Book right away? Will waiting hurt?

we plan on going in September 2012, BUT a lot of that depends on how much flights are and if there are any promotions at that time. Since I am guessing our week in September will start selling flights soon (we are waiting on JetBlue or SW). By the end of January, both flights should have their prices out, BUT I am doubting Disney will have the promotion yet for September.

So I may hold out on flights until I find out if Disney is doing a promotion. In recent years, this was March or April. Will prices on flights go up drastically in those 2-3 months???

Am I better off booking my flight and just praying for a promotion? Since its September, a promotion is very likely....and no matter what it is, will save us some money.....

Decisions decisions...what would you do?

Sept flights probably are not going to sell out and more than likely will go on sale later on. One thing you can do with SW is book one of your flights either going to or from Orlando. Take the flight time that suits you and has a decent price and lock in that particular flight. Then wait until SW announces a sale and see if your original flight is cheaper. Rebook that flight and use the savings to book your other flight.

Good luck.

As soon as we make our minds up to the dates, we book...nothing to do with promotions....we either book with a AAA discount and only book room only....costs us one nights deposit and can cancel 5 days from arrival....

We travel by train so really don't care about promotions (hardly any, but 10% for AAA)...That all said, we figure as long as we got a reservation in Disney's system for the time and resort we want...we'll watch for any discounts or promotions coming out (we watch mousesavers.com) and just call CRO and have them applied....we figure we're going anyhow no matter what (free dining means nothing to us too) so it's good to be locked in.....and with Amtrak, the further out you book, the cheaper it is so no sense waiting till travel time to book....

I see nonstop flights with Delta from LGA - MCO for $199 and American from JFK for the same price inc taxes for Sep 12 -19th.

Unless there are huge conventions (with dates that match your vacation dates) at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, you should have plenty of airline availability in September, with decent, competitive airfares.

There's always a risk waiting. Fares could go up. But fares could go down too. And you'll have better idea of what Disney is offering and what else is going on in your life.

For myself under these circumstances, I would comfortable waiting until even until summer to finalize plans and book flights.

On the other hand, if you were asking about a week that corresponds to spring break or winter break in your area, I would advise booking as soon as you see even halfway decent airfares. The airlines now do a good job tracking historical demand, and they know that they can offer primarily higher-priced fare categories for such flights and still sell them out.

There's no replacing solid knowledge of past rates from your airport(s). We've been booking our own flights out of PHL, EWR, ABE and AVP since 1999. When we decide on a WDW date, I check rates and I know a good deal when I see it and I buy on the spot, I'll wait a bit if I've seen better for that date in the past. If you don't have this info, ask here to see what others have paid. Right now I'm waiting for Southwest to come out with Oct rates because what I'm seeing is more than I expect to pay. Good luck.
