How far in advance can you usually book a room on cash with the member discount? I know it isn't offered all the time, but how far in advance is it reasonable/necessary to try? Am I likely to have better luck finding this close to the date I want, or do I need to be looking waaaay in advance--like eleven to seven months out? :confused3

I already booked 2 nights BCV cash disc at the end of the Food & Wine festival

Our last trip we booked one of our rooms with the member discount at SSR 10 months out.

I've booked 11 months out and I've booked at 3 days out. It all depends on availability. I've always gotten it when I've wanted it- usually for weekend nights.

Are you booking these cash rooms with the DVC discount through CRO? If not, how/who are you booking the rooms through?

I would prefer to not use my points for the weekend nights and book a DVC room with the DVC discount. If I do this though and then book 5 nights of points for the weeknights, will I be able to stay in the same room or will I have to move? I assume I would have to move but just curious.

To add to this point......Can/do you book these cash rooms when you are booking your original points ressie? Are there any 11 and 7mo. isssues with this?

You book member discounts through Member Services. There are no home resort booking advantages. The discount is subject to availablity. You can book them anytime you wish.

If you ask them to link the cash reservation with the points reservation, you should not have to move, given of course same room size.

If you do the DDP and you have a linked reservation you will be required to purchase the DDP for the entire stay.

Do you have to move? The one time I tried to book with the Member discount, I was on a points stay and needed it for the weekends. MS told me there was a possibility that I would have to move. We were in a two bedroom with 8 people, I just wasn't sure it was worth the hassle of moving. How many have had to move or it that a slight possibility?

I think they say "possibility" just to cover themseves-we've combined cash nights and points nights, and we've never had to move. One time, certain nights weren't available on points, but they were available on member cash. We booked half and half, but once we got to the resort, we never knew which nights were which, it was just one stay.

Well, This will sure help me in the future! I moaned over those 120 points for 2 nights stay. I said," That's 10 days in a studio at certain times of the year". I finallly had to get a grip and get over it. We were on my grandson's school schedule, the weekend was in the middle of our stay. Thanks for the info.:thumbsup2

There are some villas you cannot get for cash - BW view, standard view at BWV, dedicated with two queen beds at BCV for example. If you had a points reservation in one of those and added a member cash night, it would not be in one of those room since those are points only. So you would have to move.

We've never had to move either, and we've been combining points and cash for years. Member Services always says it's a possibility, but the front desk never has even brought it up when we've checked in.

I'm not saying that what happen to me is what usually happens I only have this experience to go with but....

Jan 2007 I was able to get one night ( Sat night ) 1 bedroom standard view room on cash. I had asked about a members discount and was told it would never happen . Discounts are only on non BW view preferred rooms.

But I was able to get a STD view on cash , I needed those Sat night points for 3 nights this summer.

We have never paid cash, what kind of discount do you get? Is it better than other discounts that are available to certain groups?
