exactly the problem. As someone else said, the right hits and hits and hits and then when someone finally responds in kind, they call foul. If someone finds responses to attacks offensive enough to post about it, you'd think they'd find the original attack offensive too.

And this post is the perfect example...

Wow...this post says it all....neener, neener, neener....I touched you last....

Your comments completely ignore the wrong that was done first and only goes after the response to it.

I think this post has led to an interesting line of posts (I won't call it a debate since this is not a debate forum).

The bottom line - as I see it - is that folks who can articulate why they are for a candidate will more than likely go out and vote for that candidate - and that is a good thing.

Free speach is not oppressed by respecting the highest office this country has - regardless of which person or party is currently inhabiting that office.

I don't disrespect the office, I disrespect the man holding that office, and those that he surrounds himself with (for the most part...not all of them are bad guys). People like Karl Rove literally nauseate me when they complain about being attacked while having Republican callers in a southern state tell people that a rival (John McCain) has a black baby, trying to stir up racial hatred against that rival. To me, the ultimate disrespect to the office of the presidency is allowing that kind of thing to go on under it's auspices. The ultimate disrespect, in the end, is allowing that office to stay in the hands of people that do not quibble to intimidate, denegrate, or otherwise run over any person offering an opposing view.

SOME WORDS OF WISDOM TO THINK UPON....:D

PRESIDENT TEDDY ROOSEVELT (Republican):

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public”. (1918)
