Booking an overnight stay near gatwick? Please read!

We stayed at this hotel 2 or 3 years ago before a flight to Orlando. We booked a family room 2 adults and 2 children at least 3 months prior to arrival, they gave us 2 double rooms miles from each other, when we complained they finally found us 2 adjoining rooms but we had terrible trouble arranging for them to come and unlock the door in between. The condition of the rooms was not to bad. When we checked in we were asked what time transfer coach we wanted in the morining and booked it. When we got downstairs the next morning with 4 cases and 2 children, one in a buggy, 20 mins before the coach was due to depart IT WAS FULL. Went into reception and the lady said that we should have got there earlier to get on, surely if they only have 15 seats they only book 15 seats, but no they had booked at least 25. She said the only option for us was to get a cab FOR WHICH WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY, she picked on me on the wrong morning, I think I must have woken all the hotels residents, she still insisted that we pay and called the cab, when the duty manager finally appeared he wanted us to pay, the upshot was we did not pay but only because we got out of the cab at the airport and told the driver to go back to Russ Hill for payment and walked off. When we arrived home we had a 50 min wait for the coach and when we got to the car park our car had several extra scratches and small dents than it had before but I was so tired and the car was very old I could not be bothered to complain any more, have I stayed there since. NO

Glad you posted the link. Hopefully the hotel read the reviews and do something about it. Otherwise people will take their custom elsewhere.

I've never stayed here so can't comment on this particular hotel, but it is worth bearing in mind that Trip Advisor Reviews should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

I have stayed at some really nice hotels that were absolutely slated on there; equally I have stayed at some which were a disappointment to me but thrilled others. It all depends what you're expecting!

I agree :) I would go for personnal recommendation.

Don't even get me started on Trip Advisor! That website scares me ;) whenever I look to check up a hotel we have booked. The diversity of customer comments is so wide. I agree -- go for personal recommendation more than trusting Trip Advisor.
