Booking TDR Hotels

People still print things?!

Anyway, that’s only important to match your passport when flying, or other transportation. You’ll be fine.
hah, thanks!

I legit had a small flex binder in Greece with our itinerary, confirmations, activities. It was a great clutch for my anxiety in case my phone had any issues pulling up stuff, and my dad (who I definitely take after) loved it

To book Fantasy Springs, I think you'll have to be on right at booking time 6 months out and do a package. If you want to do longer than two nights, a split stay may work out better.

I used Chrome and a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, and it worked on the first try.
The packages aren't available 6 months out. Approximately 5 months out, TDR will announce a date when they will release an entire month's worth of packages to be reserved. The date is published several days in advance. We're east coast US and the packages opened at 2AM our time. FS packages went really fast. Other packages were available longer.

NOTE - this is how the packages are working as of now. It could change in the future!

Cost, paying up front, cancellation fees start at 21 days vs 14 days for room only. I did the math and I think I figured the premium is in the realm of $300USD per person per night. Split across two park days, in my opinion it just makes it similar to US park prices. It’s more than just convenience imo because it allows you to book passes ahead of time that don’t count towards what you book once you’re in the park, so it essentially gives you 2-3 extra passes per day that aren’t subject to cool off periods (time between making bookings). For someone traveling from overseas with limited time I found it worth it. And of course with the current package you get unlimited rides with short waits on the new rides which is very valuable. If you have small kids who like to reride things it’s hard to beat that. Or adults that are kids at heart. :rolleyes1
So the downside is a worse cancellation policy, plus the packages cost more?

I never booked WDW packages, just room only, but in this case it looks like it's easier to get a room on-property if one books a package.

Do you have more autonomy about which park you go to which day if you don't book a package?

And the popular rooms are usually easier to book as VPs. I ended up choosing to do a split stay between Toy Story our first night and Miracosta.our next 2 nts. I ended up booking TS as a VP because we were not arriving until 12-1:00 that first day. Without the pre-booked passes in the VP, I knew we wouldn't get any that day since they sell out pretty early (at least pre-FS they did). I think it was about $300ish more total without factoring in the free drinks, popcorn and passes.

There is no flexibility at all with the VPs. All VPs do TDS the first day and DL the second day. If you book the 2 nt VP, it is TDS the third day.

So if I am understanding it, a VP does not let you do two days at Disneysea and not go to DL at all, right? So a VP would not work for us then. This is all very confusing and stressful. LOL

Correct, a 1 nt VP will give you one day at each park. A 2 nt VP will give you two days at TDS but with DL inbetween.

My two night VP starts with Disneyland, then DS FS Magic, then DS. It starts in a week and a half. I definitely could not choose the park days.
This is what I've seen too for the two night, three day.

Checking day. Disneyland
Day 2. Fs passport st DLS
Day 3. DLS. If you're staying at fsh or.mc, you get happy entry to DLS.

Pricing out for 4 adults, and dpa costs for the preselects....still about 800$ more than a la carte. Vp being about 3800$

I think 3 day packages are definitely a bit of a tough sell for value but 2 day is where the sweet spot is. Then a room only on last night in same room and submit inquiry form to stay in same room. By that third park day I was a pro at making passes so I didn’t need the pre booked selections to do well.

Such a dumb question, and I'm kicking myself a bit...

I'm the lead guest (only guest, really, since they didn't ask for others) on our package. I just realized my passport has my first, middle, and last name on it. I only used first and last for the package. Will that be a problem picking it up? Seems like you can't change that without cancelling and rebooking, either. I hope it's ok

EDIT - text on TDR's page makes it sound like it's the pre-package email, passport, or other docs. And since I'm obsessive about printing everything hopefully we'll be ok.

I never use my middle names and have no issues. In Texas, the DL can only have have 1 middle name, but my passport has 2. I just use first and last, since those always match. I don’t even remember a middle name option for my packages or room only reservations.

It appears they switched the days around with the addition of the FS passes.
Yes. It changed starting with FS opening.

Lol you have us reassessing our plan now! The really hard part is planning hotels around the VP. -- needing a pre hotel and post hotel stay to finish off the total four nights desired.

The drink ticket appears to be valuable to sample all the restaurants without the hassle of a mobile order in japanese that we can't read. and that maybe worth more than I credit it.

Have to price out the 1nights vp now to see if that makes sense and do something like:

Day 0 Arrive Tokyo Night 1 Toy story hotel
dinner oceana for believe!
Day 1 Disneyland Night 2 (VP night) TS
Day 2 DisneySea FS Passport Night 3 FS/MC
Day 3 DisneySea regular ticket with Happy 15 Night 4 FS/MC
Day 4 DisneySea regular ticket with Happy 15 vs DL --- fly out evening back USA.

I'm so behind in my TDR knowledge I don't even know what VP stands for!

Ok, so if I want to stay for 3 nights (but arriving by train from Hakone that first day, so not getting in super early) and then leaving by HND in the evening of the last day, what would you suggest?

2nt VP for first 2 days
1nt book stand alone room

Does that work out with the tickets?
This is all so confusing.

The checkin day is always the first park day for the packages.

Wow. Well that helps. Maybe we will book something at the Hilton for the first night if we won't have time for the parks. I'll have to wait until the rest of the trip plans fall into place I guess. It seems wasteful to get a package and then not show up until later in the day.

You can book that evening at Hilton or the same hotel of the VP. If you have energy, consider thr twilight entry ticket as an option. Then next day start the vp bright an early....pickup the package as early as 7am at the designated hotel.
