So I'm really excited we booked last night the British Isles cruise for September 2019. I had posted before conflicted about what cruise to do (I had a Celebrity cruise originally booked) I've never been to any of the locations and can't wait to start researching and planning what to do. If you have any suggestions on what we should see our do that would be welcome :) We are going to do a week in Paris before the cruise.

We want to do that cruise in the future. Good choice, should be outstanding. Now you need to choose another count down ticker for the cruise.
Thanks :) I'm really excited. I do need to add another count down ticker, it's such a long count down.

Port or Starboard???????
We picked port. The direction of the ship it looks like that side will have some better views.

Sounds lovely! This cruise itinerary has been on my bucket list for when my kids are a bit older. I am sure it +paris will be delightful.

Sounds incredible! Definitely include a trip to Palo. And maybe think about a couples massage at the spa, as well as a length of cruise spa pass for you both.

Great choice! A few suggestions based on what we have done and loved:
  • Dublin - Guinness Brewery, Book of Kells at Trinity College, walk around Grafton St. and Temple Bar area
  • Belfast - Antrim coast drive, Giant's Causeway (so cool!), Carrick-a-rede rope bridge
  • Greenock - private tour to Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Doune Castle, and walk around Glasgow or longer trip to Edinburgh
Have fun planning!

DH and I plan on booking that cruise within the week! We got married last year so this one will be an anniversary/birthday trip.

It’ll be our 1st time on DCL and DH’s 1st time in Europe.

Already have a cruise booked this September but we are so excited for 2019. Can’t wait to start planning!

Sounds nice.

Just in case you don’t know this....if you're going immediately after the wedding, book in your maiden name. Because if you’re changing your name you won’t have time to get your passport changed to your new name.

That's a great idea! There is a sea day at the very beginning and the very end, which would you think would be better for the dinner? A couples massage would make it very romantic.

Thanks! I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to do, but I feel really good about this trip.

Dublin - Guinness Brewery, Book of Kells at Trinity College, walk around Grafton St. and Temple Bar area
These sound really great. Is this city walk-able on our own or should we do a cruise excursion?

Belfast - Antrim coast drive, Giant's Causeway (so cool!), Carrick-a-rede rope bridge
I'll have to check these out. I've heard how there are Game of Throne tours here also, but I wonder if they'd still do them since the show is ending next year.

Greenock - private tour to Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Doune Castle, and walk around Glasgow or longer trip to Edinburgh
I love the movie Braveheart so seeing the Wallace monument would be so cool. I don't think there would be enough time to do both Glasgow and Edinburgh, which one would you recommend more?

Have fun planning!
I am such a planner so I'll be in my happy place the next year and a half. :)

Oh that's exciting! You'll to stop by and say hi :) We will be wearing the Mickey and Minnie wedding ears all over the ship. I'm debating if we should try and do that game show where they pick a honeymoon couple. You're going to have so much fun, I really love the Disney cruise line. They do such a good job keeping adult only areas just for adults and the ship is beautiful. And so exciting for your DH I love Europe you're going to have so much fun! We can bounce planning ideas off each other.

Sounds nice.

Thanks! I'm actually getting married in November, but we wanted to do a European cruise and they are only in the summer so it's almost a year anniversary.

Edinburgh Is definitely recommended over Glasgow. I live just outside Edinburgh and studied in Glasgow and while Glasgow is a really vibrant, cultural city, Edinburgh is just more appealing. Beautiful architecture, great history, the castle and just a better tourism infrastructure. It’s only an hour from Glasgow. Heads up, Greenock is a typical port town and not pretty in the slightest so you really need to go on an excursion. There are good transport links from Greenock to Glasgow and then very regular trains right into the centre of Edinburgh if you wanted to DIY it.

I don't think we'll do much DIY, I like going through the cruise since they're less likely to leave if we run late. A city close to the port is more doable, but it does seem quite a bit of travelling will be required here. I have heard wonderful things about Edinburgh's castle. You must have an awesome accent :)

A great alternative to Edinburgh Castle is Stirling Castle. It’s built in the same style and many features are similar both inside and out. I haven’t looked at the DCL port adventures for the British Isles but I’m sure there will be one to Stirling Castle and surrounding area. The area around Loch Lomond is also very scenic and there’s Rob Roy country too - there’s actually a lot of different options in that part of Scotland, just north of Greenock. Just remember to bring a waterproof jacket! Any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.

I looked at the excursions Disney has listed and I think it mentioned one for Stirling Castle as well. It'll be my first time going to Scotland so I want to make the most of the day. Do they use the Pound there like in England? Also, what is the weather like in September?

We use pound sterling although our notes are issued from Scottish banks not Bank of England so they look a bit different. You can use Bank of England notes here, any form of sterling is accepted. That applies to Northern Ireland too.

In terms of weather it will just be your luck. There is no typical monthly weather here. Some years we have no summer and get a nice spell of weather in the autumn. September can be pretty decent. Last week we had gorgeous weather in the seventies ( quite unusual for us) but this week temps have dropped to forties! You never can tell. Very unpredictable, bring plenty of layers and hope for the best.

Ok good to know for the money, that way we won't have to carry too many different types on the trip. I'd be okay with colder weather since I'm from Florida and it's always hot.
