Bonnie and Charley...Anyone worried yet

Well, DH got sent home at 3pm. It's almost time to get the kids from the bus stop....and that's it for the next 48hrs. Once we're all home we'll "batten down the hatches" and see how we fare. DH's family members are all in mandatory evacuation about 1 hr north of us so we may be getting some houseguests, don't know yet. That's OK, it'll be a hurricane party!

Most of the counties in the Orlando area are now under a tornado watch due to the rements of Bonnie. I thought I left that in Missouri!

Oh man! Here I am, waiting to try and get to Orlando tomorrow!! We land (hopefully) at 11:45 a.m. Hope we get enough of a window to be able to get in with no problem. Stay safe those of you in the path!!!

Orange (Orlando), Seminole, Osceola (Kissimmee), Lake, and Daytona county schools have been closed for tomorrow. Haven't heard from Hillsborough (Tampa) yet.

Actually, there is no Daytona County in FL....Volusia County, which is where Daytona Beach is, as of 4:45pm today had not announced a school closing. Only their community college was scheduled to close at noon.

Thanks, Bumbles, I must have just seen the scroll for Daytona CC and assumed it was the county as all the other scrolls were for school districts.

I am in Polk and so far we are only under High wind watches....I have been getting things tied down as best as possible. I will be riding it out...Pray for us please....Send some Pixie dust too

Our schools here in Polk county are going to be closed tomorrow when I picked up DS (6) they handed us a pink paper with all the information.
It is nice that the kids have the day off, but now that is a day that they will have to make up before Christmas holiday. Alot of our schools are designated shelters.

I am more worried about Tornados coming out of this hurricane than anything. That and the fact that my yard will probably turn into a lake.

So is it safe to assume there will be no mail delivery to the area tomorrow?

I had to work two extra hours yesterday and was supposed to have to work two extra today but my boss (and owner of the company) let us out two hours early instead and closed the business for tomorrow. Luckily, we're not in one of the flood zones and we live in a block house, but it's our first storm as Floridians and I'm a little worried.

I'm in the same town as Dax and PenskeSth1 and we've been preparing since yesterday. We've got water, canned goods, batteries, candles, all the cars are gassed up and we've boarded some of the windows up. And thankfully we live on pretty high ground so the chances of our house flooding are slim.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens and hope for the best.

Bradenton's gonna get hammered according to the news....stay safe!

So, I'm FORMER LI'er LIDosneyFan, now a resident of Tampa FL -and we're concerned, but ready. Sort of like our recent move here - looking at it like an adventure.

Stay safe everyone on the West Coast of FLA!

I'm in Connecticut. We have a condo on the barrier island of Anna Maria Island off the coast of Bradenton. We just had brand new carpeting put in last Monday. Bradenton is supposed to be hammered. We bought the condo 10 years ago. My husband said the West Coast Tampa Bay area rarely gets a direct hit. I guess this one is it. The condo is right across the street from the beach.

Anyone in the Bradenton area know if Anna Maria Island has been under mandatory evacuation? Also when they say tidal surge of 15 feet what exactly to they mean?

Any updates from Bradenton residents after the hurricane hits area would be apprectiated. My husband will probably have to drive down next week to check out any damage.

Thanks,

Anna Maria Island is under mandatory evacuation....It may be pretty hard to update because the storm will most likely knock out power. I think they mean that the tides will come in 15 feet farther than normal.

You're right...it looks like we're gonna get hammered. All the barrier islands have been evacuated. Expect extensive damage to that condo. If it's on groung level they say you will have several feet of water inside. Kiss that new carpet goodbye!
I hope you have storm shutter on!
