Bonnie and Charley...Anyone worried yet

Starting to get a "little" concerned, but, I have to go to work tomorrow and just so happens I work at Publix! So, no telling WHEN I will be getting out of there tomorrow or Friday! Don't know if we will be closing or not either, as we will be getting the right side of the storm.:o So, it begins..........

Hey Faith,

Save me some water and Peanut butter OK.
I'm also keeping my eye on Charley. I work in a hospital and have to be there during the storm then my DH gets to go in to work after.

I so hate this time of the year even though I've lived most of my life down here in S. FL. it doesn't get anybetter.

We're in Sarasota and DH is kind of concerned. We're not duct taping or plywooding but we've got supplies and we're going to remove any possible projectiles from the yard tomorrow. I think by tomorrow morning we'll have a much much better idea of what to expect.

Hey neighbor!
People are starting to get worried now. Schools will be closed Friday. And the hospital (SMH) started evacuating this afternoon. YIKES!!

So, is this hype or not?

This will be my first Hurricane since we moved to Florida last fall. I lived through Hurricane Bob in New England when I was just a little kid. I don't remember much.

We went to Walmart and made an emergency kit with canned goods, batteries, a radio, etc. Everything on the list. Walmart had a bunch of stuff set out, including big red plastic buckets to keep your supplies in. There wasn't a "D" battery to be found ANYWHERE in the store! Everyone was wandering the store checking out all the sections of batteries- in toys, camping, electronics. No "D" batteries. We bought the last two packs at Publix. AND, this was all before people got out of work this afternoon!

I want school to be cancelled. I work in schools and I used to LOVE the "snow days" up in NH. Now, I'd love to see a "hurricane day!" and curl up with a book on Friday. Wishful thinking because Charlie isn't supposed to get here until later on Friday.

Hunker down, everyone! I hope this is more hype than danger!

I live a couple of miles north of Fla. We are supposed to get a lot of rain and thunder storms. Our band practice was rained out yesterday, we marched in the rain until the lightning detector went off and we headed in the gym for the rest of the time!
I'm supposed to be going to Panama City Friday afternoon for the weekend with our youth group. We havent made a decision yet if we are going or not, I really hope so!! We all look forward to this trip for Months!!
I hope everyone stays safe!!

Is this a fact? Or do you just think so? I'm pretty sure this will be the case but haven't heard anything yet.

How old are your kids?

I'm not worried. I've seen a few hurricanes in my years as a Florida native. If it becomes a category 3 (or higher) hurricane and is heading right at me I may change my mind. But it's always a good idea to be prepared with lots of drinking water, canned food, candles, etc.. I have all the stuff I need already. One thing I would recommend to people who have their own wells and pumps, and they do not have a generator, is to fill up some 5 gallon buckets (or your bathtub, garbage can, whatever) with water. At least you will still be able to flush your toilets if there isn't power to work your pump.

The school where I work has not made an announcement yet about possibly closing Friday. We are going in tomorrow and after the school board meets they will let us and parents know.

About two years ago we had a hurricane day off. Turned out to be a sunny, pretty day. We were lucky. But we had to make the day up at the end of the school year. There is no provision made for days off like up north due to weather.

I remember as a kid in New York how we looked foward to snow days. Hurricane days are a different beast altogether. Give me a snow day anyday.

Where do you live Disneygirl? We had a hurricane day (and it was exactly 2 years ago) which turned out to be a beautiful day too. If you're in Sarasota, what school do you work at?

I was real nervous earlier. We have been putting off getting renters insurance for almost 2 years now. Well we called today and said we had to be in by 5:00 because they will be in a lock down for new insurance until after the storms go through. Luckily we got there. I also went to Wal-Mart and grabbed some flashlights and water. There were a few people that were getting gallons of water but it didn't look like to many people were concerned. I was trying to talk DH into driving to Georgia for the weekend but he wouldn't buy it. Now after I have done some reading and looking at maps in such, I think we may get lots of rain and wind but that should be it......I hope.

I guess they will officially decide/announce this after an 8 am meeting, but I talked to someone who works for the schoolboard who said it had already been decided. Not sure if she was right or not though. I'm kinda leaning towards that too since I think we're gonna get some decent flooding at the least since we're already so saturated.

My kids are 11 (6th grade), 8 (3rd), & 5 (kindergarten). How 'bout yours?

Well, haven't heard any announcements yet! But, I'm thinking it's a given that schools will be closed. My kids are 11(6th) and 8(3rd). We go to SSAS and Bay Haven, how about you?

Are you worried about this thing? I just can't work up too much worry about it since they always pass us by but my husband keeps saying "we're due" and he's a little worried. We've got plenty of food and I'll remove projectiles from the yard but that's all I intend to do. How about you?

I just saw on TV that most of the schools in the greater Orlando area will be closed tomorrow. It looks like landfall will be around Tampa. It will be a category 2 or minimal categor 3.

I just returned from shopping at Downtown Disney. They were picking up all of the big potted plants and taking them away. Kind of creepy!

Orange (Orlando), Seminole, Osceola (Kissimmee), Lake, and Daytona county schools have been closed for tomorrow. Haven't heard from Hillsborough (Tampa) yet. Charley should hit Orlando a little after 11:00 PM Friday evening. So far, no park closings as both my sons are scheduled to work Friday and Saturday at Universal.

Tampa and Ocala are supposed to be in the eye. Orlando will be on the outer edge of the eye. There is a possibility of a cold front pushing it further west and missing Orlando.

If this storm comes ashore where they think it will Orlando could experience a ton of rain and hurricane force winds. If I lived near Tampa or Sarasota I'd be evacuating.

Here in Orlando, we'll be bringing in all the outdoor furniture and making sure we have candles, water and some food we can eat if we lose power.

Remember, the right upper quadrant of a hurricane is the section that generally spawns the most tornados. If it follows the current track, Central Florida will be in the path of the right front quadrant.

Let's all hope that this thing loses some steam....

All central florida schools are now closed for tomorrow so the local authorities aren't messing around....

My county and the surrounding counties are under a mandatory evacuation order. So, now I am getting just a little bit antsy. There's so much to do at work to prepare for the storm, I can't get too crazed yet.

We are closing all of our west coast offices and sed=nding everybody home ny 2 p.m today. We won't be making any deliveries anywhere in the state tomorrow. I'm in the main office in Orlando and we will decide by mid afternoon on what we do here for tomorrow.

Time to get a little more serious about Charlie..........

Well, all our schools are closed tomorrow and our barrier islands(Siesta Key and Longboat Key) are under mandatory evacuation. The county offices are shutting down at 2pm today.

We're fortunate that our home is inland....as a matter of fact, we're on higher ground than the shelter people come over to which is just a block from us. We'll just hunker down and see what happens.

I'm not thinking we'll have much of a problem but we're prepared in case. We didn't board or tape windows thought, DH says they'll only break if something becomes a projectile and we're planning to close the curtains/blinds to prevent glass spraying if it does happen but I think it's unlikely(hope Im right!)

Nothing much going on here in North Dade area, but, I believe the Lower Keys have some closings.:o I just got off work, and the water is going at my store, but another truck just came in before I left.:p I bought 3 gallons, 2 packs of Tuna Fish (they are buy one get one free), and M&M's---must have CANDY during a storm, even if its NOT a bad one!::yes:: :teeth: Also, some lunceon meat and bread, thats about it. STAY SAFE everyone!:wave2:
