Boo to me! - Solo Halloween PTR 10/22-29 - Link to TR posted!

I went to the oral surgeon today for my tooth. There was a brief consult and then I had it extracted. It hurt like hell, even though he numbed me up. Apparently, because of the infection, the lidocaine didn't take hold properly in the socket, which is why it hurt so much, but he made it quick, which I appreciated. A lot. I'm on vicodin for pain and my mom bought jello, pudding, applesauce, ice cream, and spaghetti-o's for me to eat.

The really funny thing, though, was that I was talking Disney with his assistant, and then he walked in and said, "I'm going next month." It turns out that he gets there with his family the day before I leave :rotfl:

Whoo hoo for Vicodin, jello, pudding, applesauce, ice cream & spaghetti o's!! At least now you know you won't be in pain for Disney! I hope you feel better soon!!

How funny that he will get there with his family before you leave!

:lmao: Exactly :) It's expensive, but at least it'll be done before I go. I have a follow-up next week, but that's about it. And the spaghetti-o's my mom bought were Disney Princess :lmao:

It really made me laugh when I found that out :) I'm curious as to where they're staying.

Feel better soon!

Thanks! :)

Glad you're back up and running. I'm home alone.:sad2: Not used to this. Just me and the kids....LAST!

Are we lasting?

Firefly - You told us that the tooth is gone....but how are your other teeth?

As far as I know, they're okay. He didn't examine them, he just did the extraction. I have to go back to the regular dentist to have my teeth examined, which I'm going to do before my trip. Dental work is just so expensive, you know?

 thanks for asking :)

It's expensive here too. Hope that the other teeth are all fine now and out of danger of infection.

I hope so, too. He cleaned out the infected tissue, so I think it'll be okay. But even if I go back and she says I need a root canal on another tooth, it'll have to wait until I get back. Too much going on at one time :lmao:

But this is why people whining about health care reform make me mad. Try being without insurance and seeing what the lack of it can do, then you'll understand why so many people support it. (general "you", not you specifically :flower3:) Dental issues aside, I also need a vision check and have had a persistent cough for two years. It started after my dental problems did, which sucked. It's not as bad as it used to be, but I always cough when I laugh. I'm going to make a doctor appointment after I get back, too. I need a physical anyway.

It was funny, though, the assistant yesterday and I were so focused on talking about Disney that when she took my blood pressure, I forgot to tell her to do it on my right arm. I had a birth control implant put into my left arm in April, so that arm's no good for blood pressure anymore :lmao: She was totally confused as to why the machine didn't work until I remembered about my Implanon. It made me laugh :) I liked the people at that office. They were really nice.

Glad you finally got your tooth out! I'm sorry it had to hurt so much, the same thing happened to me when I had my one of my wisdom teeth out...it was infected and broken so went to have it removed and they kept giving me novocaine, and I kept feeling it when the dentist would try to pull...eventually he got it out, but by then I had so much novocaine, the whole left side of my face was numb! I freaked out because usually novocaine wears off on me really quick, but this didn't wear off for a few hours, and I thought I was permanently going to be like that! It's funny now but at the time, I was really scared!

That's funny that the oral surgeon is going to Disney when you are!

Hope you feel ok today, not too much pain!

Oh, that must have been awful :( Thankfully, it didn't break when he pulled it, it's just that the lidocaine didn't take because of the damaged tissue. I know he gave me quite a bit of it, since I was slurring as his assistant and I talked about Disney :lmao: It took a few hours to wear off, but I also went to bed shortly after I got home, so I didn't feel anything until I woke up. It hasn't been hurting too bad, all told.

It's not hurting too bad now. I'm just really tired because of the vicodin. I got really hungry after taking it, though, so I made egg in a basket and then my parents woke up, so I made some for them, too. Not really healthy, but it tastes so good!

 :flower3:

This is EXPENSIVE in Oz!

For this reason, I'm really glad I live here. We have MediCare, which pretty much provides basic GP/hospital health cover for all Australians through the public system. It does not cover ancilliaries, of which dental is considered. Luckily, we have private health cover; through DH's work. But even if we didn't have it included in his benefits, I think we probably would dish out the extra cash for this. It covers all ancilliaries (dentist, Chiro, Massage, Prescription glasses etc) and these are the services that DH and I tend to use more than doctoring.

[Gonna hijack thread for a little bit] :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted in the chair at the same time. For all four wisdoms, I ended up having 20 injections.....5 on each side. The injections took 10 minutes to complete. I'm such a chicken when it comes to needles that applying the novocaine was more torturous for me than the extractions.
It took about 3 hours for the novocaine to wear off....I don't think I've ever drooled so much in my life! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (But then I don't remember being a baby).

My insurance will cover 100% after my co-pay, which is excellent. I'm not sure about the vision benefits, but I think it's 100% for the exam and up to $200 for frames. I don't remember the stipulation for contacts. :confused3

When I had my wisdoms removed, my dentist took forever to do it. She also takes forever to do ANYTHING. That was my old dentist, though. My current one really made a good impression on me when I went for my emergency appointment.

