Booking DVC for August Trips

Hi everyone! I have never traveled to WDW in August before (my trips have been May, October or December). However, in '10, '11 and maybe '12, my trips will be in August so that I can take my sister's kids within them missing school. For '10, my plan is to spend 10 days at Kidani starting 8/14. At the 11 month mark, I will be on the DVC cruise. So my question is:
Do I need to be concerned enough to call at exactly 11 months?
Or will it be OK to wait until 1 week in when I will be home from vacation?

Thanks

I can only relay to you my experience. We are going at the end of August this year. I own at SSR, not AKV. At the 7 month mark, I called and booked a 5 day stay in a 1 BR Value at Jambo. Then in July I added on another day. I also booked a 4 day stay in a studio at OKW 6 weeks out with a BCV waitlist which came through this week (1 month out). I personally wouldn't stress out about being inside of the 11 month mark for late August.

I booked for the 1st time for our August trip this year right at 11month, but I wanted a 2bd value at Jambo and I wanted to make sure I got it. I need to save the points for our Vero stay and our F & W stay. If you have some flexibility in your views, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks rellabee and dairyqueenmom, you are helping me feel better! Now I can relax on the cruise and not obsess about booking my August trip. The view is important for the trip, but we want SV so that should be the easiest to get.

No problem whatsoever waiting one week into your 11 month window to book AKV Kidani, especially if you plan to book the Savanna view category. IMO, you would be successful even if you waiting until just before the 7 month mark.

Have fun on the cruise and don't worry about making the reservation until you get back home. :)

So far I have only booked at the 7 month window or less. Two of our ressies have been for August, including our one in 3 weeks. For this one, our first choice was BCV, 2nd choice was BWV. When I first called at about 9:30 am exactly on our 7 mo. window, one day in the middle of the week was not available at BCV so I booked BWV instead and waitlisted BCV. Not a big deal but the waitlist came thru within a day or two! I would not worry about being off by a week unless you were trying to book over the holidays or something. August should not be that hard to get!!:thumbsup2

Most days in August you can get most rooms well past the 11 month mark, it is a little more difficult in the few days after the points drop (16th- the Friday of that week) but for Kidani I would be very surprised if there was an issue.

Have fun with the kids
