We had planned to camp again in Sept. this year... however, our 18 year old son has joined the Army (Active Duty, fire control specialist) and leaves for bookcamp that same time. We have decided to rent a beach house here in NC a few weeks before so we can spend some quality time just doing nothing but being together.

We are so proud of him... but as a mom, it is hard to let go. I just pray.

We will see Disney again..... at another time.

Tell your son that we all appreciate his service. We thank him for keeping us safe.
Disney will be there waiting when he returns.

thank you... I will tell him. Time goes by so fast.... seems like yesterday he was 5 years old and we were heading to WDW for the first time. ooh... here comes a tear.

Well that sounds like a awfully good reason to cancel Disney to me.
Tell him how thankful we are for such fine young folk like your son.

I hope that ya'll have the very best of a time together, :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Tell him we'll keep the home fires burning til he returns.

umm,,wait,,no, don't tell him that,,but we will send prayers for his well being til he returns, :thumbsup2

Enjoy your vacation and before you know it you'll be planning that Disney vacation for after his return. We'll be sending prayers his way.

Bootcamp is harder on us parents that the kids :) I went thru it 18 months ago. Be sure to go to Bootcamp grad, you will be so proud!

Thank you so much for your comments.... it really has been a huge thing for me to hear the kind words.

I know you will enjoy your quality time together. God bless your Son and thank him and you for keeping us safe.

Running_Bell: Last year our son joined the Air Force. So we decide to take one last trip as a family with our son just before he left to go. It's been almost a year since then. Let me tell you that you, will miss him more than I can tell you.

You will need help thru the time that he is in boot camp. As he will not get to call you right away. I think it was almost 3 weeks before my son was able to write us or call. It was the hardest time of my life, even tho I went thru this with his dad. It's not the same as seeing your baby leave.

I knew he wouldn't be able to call, but that didn't matter, because I was worried sick, as I knew what he was in for.

Boot Camp is really hard on them, but much harder on the parents. Make sure you take the time to see him graduate, it was well worth the long drive to Texas to see him for 3 days. I was so proud to see my Airman run his last run with his squadron, and recieve his airman coin.

If you can please write your son every day, start once he leaves on the plane. I started right away and my son told me it was what helped him get thru most of the time... As even tho he couldn't write me, he was able to read his mail and they all live for those letters from home. I did numbered the letters so he would know which letter I wrote first.

My son is planning to go to disney with us this year, as we plan to go back again in Dec. We are still trying to getting use to him being away every holiday.
You should look to see if there are any army boards for mothers, I know the air force has one , that is what help me thru the hard time.

I will say a pray for you as I know its going to be hard. As you will miss him, But when you get to see him again, he will be a man.... and even tho you are proud of him now, wait until you see him after boot camp...

Thank your son and you guys for the sacrifices you all will make to serve our country. I got teary eyed just reading. I hope you guys have a great time in NC and I know you will have a fabulous Disney vacation with your son later on.

Thank you Veraletta for that advice....

We absolutely will be attending the bootcamp graduation... both of them. He will have one from general bootcamp and then another from his POS. I still can't believe it sometimes.... reality hits at the most odd times and places.

Great idea about the message boards... I did find one for the Army moms. Thanks!
