Born in the 50’s, my parents just liked the name Barbara. There were three of us in the same grade that went all the way through high school together. Now I don’t know anyone named Barbara.
My name is Curtis and my mother was part of the Tony Curtis film crew and got a autographed picture...it was either Guy Marx after Zorro or Curtis... which as a child was told was a root of courteous...so I won every citizenship honor in elementary school...than just became another brick in the wall
I really enjoyed reading everyone’s replies on this topic. I always enjoy reading the replies on the polls, but I especially really enjoyed reading these. Thank you to everyone that took the time to discuss your name
I may have mentioned or referred to my name here a few times. I am named for the most important female Irish saint, who has been growing in importance in recent years with a bank holiday.
I guess my first name is OK... not particularly thrilled with it though. I am not named after anyone in particular..... my mom was so "bandwagon" back in the day it seems.
My actual first name is Michelle....... yea sooooooooooo common during the time frame I was born. I remember always having to use last initials in elementary school because there were several of us in my classroom Thankfully the last initials didn't overlap too.
I'm a Jenny (Jennifer). I just think Jenny is so common and a childlike name. I wished it was shortened to Jen or Jenna, I would have been happy with either of those. I've tried going to Jennifer but it just seems so proper. I usually don't correct someone if they say Jennifer.
My full first name is nice, i have never liked the shortened nickname, and I absolutely loathed the cutsey family nickname. Unfortunately, no one uses the name I actually prefer. They insist on using the version I don't like which is at least better than the version I loathe.
I voted that my name is just ok. It’s an old fashioned name that you really don’t hear anymore. I go by the shortened version and only my parents call me by my full name. I was named after a diamond mine.

My first name isn't after anyone specific (although our neighbor at the time had a daughter with my name. My parents said they wouldn't have chosen it if they didn't have good associations with the name, but they didn't "name me after" the neighbor girl.) My middle name is after my dad's aunt. I feel that name "suits me more" but I've never gone by my middle name.
My first name was a Top 10 name the year I was born. Although I was always aware that it wasn't a unique name, I've honestly never run into that many of them.