It was pretty annoying, this is why I'm not a big fan of my dentist, he just insists that he can do these things when most people get sent to an oral surgeon. I mean, to be fair, my tooth was already broken and it was so bad that there were like, just little pieces left sticking out of the gum and there wasn't anything to grip to pull, so I'm amazed he got it out in one piece! It was just annoying, and it took forever, everything he does takes forever, which makes me want a new dentist. And I always have a 30-45 minute wait before I'm even called into a room, then it will be another 10 minutes before he even comes in. :sad2: Obnoxious.

They gave me Vicodin after I had my root canal a few months ago, but I was too afraid to use it, so I just used Advil. Prescription pain killers make me nervous! I don't know why, but they do! :rotfl: I'm assuming they would just make me fall asleep! :rotfl:

OMG! That is a lot of novocaine! I asked my dentist once how much at one time was safe and he said up to 9 injections, but I guess not! I don't care about the needles, I'm weird, I hate getting shots in my arms or something (like a flu shot, which I should really get this weekend :rolleyes1) but novocaine needles don't really bother me! But give me a flu shot and I freak out!

Ugh, yeah, that's how my dentist is, everything takes forever, which is why I dread going there. It's too bad because I love my hygienist but my dentist annoys me! I really have to find a new one!

Well, I am glad you went and glad that it all seems to have gone OK!

Yay for Princess Spaghetti-O's and YAY for Doctors who go to Disney! My old OB/GYN was a DVC member! I can't remember her home resort, but I know she told me. It's so funny how you meet random people that you would never expect to be Disney freaks! I met a woman at a tag sale a couple weeks ago who noticed my Figment shirt and we started talking..turns out she is going the week before us! And what's even MORE funny is that from the time she walked up, I was like "I swear I know her from somewhere" and the longer I thought about it, the more positive I am that we met her once on a Disney bus. I'm not 100%...but pretty sure!

But this is why people whining about health care reform make me mad. Try being without insurance and seeing what the lack of it can do, then you'll understand why so many people support it.

You said it, sister! :thumbsup2 You would not believe how many old rednecks call my job on a daily basis and complain about the Health Care Reform. :sad2:

All of these people are mad at Obama saying he's not doing what he promised and yada yada, but he promised us Health Care and we're getting it! I think these old bats are still just mad that we have a black president so no matter what he does, he won't ever be good enough! But my sister, who has been without insurance since she was 18, gets to go back on my mom's insurance now! Only until May when she turns 26 but at least she can go for a physical, a well woman, a vision screening, and to see a dentist! People don't realize how expensive it is to pay OOP for even just an office visit. When you have insurance, the doctor can bill whatever he wants and most people just pay a copay like $10 or $20. If you have no insurance and the doctor wants to bill $200 for an office visit, then guess who gets to pay it!

Our Medicare is only for senior citizens or the disabled. There is MediCAID which is only available in certain states to regular joes, but if you make over a certain amount of money you don't qualify. :sad2:

I waited so long to have my wisdom teeth pulled that the two top ones were actually growing out sideways into my cheeks. It was basically down to "go and get them out now, or suffer with cuts and infections." I was TERRIFIED going in. I got on the table, he gave me laughing gas and general anesthesia. No Novacaine/Lidocaine. Suddenly, he is taking the laughing gas off and calling my name. I opened my eyes and I was like what's going on? He was like "you're all done!" I was like "Oh OK!" And got up off the table and started to walk out of the room. There were two nurses who lunged for me to hold my arms and help me walk and I was just kind of looking at them...they were like "do you need help walking to the car?" I was like "ummm...nope! I'm OK! Thanks!" I was perfectly fine! I went home and went outside and played volleyball with my cousin that afternoon! The doctor told my mom that I was the fastest wisdom tooth removal he did in his entire 25 year career! All but one just popped right out! The 4th was attached to my jawbone by a nerve so they had to just cut out what they could and leave a little piece. But they gave me a prescription for valium and oxycontin and I never took either!

So I'll just join in on the tangent happening in the moment...Fran and I are extremely lucky that we are not billionaires, but we have enough to live on. Because we are "self employed" we pay OOP for a health insurance policy. Every year it goes up and up, but it's still worth it.

We are part of a new "trendy" health movement, and believe me this is the only area in which we are "trendy"! :rotfl2: We have a primary care physician who is what they call a "conceirge doctor". We pay a flat fee annually (well we make quarterly credit card payments) and it includes an annual physical and ANYTHING else that we need. We can call her at any time of day or night, and she will actually answer her phone. I've called her at 2AM and she didn't pick up, but she called me right back when she came to consciousness.

She is a great person and in a doctorly way is also our friend. We have gone to concerts with her, she came to our wedding and she rocked the dance floor. If we have anything wrong, we can call her and she will call in prescriptions or meet with us, even on a Sunday (which she has done in the past.) One time about a week before her first knee surgery Fran had scratched her shin raw. We emailed the DR pictures of the wound, she called in a prescription to a 24 hour pharmacy. The surgery Dr. would have cancelled Fran's surgery but since she got on antibiotics the Sunday before surgery he was able to approve her.

