Booking AirTran through SW?

Now the question I'm wondering is if it's just as important now to book at exactly the 24 hour mark. If that makes any difference when they are assigning seats.

Seats are assigned when you check in. So if you're the last to check in you'll get whatever is left.

If I do not purchase an advance seat assignment, when will I receive my seat assignment?

You will be able to select your seat for your AirTran-operated segment upon check-in, even if you do not purchase a seat assignment in advance. Segments operated by Southwest Airlines will be given a priority boarding number at check-in.

You may select your seat for your AirTran-operated segment prior to arriving at the airport by taking advantage of our online check-in system from 24 hours to 45 minutes before your scheduled flight departure. Flights involving a Southwest Airlines segment may check-in online from 24 hours to 1 hour prior to scheduled flight.
