Bothered by Political Signatures

There are places NOT to get in everyone's face with your beliefs.

You know that strong feeling you just have to post a big obnoxious sign indicating you believe in something? That feeling you give in to because you're angry inside? Makes you feel good about yourself cause you think you're better than someone else? Or more perceptive? Or smarter?

Well I have that too and I've learned when to ignore it. And when to express it. (For the most part.)

It's like emotional POTTY TRAINING. So when someone tells you to go sit on the potty and not dump all over this forum, you may want to consider the advice. Such big boys and girls that you are!!

Since so many posts seem to be aimed at me on this thread, I'll address it. I once had a political ad in my sig, and deleted it in favor of a picture of my daughter. Well, one of the people I disagree with on the political threads apparently decided that my signature was too big, so they reported it (it was, but only slightly, and it could have been handled a helluva lot better). Upon my next trip to these boards, I found the same person with their signature insulting Democrats, so I changed mine to what you see below.

I have no problem changing it to something else, believe me. But as long as I see that "Vote Democrat...It's easier than working" crap it will stay as it is until the administrators tell me it needs to be changed.

Sorry you guys can't seem to look past that, but oh well. It's no skin off my nose if people that aren't reading political threads get upset if I occassionally post on a fluff thread.

this post from earlier today would indicate that the sig you are now referring to was a response to your sig
You're the one that confused. wvrevy has a sweet little girl in his signature line.
And you know very well that some time back he had a signature line that said, as I recall, "Vote Republican, it's easier than thinking". That was long before you made the changes to it and proclaimed how original you were.

if that was true, why was your sig OK, but theirs crap as you call it...

Wvrevy was just asking to argue with somebody.

A big sign or sarcastic talk like you just displayed in your last sentence are no different. It appears that you didn't learn when to ignore it.

Wow...this post says it all....neener, neener, neener....I touched you last....

Oh, the political signatures must stay, if only for the entertainment value. It's endlessly amusing watching our two-party system dupe otherwise rational people into behaving like raving lunatics.

I can't relate to the unbridled passion of these people but I suppose, at least for some of them, it's easier than thinking for yourself.

I do not agree.

First of all, I disagree with the implication that it's patriotic to support President Bush and unpatriotic to fail to support him. The idea that it's patriotic to take either position safely is central to what makes us a free country.

Second of all, I don't think there is any forum on the planet where political expression is inappropriate. I think, for example, that Linda Ronstadt's comments at that Las Vegas casino were tacky and witless. But I'm sure the casino would not have come down on her for "making political statements during the show" if she'd said something that supported the Republican party. She should not have been escorted out, and the people who rioted in the lobby should have been. She exercised free speech, while they destroyed property.

We cannot hope to defend freedom elsewhere in the world if we fail to defend it here, and that includes postings on the DIS board.

Where did the original poster say it was unpatriotic to not support the president? Actually she (he, sorry don't know) said that the negative messages for each candidate was bothersome. I agree but alas I've been on that bandwagon (respect) for a while now and keep being told it's because I'm for Bush. Granted I have seen more anti-Bush than anti-Kerry banners but I don't see why either is needed. If you like a particular candidate, great! Why not share something wonderful about your candidate? You know that old saying that you'll get more bees with honey.........

Now, something caught my eye in an earlier post.....Somebody said I could change the settings so that noone's signatures will show up for me? Is that correct? Please someone expand. I thought if I disabled whatever it only disabled my signature stuff.

You can put them on your ignore list and I've found out that that comes in handy alot!;)

Just ignore them I don't even notice them at all anymore honestly why do people even care what another person posts in their signature.

Some people want a disney character in their signature -- some people want a celebrity -- what's the difference? I guess we're all trying to show our personalities. "<b>This is who I am. I like Eeyore. I like Tom Cruise. I like Kerry.</b>. Why do people have bumper stickers? Or screen savers with stuff they like on it?

Aunt Polly, it seems many aren't saying not to include any signatures or pictures, but why the negative ones. In your example you said you liked Eeyore. Would you put a picture of Eeyore in your posts or a picture of Pooh with a slash thru him like the "No smoking" signs? That is the difference, at least as I see it.

While I personally would not put something in my signature that was negative about the other side, it doesn't really affect me that others do.

I'm sure I'm the one that someone dislikes for having a picture of Bush in my signature. I don't think I would ever put a picture of just him in there but hey it's ME too in the picture. And it's been there long before this campaign heated up. At my age I'll take any picture of me that is halfway decent. (my birthday is tomorrow so I'm really feeling old).

When people start foaming at the mouth and getting rabid (and often totally irrational) in their posts (and yes this doesn't just happen from one side) - I always picture that these people are the types who would go on the Jerry Springer show. So the next time you read of someone just going ballistic - just think of them as some total loser on Jerry Springer ripping off their clothes and throwing their ugly bodies around. (and laugh) Works for me!

Arminnie I was going to say this in the over 40 thread but I got sidetracked. You look beautiful! If you can look that good, who cares how old you are. Happy Birthday! Enjoy it! You seem like a person that enjoys herself every day -- I've always liked your posts-- and I really like you!

I never noticed anyone's signature until people started complaining about them. I guess I like the comparison to bumper stickers. I see some that I think are really dumb, but figure...hey if that's the signal they chose to send, who cares?

I don't know -- If someone wants to start some kind of anti-Alice movement and put it into their sig I guess I'm OK with it -- I'd be quite curious about the motivation, but, hey, whatever floats your boat!

I don't mind them at all. I usually only pay attention to the song lyrics or pictures of the DIS children or Dis pets anyway. :)

Now TheBellhop's flashing, whirling, spinning signature and those like it, drive me nuts! ;) :p

Thank you VERY much for all of the compliments - I'll be 58 tomorrow. My sister is only 46 and she will give me a really hard time tomorrow!

I think one of the reasons that I am more tolerant than some is that I have very close friends and relatives who disagree with me politicially - and I still love them bunches.

Go to User Control Panel, Edit Options, Thread View Options, Show User's Signature in Their Posts. Click "no", submit modifcations, voila!

I don't really mind the sigs. I already have a mental ignore on a lot of them anyway - long before the election! Long ones with every date of every trip, big pics, anything that moves a lot...

Well I think we all should join together and put something in our sigs bashing the DVC Board for disrespecting us on the CB!!

;)

:hyper: :hyper:

Huge hugs to katerkat! I've changed my settings and now I'm a happy girl. Nope, it doesn't take much!
