Has anyone done this? What is the benefit over purchasing a DCL cruise yourself? It looks like all the same info, but more expensive?

The ABD add on for Alaskan and Caribbean cruises is fairly new. I am not sure anyone will have done it yet. But there are reviews on the ABD boards for the Europe add ins that will give you an idea of how it works. Basically you do all your excursions with ABD instead of booking and planning your own port activities.

When looking at the ABD site, you are looking at the price of the add on ONLY. That does not include the price of the cruise. You are paying ABD for excursions and a few on-ship activities. The ABD excursions are all done as a group, with the same guides, from what I'm told, and on other cruises it's touted as a way to do multiple excursions per port.

Thank you for explaining this.

It can be confusing. We considered it for our Baltic cruise, but I just couldn't stomach the price added on to an already expensive cruise. The vacationista explained it was a way to get to do multiple excursions in each port. We solved that by booking private tours at a small fraction of the cost. You can get more BTDT info on the ABD board here.
