A bit OT here but need some advice on the best way to get to Logan from Cape Cod (SouthShore) with all the detours due to the tunnel connector being closed. I am picking my son up on 11/22 at 9:30pm and know that the airport will be insane. Having already done the detours a couple of times when we flew to MCO this fall and seen what a nightmare it can be on a regular day I am wondering if there is a easier way to get to Logan. I am originally from the North Shore and have wondered if it would be easier to go over the Mystic River Bridge and go to Logan that way. Am I correct that there is a road that will bring me to the rotary on 1A in Revere that I can take? I have not lived up there for almost 40 years so I am a little foggy on the roads but am thinking this may be faster and at least easier than all the detours. Any advice will be appreciated.

If your son is old enough, I would HIGHLY reccommend that he take the Logan Express bus to Braintree, and you can pick him up in Braintree. That way you avoid ALL the holiday Logan traffic.

Here's the link to the Braintree Logan Express page:

Braintree Logan Express

I don't know if it would be faster, but here's how you would do it. Take the bridge to Route 1 then take Route 60 toward Revere. You will see 2-3 rotaries: one immediately off the exit from Rte 1 by the movie theater in Revere (follow signs for Rte 60 Revere), one halfway (follow sign to airport/Rte 60 Revere) then it will bring you to Bell's Circle which is not really a rotary just a really screwy traffic circle. I don't remember what the signs say, but you would want to take a right to head onto 1A which will bring you right to Logan.

I live on the North Shore so I take 1A to Logan. I'm not really sure what Boston traffic looks like these days.

Good luck!

Have you checked the airport's website www.flylogan.com ?

Here's the 'getting to and from' directions link http://www.massport.com/logan/getti_direc.html

I second the "Braintree Logan Express" suggestion - it'll cost $11 one way, $20 round trip.

There are no closed tunnels or roads, but afaik, the connector tunnel to the Ted Williams tunnel is still only one lane heading toward Logan.

If you do choose to take the Tobin Bridge (but really, the alternate directions in the link above make more sense), there are two BIG orange signs at the center span directing airport-bound drivers to take the upcoming exit and follow the signs. If you choose this option, stay to the right - it's a LOT easier to exit from that lane than to cut across three lanes... not that this would stop a TRUE Massachusetts driver ;)

But one MORE time, I'm going to endorse the Logan Express option. Buses come every half hour, they pick up at each terminal (you tell me which airline, I'll tell you as best I can where the pickup is), and the drivers use the most efficient route to the destination, whether that's the airport or the depot.

Another vote for the Logan Express to Braintree. I suppose that if you really have your heart set on meeting DS when he arrives, you could take the Express yourself from Braintree, meet him and then take it back...about $30 for both of you.

Thanks for all the info....I have checked both the websites mentioned and on our previous trips to Logan followed those directions. The traffic on the surface streets in Boston was so bad (partly because of all the detoured traffic) that it took almost an hour to get from 93 exit to the airport!! As great as the idea of the Braintree/Logan Express is....coming from the Cape I will have to allow major amount of time to get up there ( I am not one to cut it close for arrival times) and would rather wait inside the airport than a parking lot in Braintree (I know I'll be thinking of you when I am sitting in traffic!!!) Plus my son is coming in from Vermont via NY (JFK) and who knows how that flight will go.....could be a late arrival. Maybe the Feds will sign off on the connector before Wednesday!!

Driving to Logan from the Cape isn't that bad anymore. You now get off the SE Expressway at exit 18 and follow the signs along the old Haul Road to the entrance to the Ted Williams Tunnel. Really not a bad route.

Another vote for Logan Express. I've done both, drive and park at airport, and take Logan Express. I like Logan Express when I travel with my kids by myself.

I am also a North Shore native now living on the South Shore. I work in Boston and sit in that traffic all the time so I can sympathize.

I wouldn't recommend going up to the North Shore to get to Logan. Just go through the Ted Williams tunnel as OKW Lover said, it's fairly simple that way.

FWIW, for the past several years we've used Green Airport in RI instead of Logan. It's so much easier and more pleasant, especially with the new Rt 44 connection from the South Shore.

Good luck. :shamrock:

Go thru the TW's tunnel, I believe one lane is open!

If you miss the exit or become confused, take the Storrow drive exit, last one before you exit tunnel. follow the signs at Leveritt Circle, will feed you back into the tunnel going 93 southbound and the airport exit will be either first on second on right. thru the old tunnel Calahan or Sumner ...
you will also see signs guiding you to airport. :teeth:
No need come up to north shore. :teeth:
