We are looking to make AKV our home resort, about 270 points,go every other year for 14-16 nights.I have read another thread that says you can only book 7 nights at the 11 month and 7 month window.so how would this work? I might get 7 nights in the room i request, but does that mean when i phone back to reserve my other 7-9 nights i might have to move room?i might have to do a possible 3 resevations?
Do you book the rooms or the flight first? I would have thought flight first, but now im not so sure:confused3 Please help:flower3:Surely im not the only person who does DVC for this amount of time:headache:

yes.

unlikely.

if it's a busy time, then you would have to call back a few times (book 7 nights then call back in a week to book 7 more nights and so on). if it's not a busy period, just count off <edited to correct: 9> days from the start of the 11 month window opening and call and book the whole thing. unless you are looking for a concierge room or value room...or for a trip that includes christmas day and NYE...i wouldn't worry too much about it.

even if you call back a few times...they should still be able to extend the reservation and keep it under 1 reservation number.

i'd book the rooms first.

If you call 9 days after the 11 month mark for your check-in day then you would be able to book all at once.

Otherwise when you are booking exactly at 11 months from check in if you have your first 7 days you will be able to get your last ones since you have a lock on the room. Just call at 11 months from your check in day and book your first 7 nights. 6 days later call and book the next 6 nights and then 3-4 days later call and book the final nights. Usually they will just extend your original reservation - tell them that is what you are doing when you call back. Or, if they do make them different reservations then have them link them so you don't have to change rooms.

We always book rooms first then air. But then I've never bought an air ticket 11 months in advance! :goodvibes

We are also from the UK, and booking 11 mths in advance is perfect as it coincides with the release of the flights!! I also will book the DVC first, purely to be sure of my dates and also to allow time for the return flight dates to become available:thumbsup2

Good luck with your purchase :banana:

We own at AKV and booked 14 days into the eleven month window for a two week stay with no problem, its a big resort so unless you are booking for very high demand times there should be no problem.

Say you want a room starting on July 12, 2011 and check out on the 28. You would call Aug. 11, 2010. Book for 7 nights, so 7-12,13,14,15,16,17,18. Nobody else can book that room til the night of the 19. You can call back on Aug. 18 and add on 7-19,20,21,22,23,24 with the same reservation number and still nobody else can get your room. Next you would call on Aug. 21 to add 7-25,26,and 27. If you call right at the 11 month mark, that room is yours as long as you add more nights before the 11 month windows opens up to other members.:thumbsup2

If you want to be sure you get the room consecutively, you could try "walking-in" your reservation.

A tried and true system of yor, in which you would call each morning and book the next day in your list until you have all of your days together and linked. I haven't had to use this in a couple of years, but I bet it would still work. Of course, this means calling member Services each day.

Good luck!

"Walking " a reservation, in which you book nights before you intend to arrive in order to gaurnatee the booking of nights after your arrive, is almost never needed, exspecially for a long stay.

Day by day booking is only useful if you enjoy speaking with MS a lot.

As noted by Kat4Disney, one call will book 14 nights if you book 9 nights after the 11 month window.

If you can stand to make 3 calls to MS, then call at the 11 month window, 6 days later and 6 days after that and you can book as many as 19 nights in 3 telephone calls. Once you book the first 7 nights, the last nights are guaranteed for the same size/booking category as long as you book 6 days later than 6 days after that. Best of luck -- Suzanne

I did this for this year's trip, booked the first 7 nights then called every day to add another day. Got exactly what we wanted, 18 nights in concierge..:banana:

Is the booking 7 nights limit only on 11 or 7 months out? Or is it all the time

Only at the exact 11 or 7 month window. If you after the 11 / 7 month mark, you can book more than that.

For example, today is the 11 month window for June 12th. Someone calling today can only book 7 nights from this date.

However, if they call today and want to book a trip starting June 1st, they can book more then those 7 days because the dates of the reservation would be well within the 11 month window.

That's how ya do it! Tell MS on your first call what your final checkout day will be and then call each day to add-on a day to the existing reservation. It will be one reservation number.:)

I agree with Suzanne that walking is almost never needed. And calling day by day is unnecessary. You no longer gain anything by doing that other than a headache. 3 calls max will accomplish the exact same thing. Or one if you feel brave enough to wait.

For OP , what are you booking? Unless it is a concierge room or a Grand Villa, you will have no problem at all doing either of the following: (a) booking 7 nights 11 months out from arrival date, then calling 7 days later and booking the next 7 nights, and then calling 2 days later and adding the last two nights; OR (b) waiting until 10 days into the 11 month window and calling and booking all 16 nights. In the first situation they will just keep adding on nights to the first reservation and ultimately you will end up with one reservation for all nights. You can do the second because at AKV you are still going to get what you want waiting 10 days into the 11 month window unless it is one of the two categories I mentioned above. Other things at AKV do not disappear quickly at the 11 month window.

As for flights, I would not personally do it first and never can anyway since we fly Southwest which never has bookings that far in advance of a trip. The exception may be if the heavily discounted rates appear and may disappear before you are able to book the room.