She makes medical stuff so easy, it's insane. We need the insurance for the prescriptions and other specialists, but having Dr. J (as we call her) it makes medical stuff much more streamlined. We do pay OOP for dental as there really isn't insurance in the US that covers dental well.

Yeah, the vicodin has made me insanely drowsy, so I've been limiting how much of it I'm taking. I just took one, since my mouth is hurting, but I don't want to fall asleep at work :lmao: I use them very sparingly, though. This is the third time I've been on prescription painkillers. The first time was just Tylenol-3, the second was Darvocet, and now Vicodin.

Honestly, that's what I liked about my new dentist's office. I'm so used to waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting at my old dentist that when I was called not even a minute after finishing my paperwork at the new dentist (not the oral surgeon, the regular dentist), I was stunned :rotfl: I think you should find a new dentist, though. There's no reason to stay only because you like the hygienist :lmao:

Well, I am glad you went and glad that it all seems to have gone OK!

The only reason she bought the Princess spaghetti-o's was because the brand name was cheaper than the store brand for once :lmao: They were on sale 10 for $10. It always cracks me up when I meet random Disney fans :)

But yeah, the people who whine about "Obamacare" and stuff just make me mad. Yes, it's a change, but change is good. My mom was asking me if I was eligible to be back under their coverage, but I'm already 26. My sister might be, but I don't know, since she has a kid. Anyway, enough politics :lmao:

Medicaid has eligibility requirements as well, usually low income or pregnancy. My best friend was denied it, even though she is low income.

God, that sounds awful :( I'm glad you didn't have the kind of reaction to the anesthetic that a friend of mine did :lmao: When I was still working at Disney, a good friend of mine injured herself while working at Pizza Planet and required surgery on both wrists. Guess who got to drive her home after each surgery :lmao: But she wound up being allergic to the meds they gave her for post-op and we had to take her back to the hospital, which sucked.

So I'll just join in on the tangent happening in the moment...Fran and I are extremely lucky that we are not billionaires, but we have enough to live on. Because we are "self employed" we pay OOP for a health insurance policy. Every year it goes up and up, but it's still worth it.

Your doctor sounds awesome  I haven't seen my new doctor yet, but I'm going to make an appointment after I get back from WDW.

So, the other night when I was at work (I'm trying to stay off my parents' desktop, since it makes my dad mad at me for some reason :confused3), I was working on a top ten list of rides and then I somehow got logged out of the Dis and lost the post before it went up :confused3 So I'm going to redo it.

Also, just to give you guys a head's up, this week's Name That Semi-Obscure Character Game will be going up on Friday night instead of Saturday. I'm going to Six Flags with my family on Saturday and I'm not sure what time we're going or coming home, so I'll post the game on Friday instead. We're going because my brother's birthday is next month and I have my season pass, a free ticket, a half-price ticket, and we can get the kids' price for a fourth ticket, so the four of us can go for the price of one, basically :lmao:

So anyway, my list!

My Top Ten Rides at WDW!

10. Spaceship Earth!

Spaceship_Earth_at_Epcot.jpg

It's cheesy, but it's still nice. It's also a nice ride to sit and relax on.

9. The TTA!

3042741167_afe6a2cfe3.jpg

Again, cheesy, but it's really good to sit and relax on after lunch or if you just need a break.

8. Toy Story Midway Mania!

DS_TSM_fastpass_warneke.jpg

I'm not big into video games, but I did buy the Wii version of this game. It's not as much fun as the ride :lmao:

7. Great Movie Ride!

IMG_7902.JPG

I've loved movies since I was a kid, so this ride is just awesome for me.

6. Expedition Everest!

Expedition_Everest_at_Disneys_Animal_Kingdom.jpg

The backwards motion makes me queasy, but I love this ride. It's so beautifully themed, and so much fun.

5. Rock N Roller Coaster!

rock-n-rollercoaster-iphone.jpg

I love roller coasters, I love looping roller coasters, and I love rock music. So yeah, I love this one :teeth: It's too short, in my opinion, but it's fun :)

4. Tower of Terror!

draft_lens2352475module13243696photo_1231565226disneyworldtowerofterrorpicture.jpg

When I worked at Boardwalk, I'd finish my shift, take the boat over to DHS (then, MGM) and go on this and Rock N Roller Coaster again and again :lmao:

3. Jungle Cruise!

jungle-cruise-adventureland-magic-kingdom-walt-disney-world-761811.jpg

I love all the bad puns :lmao: I guess that's from being a former English major and a writer.

2. Pirates of the Caribbean!

mr_geo994909438260_R_Detail.jpg

It's a classic :) How can you not love this ride?

1. Haunted Mansion!

disney_world_haunted_mansion.jpg

I love this ride so much. I love the way it works, the way it's themed, everything. It's filled with cheesy puns and I just... I love it. It's awesome. My old manager took us on a tour of it after hours one night and I learned so much about it.

Love your top 10....you know, I don't think I've ever done the Great Movie Ride. Hopefully we can do it together.

I'll be watching you on ToT. I was in a lift that did it's own free fall for real for 5 or 6 floors and I think I might pass whilst you go on this one :)
