Loved the Dinner.....Loved the Breakfast more!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Exactly!! Boma is wonderful. I rave about it all the time. It is my favorite restaurant. Everything about it is great. Dont change your reservations. Try it. :thumbsup2

We've only been for breakfast and have loved it both times!

I've been 6 times over the past few years and it never fails to disappoint us for dinner! Amazing selections every time, great service, we've never had to wait for our ADR (we do typically try for an early time though), and I love the lively atmosphere. If I'm looking for quiet I'm going to Jiko, but if I'm looking for fun it's Boma! It's my families favorite place to eat on planet Earth!

And here's a tip - if you're a fan of the Frunch served at breakfast ask for it at dinner! :thumbsup2

My family simply hated the dinner. We tried lots of stuff, but didn't really like anything. The desserts looked wonderful, but were just OK. We absolutely love their breakfast. We're staying at AKL on our next trip and are really looking forward to breakfast at Boma.

Honestly, we didn't love it. For breakfast it was good, for dinner it was okay. The food seemed bland and unexciting, I can go down the street at home at get better tasting and spiced food. Overall, DH and I decided it is great if you don't have many ethnic restaraunts near you, if you have ever been to the Indian, Middle East, Africa area you are less likely to be impressed though.

Although if Chef TJ makes you a special meal, now that is amazing :thumbsup2 .

We would go back for breakfast though it is a ton more food then we normally eat, but if we are going to dinner at AKL we're heading back to Jiko which was just amazing and wonderful especially when compared to the bland selections we found at Boma.

See, I don't think you can generalize like that. We have lots of ethnic restaurants where I live. Now, I have never visited those parts of the world, so you may be right there (I do have family who are Indian and they've made some wonderful ethnic dishes that are much better than any Indian restaurant's offerings). I wasn't expecting Boma to be like my local Ethiopian, Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants, and it wasn't. But I also wasn't expecting an American-style meat-and-potatoes kind of buffet, and it wasn't that either. It's in-between, just "Boma" by itself. I'm sure Jiko is nicer (being a signature restaurant and all that), but as a vegetarian I appreciate the wider variety of food choices at Boma. For me, it lends itself to repeat visits whereas at Jiko I have only one entree choice.

I think if someone's not sure if they're going to like any restaurant, they won't know until they go and actually eat the food. Nobody can predict how someone else's tastebuds will react.

Love it. Love it. Love it.

We've eaten there every trip since AKL opened. Sometimes more than once per trip. I love it, my wife loves it, my 2 kids now love it (DD4, DS2). For breakfast OR for dinner. We (my wife and I) feel it's the best buffet on property, by far. Actually, we pretty much feel it's the best buffet we've eaten at, period.

We've enjoyed everything on the buffet. The soups are wonderful. The sheer variety (we don't think everything tastes remotely "the same) of different tastes, textures, and combinations is just awesome. The prime rib is excellent and the zebra domes are very, very good.

And the the person who said they supposed that people who liked it don't have much exposure to other ethnic foods....you'd be wrong. At least in our case. I think you're making MUCH too broad of a generalization on that assumption....

To the OP: I will, however, say that no matter how many people give it the thumbs up, it's all going to come down to your palette. I hear far more praise than not about Boma's. But those that don't like it tend to REALLY not like it. And those that like it tend to REALLY like it. It seems to be a polarizing experience in many cases.

Hated it.
DH didn't hate it but didn't love it either.
We are pretty adventurous eaters, and believe me I think I tried almost everything on that dinner buffet and found nothing that I liked. We were disappointed because it had been highly recommended to us.
And to top things off, when it finally was dessert-time, I discovered that virtually every dessert I would have liked to try had alcohol in it and I was just finishing my 1st trimester of pregnancy. I ended up with a chocolate chip cookie which wasn't too impressive! :confused3

See DH is veggie, or atleast all but fish due to alergies, and he couldn't find anything he liked other then that potatoes (which we make better at home), the corn, salad and rice. *Shrug* it really is up to each person if they like it true, but we found it extremely lacking in flavor and taste, though as I said a lot of it is probably because we have both been to those areas of the world and eat a ton of food from those areas of the world both at home and in restaraunts.

We found it really too American style for our taste, we weren't expecting extreme ethnic either, but we also weren't expecting American with a couple extra bland spices thrown in, and that is more of less what it felt like we got.
