I just bought some pins off of ebay. I went to PinPics to list them and found that two of them are boot leg. I am concerned that other pins I have purchased from this Seller are bootlegs. I have emailed him and I am awaiting a response. How can I tell if a pin is a bootleg pin? If it is listed on PinPics as a Disney pin (and not a bootleg) can I feel safe that it is a tradeable pin? I would be mortified if i traded a pin and it turned out to be a bootleg pin.

Any help/reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Penny

...a pin that *looks* like it was made by Disney but really isn't. That being said, some bootlegs are rather nice-looking & you still might be able to trade them with other pintraders, always with the recipient's understanding that the pins are not authentic Disney, but are bootleg (kind of like those "Rolex" offers that come into your e-mail inbox or those "Chanel" bags that are sold on a street corner...)

A "fantasy" pin is something else altogether... Take another look at PinPics and DizPins for any pintrading terms that might be a little hard to understand - I think that at least one of those sites has a glossary.

Sorry about your pins not being what was promised -

The seller apologized and offered me 2 other pins in their place. I am pleased with the result, but still wish I knew how to tell bootlegs from regular pins. I like both of the bootleg pins and I am keeping them for my own collection. I was just wondering if there was a way of telling them apart?
Thanks, Penny

Some Boot legs Pins are easier to tell than others. Most pins that are listed on Ebay do not try and hide the fact that they are in fact not legit Disney Pins. If the sellers Auction did not state that these pins were not Boot or at least mention that they were not authorized by Disney then I would be careful when dealing with them again. One reason that we provide PinPics is so that there is ALWAYS a source to go to if you are in doubt or confusion about whether a Pin is Legit. In Person most are easy to distinguish because they don't have a copyright on the back but some of the more recent ones are even going so far as to make up stories about them put Cast Exclusive on the back to try and sell them before PinPics or Dizpins finds out about the pins and gets confirmation from Disney on whether they are in fact legit. Go reread the auctions and see how they presented the pin to you for sale. If you feel that they were dishonest in their presentation in of the pin to you please feel email me the info on the auctions. Or email me if you have any questions.

The best thing that we can say is number one always check PinPics before you buy a pin that you haven't seen or heard of before on Ebay. And Number 2 when going trading in person take a quick look at the last 50 or so bootlegs added to pinpics so you will have a general idea of the most recent ones out there. In person especially with trading people try and be honest about what they are trading but this is NOT always so.
