Book now or wait for possible FD code?

Is it better to book the package now for the beginning of September and add the code when it comes out or is it better to wait until the actual code is available?

There's no guarantee that you'll be able to add FD on to a package you've already booked - it's not a matter of just adding a code. There are only a set number of rooms available for FD (or any other discount, for that matter), and already having a room booked doesn't save you one of those rooms. If you can only go with free dining, then you might as well wait.

Will you go even if you don't get Free Dining? If not, then I would not book and just wait. The more rooms that are booked, the less number of rooms they will likely make available for discounts. If you plan to go without Free Dining, or willing to go with just a room discount, then booking now will guarantee you are in the hotel of your choice.

Completely agree with siskaren, having a room doesn't mean you will be able to convert it to Free Dining or that there will be rooms for your resort and your dates.

Agree with both of the above. If your trip is dependent on FD, I'd wait to book as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied later.

I'll even go a step further and state that having a reservation in place does not even make it easier if/when a promotion becomes available. It is often easier just to grab a new reservation with the promotion. Many people end up doing just that and then canceling their old reservation. That works, but it is more work.
