The title says it all, if I book a DCL cruise through one of the online booking sites like Expedia, will it still be interest free for 6 months? The Chase site says it is "through your travel agent". Does anyone have experience?

Thanks!

I haven’t booked DCL through a third-party booking site like Expedia. I’m going to say it will depend on how the charge shows up - would it appear on your statement as DCL or as Expedia? It’s been a while, but last time I booked a hotel through a third-party the charge showed as payment to the booking site, not the hotel chain. Unless Expedia and/or cruises are handled differently, I wouldn’t expect it to qualify for the Disney Visa financing offer.

Most TAs pass payment info directly to DCL, so the charge is never listed as Costco or DU or whatever. Those will qualify for the financing offer.

Enjoy your cruise!

I'm not sure you can book DCL through Expedia and what advantage there would be. It's not like a hotel where you can get discounted rooms or something. DCL's price is it's price. Am I wrong?

I agree. Not to mention that they are a LOT harder to go through for anything (and other than when you can do online check-in and schedule excursions/activities you WILL have to go through them for everything) than using a TA or just booking it yourself.

I have booked with my Disney Visa through Expedia several times. The key to making sure you get your 6 months free is to tell the Expedia agent to make sure they let DCL know the visa you are using is Disney’s when they put you on hold to call DCL themselves. You also have to pay the entire cruise on that card, to include your down payment. Happy cruising!

Is that an Expedia rule or something? It is not a Disney Visa requirement, unless it’s new. Any individual payment over $100 has qualified for the 0% financing. You can pay as much or as little of the full amount using Disney Visa; other payments simply won’t have the same financing offer (obviously).

Or are you thinking of the old Disney Visa $50 OBC offer, which did require the full cruise to be paid with the Disney Visa? This offer is no longer available.

Enjoy your cruise!

Do yourseslf a favor and never book through a 3rd party site like Expedia. You are doing nothing but creating headaches for yourself.

they can’t do a thing for you and hotels, cruises, airlines etc have zero reason to help them when they call. Book it directly. if you want to use a good travel agent, go ahead.

But 3rd party sites.... Run away!

Hmm saving money off your hotel room is a headache? I always use third party sites to book international hotels rooms. The price is always a lot less and they almost always offer promo codes. I've used Orbitz and undercover tourist many times at WDW. I also use them occasionally on domestic rooms. Millions of people use third party sites without problems. Is there going to be the occasional screw up? Yes and those are usually the ones you read about. Not the millions of transactions that happen everyday with out even a hiccup of trouble.

I made a huge mistake booking thru Expedia on our first cruise. Never again. Now we use Costco for the 11.5% return (both the 8.5% cash card and 2% exec membership). They dont actually charge anything, it is charged thru DCL. With that, it should be interest free.

There is no reason to keep a booking with DCL, you give up way too much money. There is no reason you need to call them other than to change rooms or dates. On our next 2 cruises we get a $1045 cash card, and then another $220 at the end of the year. I havent found any other TA that could match that.

Expedia (and Orbitz) both had better OBC offers than any travel agent. Also, through Ebates, I get 10% back using Expedia. Because I'm booking a guaranty rate with restrictions, there is no need to call them as nothing can be changed. Once we get to 105 days, I can make all my onboard plans myself......just wondering about the 6 months interest free, but we opted to use another card (with which we also get cash back).

Sounds like you got a good deal.
