If we wanted to do a split stay in order to enjoy two resorts on this vacation, do we have to call Disney to make it seamless with the dining plan or will it get broken apart no matter what? Right now we're thinking 5 nights at PO-FQ and 4 nights at the Cabins at WL. We want the QS dining plan and will attempt to make a few last minute ADR's for a couple nice dinners.

Last time we went, we got the dining plan for our first half of the trip. Then we we got to the second resort, we were informed that the dining plan was cancelled. We were furious at the moment but later on realized it worked that we were better off without the dining plan in the second half.

You will have 2 reservations, regardless of whether you book online or call. Disney doesn't see a split stay as such, but rather 2 separate reservations. The best way to do a split stay with tickets is to book the tickets to cover the entire stay with the first resort and book room only for the second resort. If you want the DDP for both stays, you will have to buy tickets with each reservation (a minimum of a 1 day base ticket is required if you pay for dining and a 2 day base minimum is required for free dining).

We're going to have updated Annual Passes. I'm a DVC owner but we aren't staying on points this time. I think I'll have to call to make the reservation no matter what because we aren't buying park entries and we can have the DP with the resort stay + AP.

Plus the dining plan will end at the end of the reservation. So you cannot carry over your dining credits from your first location to your second location. Except until midnight of the day you check out of the first location.

I wasn't aware you were booking AP + Dine packages. You will still have to book 2 separate packages, though.

I'm so used to Facebook. I want to click "like" for the help :) Thank you for the info!

Doesn't that make things more expensive in the long run? Doing 2 days worth of tickets and then another 3 days somewhere else? It kind of detracts from the appeal of a split stay for me!

Yes, it is more expensive to do it that way. That's what's bad about getting the DDP for the whole trip and doing a split stay when you aren't an AP holder or DVC member staying on points. Even though you can get tickets for the whole trip on one reservation and a 1 day ticket on the other and save them for a future trip, those 1 day tickets can add up fast as an extra expense depending on the number of people.

If you want to do the Dining Plan for your entire vacation, split stays don't make a whole lot of financial sense because you do need to invest in 2 sets of tickets. However - you can purchase a ticket option for for the first portion that will cover the entire amount of days you plan to be there - and *save* the second set of tickets for the next trip.
BUT if you want to do the Dining Plan on that next trip, then it makes NO sense because you will still have to buy another round of tickets.
