Booking a package question

My son is wanting to plan a trip for March 2013 but when we go to the WDW site it will not let us check on these dates,it says only available through the end of 2012.But I have noticed many people have their trips for 2013 booked already so do you need to call in order to book/check pricing for 2013?

A room only can be booked now (499 days out) by calling, but for packages or to book online, you have to wait until the 2013 rates come out. Those rates should be out sometime this summer (new rates usually come out in August), but the 2012 rates were out the middle of June last year. If you book room only now, you will be quoted at the highest rate for 2012, pay a deposit equal to 1 night's room rate + tax, and then it will be adjusted once the new rates come out. Also keep in mind that if you choose to book just the room now but want to change to a package later, the room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.
