Hi,

I'm new to DVC, and recently bought 320points at VGC.

I'm planning a trip to WDW in 2012, and was wondering, about point transfers.

What I would like to do is arrange a point trade with someone with BLT or AKV, for VGC points and was wondering.

If someone with BLT or AKL transfered points to my account, would I be able to use those points to book 11 months in advance?

Yes, the transferred points will retain their Home Resort status. You could use the transferred points from BLT for reservations at BLT 11 months ahead and use the transferred points from AKV for AKV reservations 11 months ahead. Any points (transferred or otherwise) may be used at other resorts 7 months ahead.

Enjoy! :)

You'll have a small hurdler to get over with this plan. You can only do one transfer (in or out) per use year so you would have to find someone who would trade your 2010 points (you transfer out to them) for their 2011 points (they transfer in to you).

Since it is calender use year you would have to do 1 transfer during your 2010 calender use year and later the other in your 2011 calender use year (and the same for the other party) which would involve significant trust.

Interesting as this is not how it was explained to me. I was told that the transfer goes by UY of points, not by calendar year.

I was told that I could specifically transfer both 2010 and 2011 UY points on the same day but that they would count for my one and only 2010 UY transfer and my one and only 2011 UY transfer.

It sounds like you were told something differently. Since I have never actually done a transfer, my information could be wrong.

Your infomation is correct. DVC does not work on a calendar year.

I have taken this all that way to QA and had it reviewed and they have confirmed that this is the actual rule. Many in MS still do it the other way but it is definetly one transfer per member calender use year (not calender year, for say a June use year you may do 1 transfer between June first 2010 and May 31 2011 for example) you can transfer in the same use year more than once as long as they are valid points from the member transfering out and you do it in 2 of your different use years. Because of all the probelms in this area I created definitions for QA and Member satifaction to improve the service and understanding of both MS and the members, They said they would fix the problem but of course like everything else that goes to members satisfaction it went into the black hole.

sandisw,

In your scenerio it would only count as your 2010 transfer allocation. The rule is always ask for a supervisor for questions about transfers and even in that case it is my experiance that only about 50% get it correct.

Thanks all!

So for this to work for me, Since I have a Feb use year, and I'm looking to go to WDW in 2012 of June or July. I would need to find someone with a use year later than June 2011 to transfer me points with and I would need to trade with them points from my 2012 use year.

That way, my transfers would be used up for my use years of 2011 AND 2012.

I think I got that right...
:confused3

PS: IS it valid per contract? or Per person? as I have 4 contracts.

I am planning the same thing...a June 2012 trip using transferred points.

We are planning to transfer in June 2011 UY points and bank them. Then, we will transfer in June 2012 UY points so that we can make a reservation for June 2012.

Here's the tricky part... we want to take advantage of the transferred points' home resort booking window. In order to do that, we will need to make our reservation in July 2011. The CM I spoke to could not wrap her head around WHEN we should do the transfers. She (and I) had trouble figuring out how to transfer the 2012 points in 2011:confused:. I understand that they would not be "borrowed" points since they would be used for a June 2012 trip, but the CM kept telling me that they cannot be transferred before the start of the UY. I pointed out (again) that the 2012 points would be CURRENT points when we travel and there is no way we could do the transfer on June 1 and secure a reservation for June 13. She finally put me on hold for about 15 minutes to talk to a supervisor. When she came back, she had the "solution". She said that in July of 2011, we can call and 1) transfer in the 2011 points and immediately bank them, then 2) transfer in the 2012 points, then 3) book our reservation for 2012. She assured me that this could all be done in one call. I am still a little skeptical, because it is such a complicated transaction. On paper, it is completely on the up and up, but it seems as though MS just can't get everyone on the same page.

The way you have explained it was how it was explained to me. You can transfer points in or out of your current and next UY.

So, for June 2012 UY points, those can be transferred once we are in the June 2011 UY. Right now, since we are in a June 2010 UY, someone could transfer you June 2011 UY points, which you could bank and then you would have completed your 2011 UY transfer.

Good luck!

What you would not be able to do is get those June 2012 UY points prior to the June 2011 UY starting.

Good luck!

Yup, that is exactly how I interpreted it. Here's a question, what would stop me from transferring the 2012 points in July 2011 and then using them for a reservation in, say, April 2012? I assume that MS would see that they were transferred points and could therefore not be borrowed, right?

Yes, they would still retain UY and home resort after the transfer. So they would indeed see that those points were June 2012 UY points and therefore not eligible for April 2011 since as you mention, transferred points can not be borrowed.
