Booking with AP Discount before getting AP

I currently have our resort stay for August with each of the four of us having a 6-Day Park Hopper Plus tickets. My currently plan is to upgrade to a Platinum AP upon arrival to Disney Springs on our first afternoon. Is there a way to update my reservation to include an AP discount now even though I haven't yet purchased one but will be for my stay?

For reference, per Mousesavers, in 2017 AP discounts that went through 8/31 were released 4/4/17, although this could obviously differ in 2018 - TBD.

Also for those that don’t know, AP discounts are always subject to availability - just like any Disney discount/promotion.

To expand on the bold, while in 2017 the discount was released 4/4, in 2018 the last discount was over a month late and was just released about a week ago. I'd sort of expect the next discount to be rather late too. Don't expect to see it next week

I've never been an AP holder before, so I'm new to this. Is the discount promotion very scarce, such as for select resorts/room types or does is it generally pretty open?

It's not really very different than the GP discount, in terms of availability (not in my experience anyway)

It can really vary by resort, room type, time of year, etc. Sometimes I find them abundant, sometimes it’s more scarce, sometimes I can’t find any availability. Really just depends on how much Disney thinks they need to dangle an incentive to fill rooms during certain times of the year.

Anecdotally, I do tend to find AP discounts during the summer months more readily available, but it really just depends on the details. Disclaimer, most of my experience is with the Deluxes, I can’t comment on availability at the Mods and Values.

I have a feeling that was because of the new parking fees. The new offer came out right after the new fees took effect. They didn't want people booking before the 21st. Still hoping for sooner rather than later.

It depends on the resort and what time of year you are looking for. They will only offer a discount if they have unsold rooms.

Not the AP offer. The latest AP discount came out February 13th, well before the parking fees announcement, much less took effect.
