Booking home resort online questions

my parents own at OKW and Kidani. They just banked 56 unused OKW points from 2018, and are allowing me to use them and some 2019 points for an August 2019 trip (they will be usuable for this date, I called member svc.). I’d like to book a Kidani studio that will come to 62 points. If I book online 11 months out, will it automatically use the 56 OKW points first? Do I get to manually allocate which points/contracts to use? Or because the bulk of the points are OKW, do I have to book at OKW, and then switch over to Kidani? And if this is the case, Can I do this immediately being that Kidani is a home resort, or do I need to wait until the 7 mos. mark? I’ve never actually booked online before - any other vacation I’d always called...

To use the 56 banked OKw, not sure the UY, to book at AKV you will need to wait until 7 months out. If you want to book AKV at 11 months out, you will need to use all AKV points. Best bet, if wanting to use those 56 OKW, is to book at OKW and then switch to AKV at 7 months.

Ugh. Thanks. I really wanted to stay an BWV but know that’s near impossible to get in for studios, and got excited when I realized my parents have Kidani points too... my girls would get a kick out of that. Hoping summer we will have some availability at the 7 month point....

You can use banked points from your home resort or borrowed points from your home resort as well as current points from your home resort in order to book something at 7 to 11 months out at your home resort.

However, you cannot use transfered points from a resort or contract that is not yours, or Points that are yours that are from a different home Resort, in order to book at 7 to 11 months out. You can only use transfered points From someone else or someone else’s account or from your own account that is a different resort, to book at the seven months or less window

Book OKW and at 7 months, switch to BWV if available which it might be.

For the time of year you want, August, both Kidani studios and BWV pool/garden studios are highly likely to be open at 7 months out. Just make sure you do the reservation exactly 7 months out. As to use of points when doing an online reservation, those OKW banked points will not automatically be used first. What will happen online is that you will first put in the dates you want, resort and room category, next you will get a page showing whether what you want is open and if so you can choose to reserve it, and then next you are going to get a page where it shows you have 20 minutes to complete the reservation and you designate which DVC contracts to use for the reservation. What will be important then is that you make the OKW contract with the banked points the number 1 contract to be used and any other contract if needed the number 2 choice.

However, you as an owner do not have the ability to switch points from one current reservation to another, if the new reservation is being done while the old reservation still exists

If you have already made the Old Key West reservation and used those banked points for it, then you will either need to cancel the Old Key West reservation before you get to the screen where it says that you have 20 minutes and you need to choose your points to use, or else you will need to book the new reservation with some current points and then you can go call member services later, when they are open, and ask them to switch the points for you.

As far as the program is concerned when you are making the appointment by computer, if you have already used those points on another current reservation, and if that current reservation still exists, then the points do not exist for you to be able to use them on the new reservation. That is why you must either cancel the previous reservation before you get to the place where you need points, or you must make the reservation with other points to start with, and then call member services to change it.

You will only be using 6 Kidani points, is that correct? And the rest of the 62 points will be the 56 banked OKW points? If that is true, I would do exactly what everyone is recommending, and book OKW at the 11 month mark and at the 7 month mark switch to AKV. You will have to cancel the OKW reservation to use the banked OKW points, but I think you will be fine and still easily get a studio at Kidani at 7 months. But do the switch at 8:00 am at the 7 month mark online.
