As for the lie - I believe I heard Obama say (with my own ears) that he had never heard those things in person and that here was only one thing he heard about recently. That is not what he said in today's speech.
It appears that the fact that he lied (and may do so whenever politically expedient and without recourse) fails to register to many of his followers.![]()
So what exactly did Wright say that you claim Obama is lying about not hearing?
Talk about grasping at straws!![]()

I'm ask you the same question I asked the gentleman with the green hair:
You would like it to be the "GD America" speech, but the fact is you have no idea.
Talk about grasping at straws!![]()
I think DISUNC already answered this question.
The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign.

(you can trace it back to the orginal piece on the Huffington Post)
If he did, I wouldn't have asked him the question.
So why don't you give it a whirl? You must know something specific or you wouldn't have said what you did? Right?
You know what? I am insulted by this and the other statements like this! How do you know that I do not feel bad for his grandmother? And I have a huge problem with anybody that is willing to make another feel bad for their own benefit.
Is it possible for you (all) to quit with the snarky smile icons and not be rude while trying to make your argument?

I keep my smilie use to a minimum and use it only when warranted. The ridiculous attempt to spin his speech into one that all some people get out of it is an imagined insult to his grandmother deserves all the smilies it gets, imho.
Reverend Jeremiah Wright. If you think the way to understand our history is to preach hate and division, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. Wright isn't just speaking to people who experienced what he did, but he's speaking to younger people and passing these feelings of resentment to be carried on by future generations. I can't help but wonder if this is the norm of black churches. I don't want to see a black person and find myself wondering if they view me in such a negative light based on the color of my skin and assumptions they might make about my ancestory. If people start to feel that way, then they will just avoid people who are different.
Obama didn't want to have to give this speech. He wanted to keep race out of the campaign. He is not being sincere that he is using this opportunity to discuss race. He was forced into the conversation in order to do damage control. It was an eloquent and persuasive speech, but devoid of credibility for me based on the fact that he initially lied about being aware of the controversial statements made by Wright. He should have taken this approach from the very beginning when confronted and was giving all those interviews.
) It was nothing but joy, good tidings and love of God did I ever hear there. I do not believe that Rev Wright is a 'typical' black minister.
I cannot give specifics because Obama - being the politician that he is - did not define exactly what statements he had never heard and which was the statement he had only heard about. He definitely gave himself some wiggle room there. You are right.
Are you a politician as well?
It's an old strategy of attempting to put us on the defensive because Obama has been forced to defend himself. Clever technique, but easy to ignore.![]()

Really? Is that how you see it? He didn't have to do anything, as the firestorm a lot of you Cons have prayed for has not occured. He wrote the speech and decided to give it against his advisor's advice. Hardly something that had to be done from any strategic standpoint. Again, just wishful thinking from his opponents.

I never said that was all I got out of his speech, but that did strike a particular chord in me because I would not consider it an "imagined" insult if it was my own grandmother. Maybe it is the way I was raised.
Finally, something we agree on. You have no specifics only wishing and hoping.

OLBERMANN: There's an awful lot of strong material that is now on videotape. We have played it. I see no reason to play it again, but a phrase that suggests that "God damn America" is a better phrase to use than "God bless America." Can you characterize your own reactions to this? Did you know that he made these statements before the videotape appeared?
OBAMA: You know, frankly, I didn't. I wasn't in church during the time when the statements were made. Now, I think it's, Keith, important to point out that he's been preaching for 30 years. He is a man who was a former Marine who served this country, a biblical scholar, somebody who's spoken at theological schools all across the country, and is widely regarded as a preacher. That's the man I know. That's the person who was the pastor of this church.
I did not hear such incendiary language myself, personally, either in conversations with him or when I was in the pew. He always preached the social gospel and was sometimes controversial in the same way that many people who'd speak out on social issues are controversial.

I have already condemned, in unequivocal terms, the statements of Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy. For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely just as Im sure many of you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.
Here is what he said Friday on Countdown:
This is what was said today in his speech:
Spin that.
