Boma or Ragland Road

Now folks, I know these are two totally different types of food.

I am trying to find a place for a friend to join us for dinner while in Disney. We need something that doesnt involve parks, since he won't have a ticket.

I originally made an ADR for Ragland Road becuase we are staying at OKW and we could just take the boat over to DTD.

However, my brother said that of their trips to Disney that Boma was his favorite, so now I'm rethinking my choice. They do have an ADR open for our party size at Boma, so it is doable.

What would you pick from those 2 places?

Bumping this for you. I'm trying to decide between these 2 for our arrival night as well. I read about the meats at Boma being sweetened & I'm not sure we'd like that.

I haven't eaten at Boma, but on our recent trip to WDW, Raglan Road was probably the best meal we had the entire time. The food was so good, the deserts were incredible (especially the bread & butter pudding), they had a log of variety on the kids menu (if you are needing that). I could go on about the place, but now I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Raglan Road was great but it's a rowdy place with a great band....typical Irish pub. You'd have a hard time talking over the music if that's the plan. Boma is good also and best if you are in the mood to eat. I guess it depends if you are wanting to go and enjoy food with live entertainment or a more relaxing quiet buffet with tons of food.

I agree with Pookie that if you are looking to talk to your friend RR is not the place. The acoustics in there are pretty awful and the music is usually way too loud. When the entertainment is on it can get quite difficult to hear.

Boma is one of the few dinner buffets that still serves edible food. It can get loud in there too, plus you have the chaos that is a Disney dinner buffet.

I guess what it comes down to more is what you plan to do after dinner. My initial reaction is to suggest Boma so you can check out AKL and some of the things they have to offer or just get a drink and relax in a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

We've never eaten at Raglan Road, but Boma is one of our favorites .

When are you going? We're actually going to both places next month so I can give you a "report" then, but if you're going sooner, then it would be pointless. That said, we did do the Boma breakfast buffet a couple of years ago when we stayed at the AKL and that buffet (not to mention the resort itself) was AMAZING. Worth it just for the atmosphere. We're trying Raglan this year because we've never tried it before and we thought it would be fun. I've seen pictures of the food and it looks amazing!

We're not going to December so I've hgot plenty of time for a report, lol.

I think my problem is that I have no idea what we may do that evening. It's our arrival day, so we may be too tired for DTD. But I think I'd love to see the Christmas deco at AKL & walk around the resort, maybe see some animals. But, it may be the only free time we have to go to DTD as well.

I've eaten at both, and agree with the previous posters--two totally different atmospheres. Enjoyed both at different times. Raglan is fun and loud, where Boma is dark and soothing.

But one observation that nobody has yet made. I may get slammed for it, but here goes...I found the food to be excellent at both places, but for around the same price, you will get MUCH more food at Boma. I had the don't-call-it-stew at Raglan and it was fantastic, but if I had been really hungry, it wouldn't have been enough food. Add a salad and a drink, and you're up to the price of the Boma buffet.

Not that one should always choose quantity over quality, but I think it's worth noting. Some guys (and hey, some of us girls) like a larger portion sometimes.

And as I said, the food and atmposphere are great at both. Either one is a great choice, just depending on what you're looking for that day.

Oh my gosh you picked my 2 favorite restaurants! Boma has been our #1 favorite for several years. Our first meal during any Disney vacation is always at Boma. I am really into ethnic food and everything there is tasty. That being said, we tried RR for the first time this year and LOVED it. We had a fantastic waiter. I honestly would be happy at either, but if I had to choose I would give Boma the edge for the atmosphere. It's loud, just like RR, because it is a buffet but where else can you eat in an African restaurant? Don't get me wrong, RR is really nice but it is just like an upscale pub/tavern that you can find anywhere around where we live in NJ. If you go to RR you absolutely must try the bread pudding. It is to DIE for!

We ate at both our last trip and while we enjoyed both I woudl defintiely say we like Raglan Road better.

Some of the food seemed hit-or-miss at Boma - it was nice to be able to try lots of different things though.

Raglan Road was one of our favorite meals with the Pate appetizer being one of the best things we had all trip. Plus the dipping sauce with the guiness reduction they serve with the bread is really good too.

We were actaully seated in a back room that was farily quite (no loud music) so you might want to request that if you are concerned about being able to talk

Ragland Road, that is the only place we eat at twice when we visit Orlando.

We've eaten at both and really like both. I guess I would give the edge to Boma though. Their soups are fantastic, and it is rare to find something not to my liking there. The fact that beverages and dessert are included at Boma makes both restaurants about the same price too.

I just asked my husband and kids and they all voted Boma. They are pretty adventurous and like to try new things. At least at Boma if you don't like what you are eating you can always get something else.

These are two of our favorites, too, and yes...it's like comparing apples and oranges. I don't think you can go wrong with either!

Maybe consider what type of food you want. Raglan Road has two restaurants (the other one in Kansas City near where we lived) and we really enjoyed both KC and DTD locations. However, knowing that we could get to similar food/atmosphere any time we wanted might have made a difference IF you want to try something new.

Not sure that made sense...let me try again! RR is totally fun--dancers, music, good food, wait staff was great BUT you might live near something very similar. Boma is probably a very different experience where you can try some different unusual foods you might not ever get the chance to try.

As a bonus, AKL is a beautiful place and you can see the animals.

These are two very different experiences, with one being a table service meal in a pub-type atmosphere and the other being a buffet in a heavily themed resort. I'd give the edge to Boma simply because of the location and the ability to wander around AKL to see everything there.

I would pick Boma. Nice variety. Wonderful smells....We didn't have such a great time at Raglan Road..
