Booking reservations

Do you make your reservations for character meals or events prior to booking what park you schedule for the day or select the park and then attempt to get reservations
 
We'll get the dining reservation first, just to confirm that's the park we want that day. At 60 days out, it hasn't been an issue getting the corresponding park reservation. If we cannot get the dining (which can happen), then we move to a Plan B and still have flexibility. Also, depending when the dining ADR is, it might not matter if we can park hop after 2PM to get to it.
 
The park is a much bigger priority to me than the meal, so park first. But I'm usually booking far enough in advance that its no problem getting whichever park i want
 

If Im going during a busy time I'll book park reservations for parks that are more likely to sell out (MK or HS) for every day of my trip as place holders, then book dining & extras, then modify.

Basically no harm in having something booked you can change later
