Book suggestions for DD14?

My son loved Life as We Knew It and The Dead and The Gone by Susan beth Pheffer. They were real page turners.

I recommend The Magicians Elephant by Kate DiCamillo. Such a great story. I read it in about an hour because I didn't want to put it down!

Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging and the whole series that goes along with it about Georgia Nicholson. There are 10 books in total and they are great! Hilarious!! Written by Louise Rennison.

Dd14 and her friends are all reading the Jodi Picoult books right now, "My Sister's Keeper", etc. and the Nicholas Sparks books (DD is just staring Dear John).

Wow, that kid's gonna be a reader once I get done with her ;) I have ALWAYS been a voracious reader, and was a little disappointed that she didn't turn out that way.

Oh, and as for reading in the car; that's how she did Harry Potter #7, and it didn't seem to affect her. I know it makes my DH sick to his stomach to read in the car.

Awesome suggestions, thank you so much!

I don't have any suggestions for you, OP, but your thread title brought back memories for me about one Christmas break when I was in high school.

My mom talked me into reading GONE WITH THE WIND. It apparently was one of her favorite books & she thought I'd like reading it.

Mistake. Big Big Mistake!! All I wanted to do that entire 2 weeks PLUS was read that huge book!! She had to almost pry it away from me so I'd work on my chores plus homework. That book did come in handy though, as my English class had a weekly vocabulary so quite a few words came from GWTW. I read & re-read that book so many times I thought the movie had been cut when it finally was shown on TV.

Several years before she died, I got that poor battered well loved book for Christmas.

Good luck making a choice. Maybe the storepersons at a bookstore can help.

Hiya :)

So our Heritage Tour trip with DD's class is two weeks away (can't wait!!) and it all starts with a 12-hour bus ride.

I'd like to get her a couple of books to take with her to try to read in between gabbing with her friends. She's NOT a big reader; she ate up the Twilight series, and has read Get Well Soon and went through that pretty quickly. She has tried Harry Potter and while she likes it, she doesn't seem to have the patience for it; though she did see all the movies and read the last book. We got her the Narnia books for Christmas last year and I don't even think they've been opened :guilty:

Can anyone suggest books that you think might be a good fit for her?

Thanks in advance!! :flower3:

Well, if it makes you feel better, I didn't give Narnia a chance either until I was twenty, and now it's one of my favorite series.

As far as the recommendations, I can't think of anything that would fit your DD's taste off the top of my head.

Try The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was a book first. :goodvibes

I got it for my DSD off of a recommendation. She looked at it like I was crazy. But one day she had run out of all of her books and hadn't gone to the library so she opened it up. She read the entire book straight through (she never slept). Absolutely loved it!

I was also going to suggest this!
