The last piece of the puzzle fell into place for my January solo trip today! I have a flight reservation and it's official. I am going Jan. 3-7. I'm spending the 3rd and the 4th at BCV and the 5th and the 6th at POFQ. I have worked really hard for this vacation and I can't tell you how much ?I'm looking forward to it!

Awesome, Melissa! Now the hardest part comes - the waiting! The anticipation is horrible! :)

Woo hoo! Go you Melissa!!! Solo trips become addictive! hehe :) I leave for another in 8 days!! :)

Thanks guys! Half the fun at this point is getting to share the news! I'm looking to try some new restaurants for this trip, does anyone have any good suggestions?

P.S. Mykelogan, I noticed you have a Disneyland trip coming up soon. Let me know if you need any advice, I go probably about every two weeks!

Hi Melissa,

Not sure which ressies you have been to before but I would definitely suggest Boma, Kona Cafe, Le Cellier, and Tangeriene Cafe. :)

I do have a Disneyland Q, would you recommend Blue Bayou for a nice meal with my sisters? I have been trying to decide on one ADR. Any other reccomendations? This is a very quick visit as my trip is really to San Diego to see my sister but we are doing Disney hehe for a day or two. :)

Mike :goodvibes

Mike,
Kona and Tangerine Cafe are both on my list of restaurants I haven't tried yet. Now would you reccommend the Tangerine Cafe over Restaurant Markesh? Thanks for the suggestions!
As for Disneyland, I love the Blue Bayou! It is one of my all time favorite restaurants in any Disney park I have ever been to. It is along the lines of Prime Time 50's Cafe, or Sci Fi in terms of the great themeing, but the food is of a much higher caliber than either of the other two. I usually go there for lunch and order the monte cristo. It's worth every single calorie! Make sure that you get a table closer to the water (doesn't have to be right on the egde) so you can take in all of the atmosphere the room has to offer.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the Blue Bayou info. Think I will call today to book lunch if I can! hehe :)

I have not been to Marrekesh so my opinion is a bit skewed but I love the CS at Tangeriene Cafe, plus you can eat outside and people watch. :) I have had dinner at Kona and loved it. I am having an early breakfast there next week so I can finally try the much discussed Tonga Toast! hehe :)

Hope you are having fun with your planning!
Mike :)

I've been on 4 myself (already booked the 5th for next year). I love going with family, but enjoy going solo just as much. Don't forget to take advantage of those singles lines on some of the attractions. Also, bring a book or something to read with you to the parks. This helps pass the time either waiting for a show or parade to start or while dining. I find this takes any awkwardness of dining solo away. Here are some of my favorite places to dine at WDW:

California Grill
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Rose & Crown
Le Cellier
Crystal Palace
Cindy's (dinner)
Spoodles
Tusker House
50's Primetime Cafe

Last week I did my first solo character meal and found it great! I was so busy enjoying watching the characters interact with the children that I never felt lonely. And just to be sure, Goofy and Minnie always gave me a hug and kiss as they went by. Two other great places for solo dining are Sci-Fi and Chefs de France (be sure to get a window seat).
I sure could have used your help last summer-my first trip to DL and it ended up (not planned) I was solo. Late July, hot, and since it was only a few days after the 17th, it was very crowded.

Although I sometimes meet some friends and their kids at WDW, I always book solo and spend the majority of time solo each year over the last seven years. Teppanyaki (spelling?) is a great place for a single person if you want some company for a meal. You are put with a family (or two) or business travellers there for a conference and everyone is friendly and its easy to start a conversation while waiting for the meal. And the food is good!

I've never considered Tepanyaki before. Is it similar to Benihana? If it is then I know I will love it! The question then becomes do I want to dine at a Disney restaurant that might be quite similar to one here at home? Thanks for all the input! I really appreciate all of the suggestions!

Melissa

Hey Melissa - You're in San Diego - where I was born and raised! :cool1:

I grew up with DL. Another vote here for Blue Bayou and the Monte Cristo sandwich (also the Shrimp Jambalaya). Living in FL I really miss that!

As for Tepanyaki at Epcot, it's great! The only reason I don't dine there much is because that particular restaurant does not honor the Disney Dining Experience card so I can't get a 20% discount there. :sad2:

I prefer Restaurant Marrakesh over Tangierine Cafe - being sit-down instead of quick service. The atmosphere is nice, food is very good (I love the lemon chicken), and there is music and a belly dancer for entertainment.

Have a magical vacation! If you'd like any company for any WDW meals, PM or e-mail me (info@magicaldisney.com). :earsgirl:

My 2 favorite places to eat solo are Planet Hollywood and Rainforest Cafe at DTD. They both have bars that you can eat at.

Other than that, I just eat the normal fast food places for lunch. For dinner, I'll grab a turkey leg and be perfectly content with that.

I went solo in August and really enjoyed Concourse Steakhouse and Le Cellier. Both the food and service were excellent. One thing I was able to try this time since my son wasn't tagging along was the tea at the Grand Floridian. I really enjoyed that experience and found it perfect for a solo.
