Booking next year during hurricane season

I am curious. Will people be wary of booking a vaca. to WDW next hurricane season. I am contemplating squeezing in a 5-6 night stay late Aug. early Sept.(to take adv. of our AP's).
I am thinking it may not be all that busy due to this years storms. If we had to cancel due to a hurricane it sounds like people got their pts. back to their orog. use year. Any thoughts?

I don't know about the points and cancelling; however, in answer to your other question, yes, we're VERY wary of going in September next year. Since we live in the Golf, hurricanes could affect us 2 ways. Either we go to where there's a hurricane, or if WDW doesn't get one, we could be leaving one back home-then who knows what will be left of our house when we get back from our "hurricane-free" vacation. DH and I are wondering if late October would be better. According to the UOG, that's not considered hurricane season.

The first 2 times dh and I went to WDW was in Sept. Wonderful. It usually rained late one night during our trip. That's it. This year, we went in Feb on the land/sea package. It was cold and rainy!!! Yes, the lines were short, but I was miserable. No swimming, no sunning, no docking at Castaway Cay.

It's a fluke, I know. Next time I go, though, we're doing fall!

We will be there for two weeks in Aug. Hope we are as lucky as we were this year.

We're wary, but we invited folks who can only travel the last 2 weeks in August, so we're going to BWV and VB during the 3 week of August '05. We'll hope for the best.

DH and I have been discussing this very thing. The past 2 years we've gone second week of September, and both years we barely avoided a hurricane. Don't know if our luck will continue to hold out, but I do like this week because crowds are quite low. Since it's in 'low point season' I'm tempted to chance Mother Nature again next year...

We have gone on the DCL every year in September for the past 5 years and this is the first year we had problems (we were on the 9/18 Magic that had to let people off on Friday night so they could move the ship before Hurricane Jeanne came).

I would book again for September if we could. I really like that time of the year (and the prices for DCL are great--points are very low for DVC resorts---lines are low at the parks).



We can't go in September anymore because my DDs are starting middle school next year and that changes our vacation schedules a lot! We have to go by the school schedule.

BUT if we could we would go again in September even though this year's cruise wasn't the best. And once the girls are done with school, I am sure DH and I will once again vacation in September (we like the low crowds).

I am all done living in what ifs. I have already planned a vacation for the third week in August, just like we did this past year. Luckily for us we were sandwiched in between the two hurricanes this past season. What ever will be...well you know. As the saying goes, "a bad day at Disney beats the heck out of a great day at work"!!

We have a 10 day trip planned for Sept '05 and we have no plans in changing the dates due to the weather. If I storm comes along we will be on vacation and still enjoy the time in our "home away from home"

I am not worried for the following reasons...

1.) Up until now, almost all the vacations my DH and I went on together were over the Labor Day holiday and to Florida - during hurricane season. Only once did we drive in the reminants of one of the storms, which actually was a mistake. Think I recall half waking up from my typical passenger side sleep hearing DH say, "We're going to die."

2.) From the threads I saw and on the DVC website itself, it seemed like cancelations were allowed and graces given regarding points restore, when members felt they needed to cancel because of conditions.

3.) It always rains a lot when we are in Florida, so that wouldn't be anything new to deal with.

4.) Seems weathering out a hurricane at Disney World would be quite an adventure, and from the reports I saw, members felt very safe and taken care of.

5.) Just like going after the summer crowds, and the weather could be better than hot, hot, hot July.

Yep, we'll still take a trip at that time. At least until the kids get school age. And I bet we go back to that time, once they graduate. Listen to me. They are only 6 months and 2 1/2, already thinking of them growing up. Time is passing too fast!!!

And it isn't as hard to take off during grade school years because you only have 1 teacher to deal with. Once they are in Middle school they will have many different teachers and it gets SO much more complicated!

Enjoy them while they are little. I was just looking at the Disney Store sales realizing that my girls would NEVER wear those kinds of clothes again! Boo Hoo!!! I need a little girl!!!!!!!!

Book during Hurricane Season? It's June - November!!!! Let's not go too crazy now. Another thing to fear? Life is full
of challenges and unplanned events.
When's the last time you saw a weatherman get the 5 day forecast right?
And we're worried about next years

hurricane season is June 1 to November 1, but August - september are the most active

don't change your plans for possible storms - come to sunny Florida!

same for cruises

I expect VB to be busy and crowded until after Labor Day

Yes we will be taking our usual two week trip next August. We've done this since 1991 and have never had a problem. It is the only time of the year we can go for 2 weeks. As others have said hurricane season is a long time and not all of us are lucky enough to be able to avoid it. Sometimes you just gotta go when you can!!

Instead of just dealing with your fear of the "H" word, why not deal with the more realistic impact it will have on your vacation.

We were there for nine days. Jeanne was a one-day adventure, and is now the only thing we're talking about to our friends. (They've all been to the parks, but have never seen a hurricane.)

Orlando had trees knocked down, but no real vacation-dampening damage.

Here's how the weather was while we were there:

Saturday: 85 and sunny.
Sunday: Hurricane Jeanne.
Monday: 85 and sunny.
Tuesday: 85 and sunny.
Wednesday: 85 and sunny.
Thursday: 85 and sunny.
Friday: 85 and sunny.
Saturday: 85 and sunny.

I think we had less than 20 minutes of rain outside of Jeanne.

You MIGHT be able to convince me to rethink a weekend trip, as a storm might mess that up. But that can happen anytime of the year with heavy rain.

Don't sweat it. You'll have a story to tell.

Interestingly, knowing about Jeanne ruined our mood for a couple of days BEFORE the trip. We thought it would be horrible. The entire family was chanting that we'd have "fun no matter what". The dread turned out to be a huge waste of emotional energy.

I think some of you may have a fear of having fear before your trip. Don't fear the fear. Enjoy the low points and low crowds.

We just finished making our ressies for the last week in August, and the first week in Sept.

DH said don`t be a chicken, it rains on and off alot this time of year anyway, so what the heck "we`re at our favorite place in the whole wide world"!!!

Very interesting.

I myself am not afraid.I am planning on a early Sept. vacation and I was (selfishly hoping that it would be even slower due to people being extra nervous after this year. Oh well!

We were there for Charley this year and have already booked next August's vacation. The only thing I would do differently if faced with a hurricane while in the WDW area would be to make sure I was at a Disney hotel. We were in the Travelodge Maingate East trying to save points when Charley hit that Friday night. We lost power, so no TV, no AC, no food or ice other than what was in our cooler, the rug was soaked (on the 2nd floor) and once it warmed up, my oh my didn't that room stink!!!!! Had I known better, I would've added Friday and Saturday to the reservation, the heck with the points, once we knew about the hurricane on Tuesday. The Travelodge did their best, but their level of service and ability to handle situations does not compare to what Disney is able to provide.
