I have not yet booked our trip. Is there any benefit or is it easier or quicker, etc to booking a trip today and then phoning on Wednesday to apply free dining or should I just wait until Wednesday and do the whole thing then

I would wait until Wednesday and then book online. I've had to modify our reservations before on the phone and it took forever. I bet the phone will be rather busy that morning as well. I remember DISers reporting being on hold for 30-60 minutes when the free dining was announced last time.
Good luck!:thumbsup2

I am also waiting until the code also comes out. Less chance of errors in my experience. Race you all to the phones! ;)

Ha, yeah, race you all to the phone. I will most likely call to be placed on hold while I am trying to book on line. It will be my own little race to see which wins.

When we went from the kids free promo to the memories with free dining pakcage my wait time was 2 hours before I got a cm. The changed happened quickly but I could of booked it online and not waited if I didn't already have a package.

What time does the phone line open? Is it earlier than online booking opens? In the past I've always done in via phone, but I don't know why. :confused3

Do you have to call and do the Dessie online? I've never booked on the phone before, have done it all online every time and just made sure that my dates matched the free dining dates, there was never a "code" to enter, it just automatically gave it to me...anybody have any clarification on this?

Ditto on this question.

Or maybe it doesn't matter as I'll be on the phone and trying online...but a claification would be nice

You can do it either way. In the past the FD wasn't instantly online so may people called. However I do believe the last time I booked it was online the morning it was released. Yes the easiest way is to book online. However if it's not there you will have to call in. Good Luck I hope this helped!!!

If I wanted to lock up a specific room category at a resort, would it be beneficial to book now, and have them add the code on Weds?

I would especially if its a few rooms! :goodvibes

It's not...only need one room. But don't want to be forced to upgrade to a room when I don't have to. Saves me $250.

Is it a pain to call in Weds and have them add code to existing reservation? I'd assume lines will be very busy.

Hmm...

book now - you only need to put a $200 deposit down, that assures you a spot at the resort you want to be at.

then add the code later after it's out.

worst case the code does not come out and you can move your dates back OR probably even get the deposit refunded.

Just to be clear, to get the free dining, you have to purchase a vacation package right?
You cannot just have room only reservations, correct?

Just want to be sure about this.. thanks!

Book online on wed. Who wants to spend extra time ammending a res when you can do it right the first time? Online is so easy too, never had a problem.

Just because you can book a room today at the resort ands category that you want does not mean the it will be available for free dining. In the past we had a reservation at POFQ, when free dining was announced I could not get a room there w/ free dining and had to change resorts. Just keep that in mind and know that you might not get your first choice resort.

I'm back and forth on this issue! On the one hand...it takes forever to book a new reservation and I need to make two (my parents are joining us for part of the trip), so making it now an then modifying it with a code would be much faster. On the other hand...if it's up on the computer before I can call (6am online vs. 7am on phone, if I'm understanding that right) then THAT way is faster...:confused3
