Bombshell Obama Pastor Video

Yes seriously, I really think that people are human beings. Just cause you are a grandmom doesn't mean you never say a cross word. My grandmother, although not a perfect woman, was wonderful, however, I heard her use racial slurs on occasion, but I chalk that up to the time and place in which she grew up in. I really don't believe Obama was hurting his family, but saying that we are all humans and even sometimes the ones we love may say things in which we don't believe. My grandparents passed away long ago, but I love and respect them, even their bad sides. I mean how hypocritical would we all be if we acted as if we have never said an inappropriate remark ourselves? If I were giving a speech and included that part about my grandmom, I would have done so in the hope that others could relate to my experience. I think the g-mom thing is blown out of proportion.

I understand that your grandparents have passed, but you are saying that if they were alive you would use them to make an example even if it was hurtful to them?

I understand that no one is perfect -neither is every family perfect. He could have made that point without calling his grandmother out specifically.

I will agree to disagree on this point. I do not see how he used her. He only said she had expressed her fears about black men who passed her on the street, to me that seems like a fear that may have been prevalent in past generations because of the race problems in our nation at that time. I don't see that in revealing that he is using her or harming her, he is merely relating a story. Also he said he heard her use language that may be construed as racist, again, he didn't quote her exactly, so I don't see how he's using her good name to advance his career. I do see being loyal to your family and not using people as important things in life, but I will agree to disagree with you and just say we see it from two different angles.:flower3:

My grandmother called black people the "n" word. I hated that, but I didn't hate her.

She also rather famously told people that the sun shone through holes in the sky at night and the Virgin Mary was a young girl who got in trouble and came up with a good story. :rotfl:

Loved her dearly, but oh my......

If that's all your grandmother said you were lucky... I cared for my FIL up until he died in December, and even prior to that he said far worse things while laughing them off. It was NOT funny... However I did not care for him less... My biological grandfather who I loved and helped more than anything in this world was not so pure as to not say some of these things either... From my experiences my children will be better people.

I believe this was Obama's message. And I'm very glad for all those people who never heard or saw these types of behavior, and cannot relate such family experiences, but there are many of us who have seen it and not been able to make an impact.

And for perspective, my DH did not get into his first choice public school even though he scored highly on the exam, due to affirmative action in the city... yet he understands what Obama is saying, and quite remarkably agrees with him, and he is no liberal as liberal is known. As a result he went to Catholic school where he knows, and the city knows "things" were going on with some of his classmates.

And if we don't understand our history, we will repeat it.

Exactly who do you see "thriving" on the anger? If it would not get pulled, I would be more than happy to post screen names of posters who regularly deny the history that led to angry rhetoric.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright. If you think the way to understand our history is to preach hate and division, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. Wright isn't just speaking to people who experienced what he did, but he's speaking to younger people and passing these feelings of resentment to be carried on by future generations. I can't help but wonder if this is the norm of black churches. I don't want to see a black person and find myself wondering if they view me in such a negative light based on the color of my skin and assumptions they might make about my ancestory. If people start to feel that way, then they will just avoid people who are different.

Obama didn't want to have to give this speech. He wanted to keep race out of the campaign. He is not being sincere that he is using this opportunity to discuss race. He was forced into the conversation in order to do damage control. It was an eloquent and persuasive speech, but devoid of credibility for me based on the fact that he initially lied about being aware of the controversial statements made by Wright. He should have taken this approach from the very beginning when confronted and was giving all those interviews.

And it's so nice to see how many are concerned for Obama's grandma. :lmao:

Well your last post sounded very negative to me about our country (failing economy, war success illusion, etc.) and you talk about our country's "deep problems". It sounded to me like the sky was falling in. I have heard extreme liberals take the position that our country needs to be "fixed" immediately. That was the vibe that I picked up from your post.

In reality though, there is no such thing as a utopian society. A country will always have problems no matter how well-managed. So how do we know if our government is succeeding? Compare it to other countries. Yes, our economy goes through a recession every ten years or so and appears to be heading for one now but it still is one of the most prosperous in the world. We have the best medical care in the world. We have the best sanitary conditions in the world. No one here is starving to death. We have freedom of speech and a democratic process. It is illegal to discriminate based on race, religion or sex. Every day I am grateful that I was born in this country. I am grateful that no matter who gets into office, be it Obama, Clinton or McCain, there will be an orderly transition of power and America will continue to thrive.

Then look at third world countries, where people are starving to death, civil war is raging, kids die from unsanitary conditions, dictators are thriving, etc. In some countries women have no rights and genocide is taking place. Those countries have what I call "deep problems".

Do we always need to strive for a better America? Of course. But does America need to be "fixed"? IMO no, just improved upon.

So negative to you means admitting this country has problems that need to be fixed? :confused3

Yes, this country has problems that need to be fixed. Not improved, fixed. If you don't feel that way, vote for McCain because you'll get more of what you have now. If you're happy with that, I'm hysterical.

I'm more concerned Obama has proven he is more than willing to lie when politically advantageous! Yes he can! :thumbsup2

Whoa, that's a new arrangement in politics.

And specifically, what did he lie about? That he admitted hearing some offensive things from Wright? Do you know what things he was talking about or are you just jumping to the talking point conclusions that he has to be lying about not hearing the "GD America" speech?

So specifically, what did he lie about?

And, please, the Planet Bush concern for grandma really is touching. :lmao:

Seriously? Well luckily for me - my Nana never spoke a mean word to or about anyone in her life. However, if she had and I broad-casted that throughout the world - I cannot begin to imagine how betrayed and hurt she would feel that I used her to promote myself and my image. Would you do that to YOUR grandparents?

If I even dared to Broadcast what my Nana was really like too the world....I could never sleep again....SHE WOULD SOOOOOOOOOO come and HAUNT ME!!!!!!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

:rotfl2:

Planet Bush certainly loves their Mee-maws, Grannies, and Grandmas. Oh, and they really, really love their Koolaid. Probably because Mee-maw used to make it for them...:rotfl2:

I know this was brought up earlier as a question, Tom Daschle was just on MSNBC and said today's speech was written entirely by Obama against the wishes of his top talking heads, it was that important to him to tell what is his story....

Now, those of you who like to argue go to town...

I do not live on Planet Bush. True blue life-long liberal here. And I do not know if it is so much my concern for his grandmother as it is knowing how hurt either of my grandmothers would be if that happened to them. It is called sympathy.

As for the lie - I believe I heard Obama say (with my own ears) that he had never heard those things in person and that here was only one thing he heard about recently. That is not what he said in today's speech.

Friday night Obama said that, UNTIL he was running for President he NEVER heard Wright say a discouraging word about this country.

Most people knew Obama was lying then. The odds that the videos were "once in a lifetime sentiments" over a 20 year span were not high.

Today he said "Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely ..."

So yes Obama lied.

Yep that is what I heard too, were you guys too busy mixing your Kool-Aid to listen in or has you Obama obsession rendered you hearing impared?

So what exactly did Wright say that you claim Obama is lying about not hearing?

No odds, specifics.

It appears that the fact that he lied (and may do so whenever politically expedient and without recourse) fails to register to many of his followers. :sad2:
