Booking Airplane tickets

I am a little freaked out here.

Last month, I checked the prices of non-stop airfare from Boston to Orlando Dec 10-15. It looked like there were tons of flights on Delta Song for about $160 per person round trip. Great...

I went to purchase this morning on cheap tickets or expedia and I guess they are all sold out or something. The only thing that is left that we could afford are tickets with three hour lay-overs in Atlanta. This totally screws my plans up and will be miserable with two toddlers in tow. Is it possible that more seats will open up or am I just screwed? I have never bought my own tickets before - always gone through a travel agent.

Check out Jetblue. They usually don't participate in those "master sites" and I know they have great service out of Boston

I did. They are actually pretty expensive from what I've seen and aren't even booking out that far yet. I will probably wait at this point and check daily to see what becomes available. I'm just upset because Delta had a flight leaving at 8am arriving at 11:15am and then departing at 6:45pm and arriving at 10pm which would have been so nice. I wish I had booked those last month!

Golden - there was post like this yesterday. We are having the same situation. When we were getting prices for our December trip last month - there was Delta Song out of Hartford for pretty cheap.

With Delta stuggling - I think they got rid of Song - so now the only nonstop is 1000 bucks.....I dont think so !!! :confused3

The are a few one stops in Atlanta - but now you are wasting a WHOLE day for flying !!! Cant under stand why a 2 hour 53 min flight has to turn out to be an all day affair.

Our only saving grace so far - is that its still a while away for us.

Another thing that is bothering us is that our December timeframe is the same week as PopWarner - so many of the Southwest flights might be gobbled up by them ???

What to do !?!?!? :sad2:

SouthWest SouthWest, SouthWest. Also, is flying out of Providence (actually Warwick, RI) a possiblity? Right now SouthWest is the only one that flies direct flights out of Providence to Orlando. We went in January and paid $59.00 plus taxes each way. I got the same flights you mentioned, we left about 7:30 a.m. and arrived in Orlando about 10:30, ahead of schedule.

SouthWest doesn't release dates until about 3-4 months beforehand, but I an also anxiously waiting December dates. if I can get the $59.00 deal guess who's going to Disney for an early X-Mas present

Shoegirl - I hear you....but my husband likes to have everything organized early....the waiting untill August is going to kill him.

Plus - what happens if we miss the "Ding" and they sell out. Does anybody actually know what exact date SWA December tickets will go on sale ???? :confused3

Ahhhh...that makes sense. Song must have been moved out of Logan. I thought it was odd that those flights would be sold out so far in advance. Providence is definitely an option for us. I will try Jet Blue and Southwest. I'm not sure I could stand to wait until August to book those tickets but at least it is an option.

Thanks so much! I guess I'm not alone.

If I set my alarm for 12am the day they sell Southwest tickets, do you think I'll have trouble getting them?

I don't have a clue how you would know which day to set your alarm for. SW doesn't announce in advance!

Anyway, keep watching DL. Something is going on and it's not that all the tickets are sold out. My bet is that they are going to do a major reduction/change out of the NE and have pulled the discount fares until they get thier act together.

Delta did, in fact, increase their fares for Dec. I'm waiting to book my flight in early Dec. I'm going to be booking with JB, but they won't open that time frame for a bit yet. But....I think you will find that when Delta gets their act together (absorbing the Song people/flights) that you will see the rates come back down again. I don't believe that Delta is going to keep those fares at over a thousand dollars forever. It just means that we have to wait, rather than book at that 331 day window like we are used to.
If Delta does try to keep their fares high, then they will lose a lot of people to SW and JB!! But, I have even found that JB has increases fares on some routes for our May trip, and changed a lot of them to connecting flights. I think all the airlines are trying to cope with the fuel prices and trying to keep current with what the other airlines are doing.

I personally like the AA Netfares. Sign up online for a free AAdvantage number and sign up for Netfares.

Regular fare from BOS to MCO is $593.00 per person. YIKES!!
Usually the NetsAAvers are at leat half, depending on where you are flying from.

I am also anxiously waiting Southwest release dates for December- this usually happens sometime in August is what I have heard. Right now they have a Florida frenzy with airfare being 59 dollars one way from Buffalo up until June something. I wish that could be December something instead. Southwest offers a nonstop from Buffalo to Orlando- yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only flown Southwest and pretty much only book Southwest for others I know. They are AWESOME! I would hang out and wait for them, you won't be sorry! The best thing about them is say they release your travel dates August 1. BOOK THEM! If their fare goes lower, go rebook it (very easy to do, just call them and they will walk you through it) and they give you a FULL credit to use in the next years time...NO penalties at all! Spring break is the only time that I have seen it hard to get on SW, when booking just weeks before your travel...other than that, the rest tends to be a piece of cake.

As someone else said, it would be worth it for you to drive to Providence, non stop flights to MCO!

Check bestfares.com - they are showing one for $168 RT from BOS to MCO (you'd have to check the restrictions to see if it would work for you).

Good luck!

If you see a good airline fare, it's usually an excellent idea to lock it in asap. Especially when you are planning a trip in a high travel month (like Dec), when ticket prices always go up.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I checked bestfares.com and nwa. Unfortunately, the flight is not non-stop and goes through Detroit which sends us quite out of our way.

I hear you! We're playing the waiting game too, only for October. I really want to fly out of Logan though, because we only live about 8 miles from the airport - I can't see wasting all the time and effort to go to Manchester or Providence for Southwest when it takes us 15 minutes tops (and that's with all red lights!) to get to Logan. We don't have to park, because we have plenty of friends who don't mind taking a half hour to get us to/from the airport! I just have a hard time waiting ... I like to have everything booked asap and know it's done!

we flew from logan to mco last december we did not buy out tickets til october
and we spent 590 for te 4 of us TOTAL then the tickets went down 2 and we have a credit of over 250 for this years trips
just keep going to jetblue everyday and checking
also try
www.sidestep.com
good luck
